INTRODUCTION During the period of time between 1475 and 1525, Italy was experiencing a rebirth in the arts, characterized by the amount of pieces commissioned from then famous as well as aspiring artists. Some of these artists include Leonardo da Vinci (1452–1519), Michelangelo (1475–1564), and Raphael (1483–1520). These artists have now become famous for their usually detailed and story-telling work. During the 15th century, artists responsible for the creation of the monuments, like the Sistine chapel, the Mona Lisa and other icons, were considered to be craftsmen. They treated art like a technical progress and less so as the creative endeavor we see it as today. During the turn of the 16th century however, during the height of the High Renaissance, was when artists received recognition for their styles, abilities and technical prowess. During this era, the stage is set for an artist who accomplished some of the most spectacular works to make a debut: Michelangelo. Many of his pieces have become iconic to the term “Renaissance” and have caused both praiseful discussions and frivolous disputes. The art produced by these talented individuals is synonymous with “Renaissance” pieces, as many of them were created during the High Renaissance time. Many of these pieces depicted different degrees of humanity, including religious texts, historic scenes, legends and the human body. Creations dating from this time often have gracious figures, graceful depictions of the artists’
Madam CJ Walker and Oprah Winfrey didn 't let where they came from or how they grew up determine their future. They both wanted to be somebody in life. They didn 't wait for opportunities to come they tried their hardest for opportunities to come to them. They made their dream a reality.
The Renaissance period is known for the revival of the classical art and intellect born in ancient Greece and Rome. The Renaissance is also a time that is marked by growth, exploration, and rebirth. The Italian Renaissance started in Florence and progressively made its way into Venice and then into the great city of Rome. During the Renaissance, Rome was home to some of the most renowned works of art and the finest architectural masterpieces in the world - too many that still holds true today. Along with the delicate architecture and grand artistry, Rome was also home to a mixture of people and cultures. It is in this cultural context and through the book A Street Life in Renaissance Rome: A Brief History with Documents, that understanding how men, woman, and specifically Jews and Christians lived in Rome becomes important to better understand this period of renewal.
The Italian Renaissance was an explosion of the arts in Italy, not only in painting and architecture, but in sculpture as well. Over the span of about eighty years, sculpture became transcendent during this time. Sculpture style has evolved over the course of many years from something that was not just considered philosophical or just simply aesthetic, but to something that involves and combines both. One artist that started this shift was Michelangelo. Michelangelo created breathtaking statues, and because of his innovative thinking and style, he paved the way for other extraordinary and visionary artists like Bandinelli and
Born at Caprese - a village and comune in the province of Arezzo - on March 6, 1475 was the Italian High Renaissance sculptor, painter, architect, and poet Michelangelo di Lionardo Buonarroti Simoni whose artistic influence is still present in today’s Modern art. Michelangelo through all his life thought of himself as a sculptor rather than a painter, even once writing, “painting seems to me more to be held good the more it approaches relief, and relief to be held bad the more it approaches painting: and therefore I used to think that sculpture was the lantern of painting, and that between the one and the other was that difference which there is between the sun and the moon.”
From the 14th century to the 17th century the Renaissance took place and was consider the cultural bridge that connect the middle ages to modern history. During this time many spectacular things took place. Artwork was created that looked as though it were from the heavens. Sculptures were generated that looked as an angel had sculpted the masterpiece. The architecture that took place looked as though it were created from the 19th century. Many architects, artist, and sculptures were present during the Renaissance, but there was one person that stood out the most. He all of the abilities that three men combined did not have and his name was Michelangelo di Lodovico Buonarroti Simoni. Michelangelo has many painting that our still around today,
Renaissance was the time during the fourteenth and sixteenth century where different changes to culture appeared in like art and literature, this was called rebirth. Churches would often sponsor artist lots of money to make art in the name of God. One artist was Michelangelo, who made the statue of the naked body of David which celebrated the human body. It was praised for its realism and the attention to details as well as with the Sistine chapel, where he had laid on his back on planks of hardwood where paint would drip on his face in order to finish the piece of art. Leonardo Da Vinci was an artist, scholar, scientist, and Innovator and he was referred to as the ideal Greek, well rounded man.
The Italian Renaissance was a wonderful time of growth and rebirth throughout Italy from the 14th to the 16th century. Many famous and talented artists were at their peak during this time, including painters such as Michelangelo and Donatello. Few though earned the title of “Renaissance Man”, meaning a person with many talents or areas of knowledge. One of these few is Leonardo da Vinci, famous for his beautiful paintings, amazing sketches, and fascinating studies.
The Renaissance was a time of “rebirth” and a transition from the medieval time to the Early Modern World. It emphasized human beings, their achievements, interests, and capabilities. This time period was a “gateway” to the modern world and was essential for the improvement of human life. At the time there were two main Renaissances, the Northern, and the Italian.
