Currently, I am crossing a huge bridge from high school writing to college writing. Which means there is going to be plenty of room for my writing skills to progress in various ways. After putting thought into where my weaknesses may be in my writing I have arrived to a conclusion of 5 personal goals to improve my essays. My 5 goals will be the pillars that keep my bridge up and from collapsing, by the use of these 5 goals I will easily transition from high school writing to college writing. My first writing goal is to become familiar with multifarious kinds of punctuation and use them effortlessly throughout my papers. For example, a simple goal to improve my punctuation usage is to naturally insert one recently grasped form of punctuation. Also, I could read lessons about punctuation I am unaware of. Lastly, I could talk to my professor and have a conversation with him about the types of punctuation he knows and learn from him. I believe using different kinds of punctuation could introduce new wider topics into my essays and produce more polished papers. Sadly, I very rarely ever use figurative language as I may not be that much of a creative person to do so. Therefore, I am going to push myself to think outside of the box and attempt to use figurative language at least twice in every essay I write from here on out. By the use of figurative language, it could make my essays more interesting to read, and add more purpose to my writing. Also, another problem I have noticed in my papers is using the word you in essays it does not belong in at all. The one way I could improve in this is by simply stop using it in my papers and if I catch myself doing so just cut it out. Lastly, by getting rid of the word you in my papers it will get rid of the filler word and make my papers flow extremely
A good writer is someone who knows how to write well, have ideas to put on paper and write a well-organized essay that answers the question that a professor gives to you. I identify my own writing by not being good because I have issues sometimes getting words on paper, organizing the essay and my grammar is not very well. The methods that are effective for improving my own writing is practice writing and have someone proof read my work. I am in COM100L because my grammar is not good and my writing on paper is all over the place. My expectation for this course is to improve my grammar when I write essays and fix my mistakes when I write.
In my future writing, I can improve by focusing on the areas that have been brought to my attention, such as fragmented sentence structures, capitalization, punctuation, and MLA formatting mistakes. Everyone on the planet has a goal set in life, but only a handful attempt to improve to obtain their goal by studying the subject their goal is in. In my English class, English 101 this quarter I was astonished by how much I had progressed as a writer sharpening my writing skills and also learned a lot about writing that I hadn’t learned before. In my writing portfolio for this quarter I had to write an autobiography essay, a research essay, and this reflection essay to develop my writing skills better. The writing assignments were fun to do because it challenged me to work on essays of different styles that were new to me. The essay assignments helped me grow as a better writer that gave me the self-confidence and skills to take on the world on my own.
“Finally!” I thought to myself as summer is slowly approaching, “I am done with this high school forever.” I honestly am so excited for summer that each day I count down the number days I have for school. Upon entering Columbia College, writing was one of my weaker areas. It was very important that I gained the necessary knowledge and confidence to become a better writer. I didn’t know how to express myself and felt as though my writing was not my interest. As a result of taking English 101, I have gained a better understanding on how to properly research and build a satisfactory paper. Every paper that was assigned seemed like a struggle to complete. Before entering this class, I did not know the meaning of a thesis or why it was important, however, I obtained this skill quickly. I noticed that every paper has an argument and the thesis helps clarify the rebuttal. Now, I have a new outlook on writing. It’s a way to express my thoughts and allow others to see things through my eyes. There is no doubt that I still have a long way to go, but I know if I continue to write, I will get better. Just as I developed more skills in class, the various papers assigned helped to better structure the writer in me. In addition, the subject areas were not only interesting, but very informative and made it much easier to write about my experiences.

While attending writing class, I learned about the 4 steps in writing, bases for revising, organizing, and connecting specific information, and I also learned about the different types of essays such as descriptive, narrative, process, cause and effect and argumentative essay. I have been a student at Milwaukee Area Technical College for 1 semester, and over the course of my enrollment I have grown and learned more that I knew prior to attending this writing course. Participating in this writing class has taught me so much more than stuff about literature and language, it has taught me another way of expressing myself. I have learned here how to write and express myself, how to think for myself, and how to find the answers to the things that I don 't know. Most importantly I have learned how important technique, outlines and organization are. My goal in this paper is to inform writers about how my writing skills have improved.
It has always been difficult for me to find a writing process that works well for me. Over the past years, I have struggled with writing papers and thinking creatively. However, I feel as if I have established a writing process that works for me.
Although my writing has made some good progress during the course of this semester, I still some things I need to learn in order to keep improving my writing. Grammar, writing in an active voice, and building my rewrite skills are three examples of skills I need to build upon to continue to improve me writing.
As a writer there are many elements of writing that I struggle with, especially when composing an essay. When writing an essay, there are usually many skills that need to be used in order to be successful with the writing assignment. Many times in writing I struggle with explaining and fully developing the supporting details and ideas in my essay. I would also like to improve on incorporating clear topic sentences and concluding sentences, connecting my paragraphs ideas back to my thesis. Lastly, improvement can be made in my writing by avoiding awkward or wordy sentences. Writers face numerous challenges in their writing but strive to overcome or improve these challenges with each piece they write.
Since I was ten years old, my father has taught me how to write and sit my goals. He believes that well-written goals will help a person to achieve and how to achieve them, and it also makes the person more optimistic and has self-confident. Therefore, I have taken my first step in my life to achieve several goals, and one of them was being a doctor.
Writing can be very hard especially for first time writers. There are a lot of things and process that they need to undergo in order to master the art of writing. However, it will be hard for them also to accomplish their writing task if they don't have the attitude towards writing just like most writers do.
During this semester in English 107, I have progressed more as a writer. Before I went to University of Arizona, my writing was rigid. I wrote five-paragraph TOEFL style essay all the time in my high school life. After I attended in English 107, I was not confident about my writing skill. Throughout these three projects we have done, I become more and more confident about my writing skill than before. The Student Learning Outcomes also helped me to grow as a writer a lot. In these goals, I did well on several of them, but I still need to work on the other goals.
