Chapter One
Essily gazed ruefully through the exceptionally clean window. It was square, except for a semicircle at the top, and had a gilded frame. There was a plush lavender velvet seat which she sat upon now, with a bed surrounded by gauzy white curtains. The lavish bedroom was a stark contrast to the view itself. There were cotton fields for as far as the eye could see, with small cabins containing more than a few holes in the walls at the edge of the fields. People were scattered all throughout the fields under the glaring sun. “Master Vaughn requests your presence in the library for lessons.” said a tinkling voice. Essily turned and saw Missy. Missy’s gorgeous caramel skin nicely complimented her thick, deep brown hair. She was Essily’s personal slave, but Essily wasn’t one much for primping for hours a day and often fetched things herself, so Missy had plenty of free time. When Essily passed through the hallways, she could typically hear Missy singing with a voice like warm honey. It’s such a shame to see her talent go to waste. “Lessons?” Essily asked. “It’s Saturday.” She never had lessons on Saturdays since her

The library was the crown jewel of the house. It was at the center, and occupied both floors with a cherry wood spiral staircase connecting both the floors. It also had a great balcony off the second floor that overlooked the whole estate, and her parents hosted a multitude of social gatherings with “important, respectable people” whose names Essily couldn’t be bothered to remember. Every wall of the library was covered with bookshelves that were either filled with books, or various souvenirs her parents had acquired through the years, such as a large globe or a painting of some idyllic city. It was all lit by an enormous chandelier.Waiting at one of the tables in the center of the library was her tutor, Mr. Smith, and her
Chapter 5: Paul explains about how unsanitary the camps are, explaining that he and his friends had gotten louses (lice) in their head, and they try to attempt to get it off. Haie tries to cheer up the rest of the soldiers by telling them that he might have got the lice from the hospital, but he is the one who laugh the most, for 30 minutes straight. After trying to get the lice off themselves, they hear that Himmelstoss got in trouble for harassing the soldiers, and the magistrate’s son caught him in the action. Hearing the news that Himmelstoss got in trouble for his wrongdoings, Paul and the rest of the group start planning out what they should do or say to Himmelstoss when he comes back to the camp. When talking about what they should do

Truman Capote’s In Cold Blood was created after the death of the Clutter family which took place in Holcomb, Kansas. Like every author, Capote incorporates his own style of writing in his book, such as adding details like imagery, using specific tones for instance happiness and liveliness, and even giving a point-of-view to a few of the characters. Capote’s style of writing allows the audience to find out the central claim of the passage which is to show how the murder of the Clutter’s affected those who knew them like the Dewey’s, who the intended audience is such as detectives, the purpose of the passage which gives a voice to other characters, and lastly what strategies were used to convey the message such as using a specific tone for instance loneliness and imagery. For example, the passage states
The book In Cold Blood by Truman Capote tells the true story of the murder of the Clutter family, the events that lead to their murders, and the reasons behind the killer’s motives. In 1959 Holcomb, Kansas the family was brutally killed by gunshot wounds while being tied up by Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. Perry Smith and Dick Hickock at first get away with the murders. They left little clues and had no personal connection to the murdered family. The residents of Holcomb were deeply affected by the murders. “The village of Holcomb stands on the high wheat plains of Western Kansas, a lonesome area that other Kansans call "out there."
1) “They carried the soldier’s greatest fear, which was the fear of blushing. Men killed, and died, because they were embarrassed not to. It was what had brought them to the war in the first place, nothing positive, no dreams of glory or honor, just to avoid the blush of dishonor. They died so as not to die of embarrassment” (O’Brien 20).
Marty walks out of his house and to the main street. He sees hundreds of 30 year olds lined
Truman Capote's tone in the story, In Cold Blood, is extremely somber yet subjective at the same time. As he wrote the story, the plot came off as mysterious and suspenseful since no one knew who murdered the Clutter family, except the readers, as it then became a manhunt to find the killers and bring justice. Capote attempts to be objective and impassive throughout the story, however he can’t help but allow his empathy towards the case surface. Had Capote written in an objective layout, the readers wouldn’t have gained such information and opinions from the author himself. An example of the subjective tone would be where the author delved into the killers past and allowed us to get a glimpse of their lives.
Perry Smith and Dick Hickock are two remarkably different characters. In the beginning of the novel, they’re known only as the murders of the Clutter family, but Truman Capote tells their life stories in such a way that they become more than that. Even though these two men are basically introduced as murderers, they quickly become relatable and interesting characters. So much is learned about their feelings and lives that one can not help but almost look past their reckless ways. Both of these men have unique character traits that amalgamate in an intriguing way. Throughout In Cold Blood, Capote includes many instances that show how Dick and Perry, when combined, make the perfect murderer.
There are multiple details that stood out as particularly true to life in my view. One was the nariartator that it is telling the story/ his view point main character mentions what check out aisle number. It mentions how the three girls looked. The character payed attention to how the girl that seem to be the leader was walking saying “she came down a little hard on her heels, as if she didn’t walk in her bare feet much” this quote helps you picture how the person and might help picture what the girl was walking like. He gave details to where he was and what he was doing when the three girls was doing. He mentions that “I’m in the third check-out slot with my back to the door so that I didn’t see them until they had reach the bread” this helps the reader to set up an mental image of the store as they are reading.
Heart – Was there something that transformed the way that you feel? I would have to say my son.
Paragraph 1 tone : He seems nervous about this trip He says ,“We’ve all been up since midnight, starting our predive checks after a couple of restless hours of sleep, and the whole team is running on adrenaline. These are the roughest conditions I’ve dived in so far on the expedition” The way he says that they’ve been up the whole night doing checks without sleep and how this is one of the roughest conditions he has dived in so far just gives the sense of nervousness if he will make the challenge.
“But afterward the townspeople, theretofore sufficiently unfearful of each other to seldom trouble to lock their doors, found fantasy re-creating them over and over again—those somber explosions that stimulated fires of mistrust in the glare of which many old neighbors viewed each other strangely, and as strangers.”
"so sorry, but i'm sick had to skip class and leave work early today - i'm going to have to skip tonight. how about Saturday?"
It was a night like no other, the whole world asleep, and at peace. Little did Gabriel know, this was his last moments to see the world. For tomorrow, he would lose something he always held dear. As Gabriel lies in his bed, not knowing what tomorrow brings, he closes his eyes, and falls fast asleep. In the middle of the night, he hears a sound like no other, a strange ringing. The noise grows louder and louder, and a whisper saying, “Open your eyes.” When Gabriel tried to open his eyes, either his eyes were not cooperating, or its was just too dark; because all he saw was darkness.
In Cold Blood, written by Truman Capote, is a book that encloses the true story of a family, the Clutters, whose lives were brutally ended by the barrel of a 12-gauge shotgun. The killers were 2 men, each with 2 different backgrounds and personalities, each with his own reasons to take part in such a harrowing deed. Capote illustrates the events leading up to the murder in sharp detail and describes its aftermath with such a perspective that one feels that he is right there with the culprits, whose names are Dick Hickock and Perry Smith. They had very critical roles in the murder and how they themselves were caught, and in many ways they were foils for one another. Through Capote's extensive descriptions
