Goldsworthy has an eye for the beauty of nature, he sees things that not everybody sees and he puts a lot of passion into his pieces but that does not make him a lunatic. Some might argue that spending ages in the cold on creating a temporary piece of art that will fall apart merely a few hours later is somewhat crazy and over ambitious but, aren’t there certain activities for all of us that we like to spend our time on, even though when/if they might not be particularly productive as such? Especially his egg / pinecone like sculptures made out of stone, wood, ice or similar material seem to be very time-consuming. They however, depending on the material, are more durable and some of them have been and still are part of indoor and outdoor
There is nothing more rewarding than a superfluous effort to achieve something. The work and effort itself is not the enjoyable part per say, but it's the outcome that exceeds the expectations. A familiar example would be doing an extra credit assignment along with the other assigned work. There are many opportunities in life that you could spurn, take, or surpass.
So when you’re not busy, what do you like to do in your free time?
Mark Drolsbaugh presentation titled “Madness in the Mainstream” encompassed Deaf education and challenges Deaf children face with mainstream education. Drolsbaugh was born hearing and as he grew up, he had progressive hearing loss and became Deaf by college. Luckily for him, he was born into a Deaf family. Drolsbaugh went on to Graduate from Gallaudet and wrote for different deaf newspapers and publications and became a school counselor. Before continuing, it is crucial to understand how gangs originated. In the article “Where All the Madness Began: A Look at Gang History”, Hoover stated that both African American and Hispanic Gangs began forming in the 1920’s, but it wasn’t until the 1980’s when gangs became organized and violent to the extent for which they are recognized today (2). In the midst of the desperate conditions blacks and Latinos found themselves in, young men from these racial or ethnic groups created units within their neighborhoods as a sign of brotherhood. They wanted to show, white people specifically, that they were powerful and that they were not broken or limited by of the environments that powerful white people had created. Furthermore, in the 20’s, gangs
In 30 BCE, Egypt became a province of Rome. A devastating military defeat at the Battle of Actium caused the fall of Egypt’s Pharaohs and on a larger scale, the rise of the Roman Empire. With any great changes in society come a massive change in expression, and the art of Roman Egypt is certainly a prime example. The artistic canons and subjects of Ancient Egypt that had lasted millennia suddenly change and are eventually replaced by Rome’s. In this paper I will discuss the merging of the two cultures and artistic styles.
the start are often not appreciated but the ones that have been worked for do
Notwithstanding the self-centered connotation of my statement, I believe I have the best hobby in the world. There is, in a matter of fact, no other activity in which I show such devotement and passion as this one. If I could get paid for accomplishing it, I would be an impressively hardworking employee. Nevertheless, I would never feel like I would work. Literally. Because that is what my avocation is defined by, not working. To my mind, procrastinating is undoubtedly the most relaxing occupation ever created, since it simply consists in turning our backs to any labor, effort or responsibilities. However, its positive effects on one’s mind aren’t the only advantages it brings to a person. Actually, I can strongly state that it drastically improves one’s academics. In Gerald Graff’s article Hidden Intellectualism, the author explains how his passion, American football, has as well developed his intellect. He indeed describes it as “full of challenging arguments, debates, problems for analysis, and intricate statistics” (398). So how can procrastination as passion improve one’s work-ethics? Some advocates of early and well organized working would argue that procrastinating only leads to educational delay and that laziness is a vice that should be banned in our society. However, these romantic critics are too dogmatic in their provincial ideology. Procrastinating is extremely beneficial to our studies in a large variety of ways. To begin, it stimulates our imagination.
Kass has a great rational that, if we do have a limited amount of time on this world, we might as Kass said, want to make a big impact that future generations may remember. But, sometimes that is not the case. When being "mortal" we can do these activities, as I said previously, subconsciously and/or for recreational purposes. In addition, being immortal does not necessarily mean that you lose all interest in doing something you love and enjoy. Being immortal can allow you to expand your views and contrast that with what you have learned in the past to the future or vice versa. Yes, there can be some decline in interest; overall, that is what being human --being either mortal or immortal-- is all about. We lose interest in things and try to discover different ways we can create "beautiful artifacts" maybe drawing is not someone's strong suit but maybe writing or dance is. Beautiful artifacts do not need to be created with a purpose sometimes the smallest things turn out great and there was not any expectation. Therefore, to me I see no direct correlation with the fact that being mortal has to do with the passion to create beautiful artwork for years
The term sane has many different perspectives and is truly questioned in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest by Ken Kesey. Sane in modern society is commonly known as the ability to have a sound mind, or not mentally ill. Although this book was written not too long ago, this definition of normality is insanely different. Nurse Ratched’s tyranny makes clarity of how “insane” the patients really are. Although the patients are considered abnormal, many of them could live on the outside world. Are they actually mentally-ill, or do they just not fit into the norm of society? Due to fear and lack of gut they choose to stay inside the institution. The difference between normality and insanity definitely has a distinct line between them. Sanity in
Arts & Recreation: So the people painted paintings of the sunrise and sunset and the view. By the view I mean like the sun and the land. Do you take pictures? Well some people go through all the work to process the picture or even paint it.
The chosen art piece, from Roman origin, is titled “Dionysus” and portrayed Dionysus, the god of wine, with his follower Pan. This artwork is a great example of Greek art’s influence in Roman artwork. The main elements of Greek’s naturalistic art, specifically of High Classical period, are rendered beautifully in this piece combined with distinctive elements from verism, unique to Roman art. So, the idealism of Greek art and the individualism of Roman art come together to create an art piece that is divine, mythical, and yet very human and therefore, relatable.
As a child I enjoyed drawing several objects, and I felt that I had a rare gift to express life through art. I hope to reinvest my time back into my childhood hobby upon graduation later this year.
I grew up alongside the wild Rocky Mountain Columbines, where the air is crisp and the winters are long. I spent my time engaging in the arts such as acting, writing, and creating. From a young age I was drawn to the world of imagination and found happiness through producing art. We all face and over come challenges within our lives and whenever I am faced with hardship I find comfort in visually expressing myself.
Many times your hobbies and interests go beyond your personal creative world. Make a list of hobbies and interests.
The Glass Menagerie was a well written novel that I enjoyed because of all the different aspects of the characters lives and views of things. For example Laura an older single mother who wants the best for her two grown children Laura who is 23 years old and Tom who is the older brother. There father Mr. Wingfield abandoned them for long distance traveling and never came back so Laura is taking care of them on her own. Her daughter Laura is shy and quiet girl who has a crippled leg and cannot work because of it and her oldest son Tom is just like his father and wants to get out of Chicago and travel but he works for a factory to provide for his family. So that is the situation in the novel. The novel had little hints now and then about what was going to happen like from the characters talking, the subtitles, and the dramatic music that played throughout the play, so it was really easy to understand.
