The writer is Chris Davis and he has an expertise as a movie critic. The purpose of the writer's piece, from his perspective, is to influence readers not only to see the movie I’ve Gotta Be Me, but to see it at the Morris and Mollye Fogelman International Jewish Film Festival. The writer also wants the reader to go with the mindset that it will be a positive experience. Davis the author, is writing this because as a movie critic. He believes that the movie is more than worth seeing, is a supporter of star Sammy Davis Jr., and the Festival. The context is the movie I’ve Gotta Be Me. This argument appears in the Memphis Flyer under the We Recommended: Culture, News + Reviews. Based on this argument it can be assumed that the readers are empathetic, musical, educated to an extent, opened minded, and value religion. It can also be assumed that the readers rely on the writer for informative unbiased reviews and the writer relies on the readers for followup after the argument. This follow-up is to see the movie themselves. Davis does not use and sources other than Sammy Davis Jr. to support his argument, in this case, making it easier for the reader to evaluate how they feel during and after reading. It can be assumed that the audience is aware of the festival that the movie will be showcased at. The audience’s response will more than likely
This movie based off of a southern family living in Memphis, Tennessee will show you a true taste of southern hospitality. In every film you have your list of characters along with their personalities and most importantly their motives. Along with the certain qualities of every character comes the ethos, pathos, and logos. Ethos which stands for the goodness of a film and/or ethics goes hand in hand with the sender of a film, Pathos which is the passion and emotions of a film which goes hand in hand with the receiver, and lastly the logos which is the logic/information that sends a message. Each rhetoric sends a message and surely puts a movie together.
Although this paper uses a mainstream movie, at all times you should use scholarly writing and language throughout the paper.
The audience within the film, for example, quickly embraces the black-faced foolishness of Mantan: The New Millennium Minstrel Show in their lives. Though once visibly uncomfortable with the content of Mantan, the audience soon responds
It was inevitable that I would evolve into a Hank gal. Hiram King maintains godlike stature with my father’s family in Louisiana. I’ve learned (the hard way) not to bring up his name in their presence unless I had ample time for discussion about why booting him from the Grand Ole Opry was an unprecedented injustice.
Denver Moore and Ron Hall, both the authors and the main characters of this novel, provided a delightfully captivating story about how the two became one through the help of Hall’s wife, Deborah, also known as Miss Debbie. Coming from completely different lifestyles, Denver Hall grew up a slave in Louisiana. On the opposite end of society, there’s Ron Hall, the rich, successful art dealer. Their worlds collided when Miss Debbie convinced her husband Ron to help out at one of the missions for the homeless she was involved in. There, he met Denver, and with the help of God, their lives were unexpectedly changed for the better.
When taking a look at the extensive list of films I decided to pick and choose from a date range and genre range. I wanted to not only focus on one area of film, but also on different aspects across the board stylistically and …… Some of the films I chose because they were tried and true favourites of mine, and some I chose because I had never heard of them before. I wanted to comfort and challenge myself at the same time while taking into consideration what may work best for the theoretical Film Festival at Antelope Valley College. When I think of Film Festivals I think of a presentation to help entice the psyche toward a more progressive thought process. Films need to make the audience stop and think for a little bit afterward, there needs to be a pause, a moment of “huh…”, even if brief. It needs to be something different, something unusual. Film Festivals shouldn’t be for standard films, they shouldn’t be for the mass marketed and well known. So as much as I loved, Star Wars for example, I knew it was less than ideal for this situation. This assignment also gave me the opportunity to reassess the validity of some films that I thought I had liked but upon second analysis, might not hold in such high regard. In the end the films I chose are Juno, High Noon, The King’s Speech, Exit Through the Gift Shop, Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb, and Apocalypse Now.
"I would not think of quarreling with your interpretation nor offering any other, as I have found it always the best policy to allow the film to speak for itself."
All of the critics were writing for the public sphere, which is characterized by Inch and Warnick as containing arguments that are "intended for public or general audiences" (52). In this case, the argument for the public sphere is directed toward movie-going audiences. The argument field is the evaluation of films during the 1990's, and could more specifically include historical films created in the 1990's. The argument field is an important point to my argument because historical film contains many debatable points, all of which will be discussed after the reviews are summarized.
What attracts us to the movie theatre on Friday nights? Is it the commercials we see? Or is it all the gossip we hear from friends and TV talk shows? Well for many, it is the critiques we read and hear almost every day. One who specializes in the professional evaluation and appreciation of literary or artistic works is a critic. The profession of movie criticism is one of much diversity. Reviews range anywhere from phenomenal to average. Not only are movies created for the entertainment and sheer pleasure of the audience, they create a market of jobs and open doors to the world of financial growth. The success of these films, whether they are tremendous or atrocious, is not only dependent of the actual film, but
The song You Don’t Own Me by Lesley Gore from 1963 is a song that conveys many things that were happening around the world at the time. During the time the feminist movement was taking place. This consisted of women fighting for equal job rights. Women wanted to have an equal chance to all jobs just as the men were. They also sought an equal chance to vote and equality on a personal level. In addition, the teenage rebellion was occurring. These “baby boomers” were sometimes restricted from listening to the new rock n’ roll music by their parents. Nevertheless, they still listened to it.
“I’m not sure how many days are left in my life,” this particular sentence in the article captured my attention. It gave me the realization that blacks are really counting down the days of their lives without actually living it. These people that are living in fear have no idea how to handle this. They have to walk on eggshells without cracking them, because once it’s cracked that’s when their lives end. It’s hard to bear but that is the honest truth. And that is what the author was demonstrating in the article. Blacks everyday are fearful for their lives. To me that is just heartbreaking especially the death of a lot of black males. I have four black brothers and I don’t want them to be fearful of their lives, but how could they not with all the killings that has been going on for years now.
When and why did Ravel compose “Ma mère l’Oye" (Mother Goose Suites)? How does each movement of the piece convey the story line of the fairytales? Compare and contrast the piano version vs. the orchestrated version of the piece.
After having read the “Experts from letter from Cardinal Bassarion to Doge Francesco Foscari, July 13, 1453”, this is piece is really disturbing. Although it is short, the writer made sure that the receiver empathy with him. It made feel as if I was experiencing this event the writer was describing. However, I was confused because it was not cleared as to what the writer was describing.
The movie the author would like to critique is probably one of the greatest movies of all time. The movie is The Ten Commandments, starring Charlton Heston, Yul Brenner, and Cecil B. DeMille. If the author were a real critic like Gene Siskel, and Roger Ebert, she would give this movie two thumbs up. The author will probably be giving her, interpretation of this movie all the way through this paper because she feels that in order to understand what’s being critiqued you have to understand the movie. Of course this is a movie that the author has seen a number of times, and every time she views it she finds something that
To an extent, this affirmed to the viewer that while he was interviewing a number of people, he remained unfazed by their perspectives. I believe that he did this for effect during the film and to illustrate to the viewer that we all have our own different perspective and view of our religion, faith, and relationship with God. Therefore, we all entitled to our own opinions. Thus needs to be taken into consideration while studying theology. This is because our humanness creates a diversity of opinions and perspectives as we analyse and reflect on our own religious perspective.
