This English course was a vastly informative class. We covered lots of criteria material and discussed topics during class. During the course, I have accomplish a variety of goals I once thought were unachievable. I still have a little ways to go to become the best writer I can be but by taking this course I have been able to expand and learn as a writer, editor, and analyzer of my work, peers work, and academic work. I have learned from others as others have learned from me. I have tried to improve particular aspects of my writing but continue to struggle with other aspects. I have found new strategies and breakthroughs that have allowed me to improve my essays. However, I am still learning how to write and believe that I always shall …show more content…
This is often because I never have a clear idea about what I am writing about and how I should begin to write I, but throughout the course I learned a few techniques to diminish my procrastination. A technique that I use is to sit down for twenty minutes and write non-stop about the topic I am focusing in other words called free writing. Additionally to that I also try not to focus on grammar or sentence structure and try not to censor my thoughts in any way. I write my essay without attempting to going back to revise it when I haven’t even got a paragraph. These techniques have really helped me procrastinate less. In the beginning of the course it would take me hours to write a two-page paper, but by using those techniques I have improved and now I am able to write a two-page paper in fewer time.
At the other hand, the English class has helped me build my personal assurance to reveal myself or perhaps expressed myself with words; that have been particularly fascinating personally. I've found delight in written essays. For me to get to that point it took me practice. With my first essay, “Love and Gold”, my professor had a conference with me to discuss about my essay. The professor and I went over it and I observed countless words were not written correctly. I perceived that some sentences did not make any sense. This an attribute to the lack of not proofreading my essays or not correctly proofreading. After my first essay, I
Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
As I look back on my English 101 experience, I have come to the conclusion that I have learned many new things that have improved my abilities as a writer. I have learned some new techniques that have improved my ways of approaching an essay. I learned all about the rhetorical appeals and how to apply them in my writing and how to look for them in a essay written by a author. I have also learned how to argue both sides of a argument, and how to look for reliable sources and to properly quote and site the author of the essay. I feel as if I have become a better writer and my improved writing skills are shown within each essay.
After a grueling first quarter, I was completely miserable, with terrible grades, low self-esteem, and no end in sight. I was hanging on to the hope that there would be some epiphany moment, a moment where suddenly my writing soared, along with my grades. That change did happen, but not all at once‒ it began during the third quarter, when my teacher, Ms. Boynton, asked me to stay after class, along with five other students. She asked if we would each be interested in participating in The Atlantic and College Board Essay Contest, in which we would each submit an analysis of a famous American speech. I was truly stunned that she had chosen me over so many other students in the class, since I had felt so lost for so many weeks, but it was exactly what I needed as motivation to keep on improving my writing. As I worked closely with her on my contest submission and other class work, I came to realize how much she cared about me and wanted to help me succeed. With that being said, she never made it easy; she continually pushed me, knowing that I could always do better if I set my mind to it. Last September, I began her demanding course with the intention of purely surviving, not necessarily thriving, but that
At the beginning of the semester I entered General Studies Writing 1110, not knowing what to expect. I knew the class was solely based on writing and perfecting personal style, but I never anticipated the valuable information I would learn throughout the course of the year. The only advanced English class I have taken in high school was English Honors in eighth grade. That class gave me the base knowledge of writing, grammar and form that has helped me through my four essays in this class. Starting out, I was not sure what the standard for passing was; even though it was unclear to me what passing was, I strove for perfection. By the time the second essay came around I realized my writing was never perfect. Peer editors and family played a
This English class has been an amazing learning experience for me. It made me grow as a writer, I am now more convinced when I write and can express myself more effectively, so readers understand what it is exactly that they’re reading about. Although I didn’t get off to a great a start in this course and if I had to do it over again, there are definitely some things that I could have done better. Interacting with my peers on the discussion board, made me learn a few things about working with others and the Smart thinking was helpful as well. However, above all the things I learned from this course, the most was about myself. The knowledge
English Composition is a whirlwind of knowledge which you must face whether you want to or not. Throughout this semester, I have overcome many obstacles while taking this class. I have also learned many things, some relating to English, some relating to life in general. The thing most strikingly obvious was the amount of personal issues I had this semester. My mother needed to have emergency surgery, I got into a car accident, leaving me without a way to campus, and I had to balance classes with organizations that are required for my scholarship. While most people think that this would be considered a large obstacle, I saw it as the opposite. I was able to stay on top of my work and I am extremely happy with the way most of my work turned out. This experience made me proud of myself and I became inspired to put in more effort into my work and I enjoyed writing even more.