Like previously mentioned in the class, I have an intense interest for Italian art since I have been in contact with it since birth. Because of this I would like to explore the High Renaissance since I feel experienced and comfortable with this art period. The High Renaissance, or the Italian Renaissance, lasted from 1330 to 1550 with Florence, Italy being the birthplace of it all. In the following essay I would like to discuss Neo-Platonists, which was the dominant philosophy so-to-speak at the time. Secondly, I will talk about the Medici family and their influence during this period. Lastly, I will discuss various Renaissance men such as Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and Raphael because they were the people who shaped and defined the period.
In the late 14th century to the 16th century, the Italian Renaissance was taking place and moving from the Middle Ages at a time when the Catholic Church was indomitable to a period called The Renaissance. After this “rebirth” in Italy began, it started spreading to other countries to then produce a French Renaissance, an English Renaissance, and so on. Italy served a sort of birth place for the Renaissance in European culture. During this time period, more and more people were placing humans as the center of life and art, and the way they viewed every day concepts and ideas were becoming more complex. They started questioning things that were never questioned in past and exploring ideals that were never once explored. The people started breaking from the mold that society had set for them, and some faced repercussions because of this. The people who were practicing this new way of thinking viewed it as a time of powerful wisdom and classical learning after such a cultural decline.
Thousands of years after the Middle Age era ended, the Renaissance period began. The term meaning “rebirth” brought a renewed interest in the Classical World of Rome and Greece. The increased number of mythological figures and nude sculptures was evident. Not only did the Renaissance bring a renewed interest in art, but also a renewed interest in education and the natural world. Artists were able to expand their ideas through improved literacy, travel, and books. Religion was also a huge factor in people’s lives back then and it was the base for many of the artist works. With the renewed interest in Classical works, Italian artists were working to create pictures that their viewers would find believable.
The renaissance began in Italy and spanned over 150 years, from the late 13th century to the early 17th century. It was a time of great invention and discovery. Renaissance means “rebirth” in French, as it was a rebirth of interest in classical culture. During this era the focus became more human centered, known as classical humanism. This was an occasion of great innovation, scientific discovery and creativity. During this period linear perspective began to be used in visual art to create an idea of space. It is said that Brunelleschi developed or began using linear perspective to give a realistic appearance in his work. During the renaissance the culture began to be more analytical and mathematical so realism and naturalism were
The Renaissance, a cultural movement that mended the gap between the middle Ages and Modern history, was a powerful piece of history throughout the world. From the emphasis on art to the questioning of religion, the Renaissance changed how humans thought, felt and acted forever. The term Renaissance itself means “Rebirth” and that’s exactly what happened between the 14th to 17th centuries. It was the time for change and awakenings with the inhabitants inching toward ‘modernism’ but by bit. Leaving behind basic rituals and beliefs to develop more complex ones was only the beginning of the thought-provoking period. Without this period, igniting so many intellectual, art-based and religion oriented flames, who knows where the world would be.
With the dark ages coming to end and the economy of Europe slowly beginning to rise again, a giant scale cultural revolution like never before was slowly beginning to sweep over Europe. Becoming what we now know as the European Renaissance, every aspect of European life changed because of this revolution. The Renaissance began a renewed interest in the people to seek knowledge and question what the world around them meant. The Renaissance wasn’t just about learning however, it included exploring the world, art, and focusing on what the human being had to offer in society. This focus on the human being on an individual level became what is commonly known as Humanism. Humanism can be seen as the central essence of the Renaissance because it questioned everything society, be it religion or the government, had to offer. The Renaissance can actually be divided into two different sections in Europe, the Italian and latter Northern parts. The Northern Renaissance includes all the countries in Western Europe directly not tied to Italy. Beginning in Italian city states, the central ideas of the Renaissance had a rippling effect throughout Europe. The European Renaissance was a giant shift in cultural and technological paradigms that paved the way for Europe to leave the middle ages and enter the Modern Age.
Closely following the Middle Ages, the Renaissance era was a time from the fourteenth to the seventeenth century in Europe that brought a revival or “rebirth.” This rebirth came from an interest in ancient Greek and Roman education and principles. Europe was becoming more politically stable, new technological advances, like the printing press, were being created, new discoveries were being made, and the exploration of new lands/continents was urged. Philosophy, literature and especially art were greatly appreciated during this time. The style of painting, sculpture and decorative arts identified with the Renaissance when it emerged in Italy in the late 14th century, reaching its zenith in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. In addition to its expression of classical Greek and Roman traditions, Renaissance art sought to capture an individual experience and the beauty and mystery of humanity. It was a time for artists skilled in multiple crafts and inspired by biblical stories to demonstrate what they could do. Christianity has spread around Europe and became the standard religion and a value system for mankind. The Medici family, one of the wealthiest families in Italian history, were actively involved with the church. The Christian church had become a large organization, with the help of the Medici, and it had greatly influenced the arts. Christian leaders had a part in every aspect of life, and the arts were no different. This begged the question, how much did
