“Wade in the Water” is an excerpt from Alvin Ailey’s Revelations. His masterpiece Revelations was created in1960 and it reflects his experience and memories of growing up in Texas. “Wade in the Water” is a dance within Revelations that shows us a traditional baptism ceremony that takes place in a river. Alvin Ailey’s “Wade in the Water” shows us the hope that blacks had of someday being free. The baptism signifies the faith and hope of blacks being free from slavery and beginning a new life with freedom. For example, in (1:23-1:40) we see three male dancers with what look like tree branches “cleansing” the air from evil spirits before the baptism takes place. In (1:16-1:23) we see seven dancer taking two steps forward and two steps back with their hands together, like they were praying, and two other dancers with their hands up, as if they were asking god for help.

Caricature as a style itself is a combination of two separate social inventions. “Caricature Adopting the Italian invention of caricatura-the graphic exaggeration of facial and bodily features for comic effect and combining it with an updated repertoire of visual metaphor, personification, and allegorical attributes. ” Though born in England, the story about to be told in this paper is one of Spanish origin, a story about Francisco Goya. This paper will discuss how Goya implemented painting, drawing, and printing technique to stimulate social critique of and satirize the subjects of his works. Then how does Goya’s methodology transcend into modern caricature and social critique?
Andy Goldsworthy creates art that not only incorporates the natural environment, but transforms the natural materials he works with into pieces of art that evoke a fresh perspective and a greater understanding of nature. Three of his photographs that show a unique perspective of nature are Rowan Leaves and Hole, Ice Spiral: Tree Soul, and Sticks Joined by Freezing One End to Another. In the first photograph, Rowan Leaves and Hole, Goldsworthy displays his understanding of nature and draws connections to it by using colors commonly found in the outdoors, as well as common forms of nature i.e. the hole and the circle. Circles are most often seen in the sun and the moon, and holes can be found in many places including in the ground and in trees.