College writing has been a semester fill with different essays and ways of writing. Although, we have only written three essays during this entire semester (not including this one), it has helped me realize my strengths and weaknesses as a writer. Even though we did write essays, we also wrote many journal entries throughout the semester. By being able to express our creative thoughts out on paper not in an essay format was very beneficial to the course. Throughout this course I have had some easy parts and harder parts for sure, one being my grammar definitely needs some work. However, this course has helped shaped me as a writer.
Going into this course I wasn’t sure what I should except. I had the goal for myself to improve and learn skills that would make writing less daunting for me. I feel like I have learned so many things about my writing that I didn’t think much about before. A I had for myself was to break the cookie-cutter mold that was set upon me throughout high school. I have learned so many things about myself as a writer and many skills that have been effective for me in the writing process.
Throughout this course, I discovered just how bad a writer I was. At the very beginning we had to introduce our selves. There was a small section in that paragraph where I mentioned that I hate writing essay. I mentioned that I’ve never been good at them and I rarely got good scores. However, I feel as though I have greatly improved my writing skills during this course. I’ve picked up several rules and have made the most out of this class. I am very proud of myself and the work I have put forth into this class in efforts of improving my essay writing skills.
Throughout my high school writing career, I always procrastinated on reading and writing assignments. I would start my essays an hour before they were due and somehow, I found ways to finish. Consequently, I received poor grades on the majority of my writing assessments, due to my procrastination problem. Procrastination was the cause of my poor writing skills and habits. I still believe there are ways to avoid procrastination but the determination to execute a specific plan is a necessity.
English has always been one of the classes I have struggled with. I used to get low 80’s after writing what I thought was a good essay. I would struggle to get B’s in middle school because of it. Then I got into highschool and had you for a teacher. I started to get 85’s and 89’s and occasionally a low 90 on essays. During my freshmen year my writing improved greatly; however, this trimester has been even more beneficial than my first class with you as a teacher. This trimester has shown me various amounts of ways to write an essay. Whether it's expository, persuasive, or narrative. I learned the differences between them and achieved the ability to write an essay with them all.
English is a class that I have always taken lightly. Up until this class, I always had thought that I was a good writer. Papers were pretty easy for me and I never put that much effort and still got the grade that I wanted. When I came into this class however, that all changed. This class has taught me so much and has really developed my writing. I have learned many new writing styles and techniques, and I became familiar with new genres. Looking back at previous years, I now realize that I was a decent writer. But after taking this semester writing class, I can now say that I am a good writer with many new skills. College Composition has shaped me into a better writer, student, and thinker. Over time each paper became easier to write and I achieved better grades.
Throughout the course of my senior year in high school, I decided to take the English 101 college class to get a head start and become prepared for the upcoming post-secondary educational years. Throughout the course, we have had many reading and writing experiences. We read many essays that was helpful, interesting, and powerful in terms of context. In return, my writing has improved in numerous ways. Many particular handouts have been utilized and aided me in the improvement of my writing. Many of the class activities brought my work to life and helped me think about the work critically. It led me to be engaged with my peers and learn from them. Therefore, I want to explain each aspect.
The English courses I have learned since I joined this college a few semesters ago have taught me the art of writing and the language to use in the writing arena. When I started my course in this college, I thought that I was going to spend most of the time reading classics, forming discussion groups and writing about them. This is what we used to do in my previous college. In this college, I realized there is more than just reading and writing papers. Throughout the coursework, our teacher, Mr. Still assisted me to enhance my analytical skills through his marvelous guidance. I have learned to question everything that I come across in my efforts to become the best writer. Mr. Still has
