Mass Shootings
2 of the 5 deadliest mass shootings in modern American history have happened this year. The United States constitution ensures that every citizen has the right to firearms, the question at hand however is to what extent these firearms can be regulated or where should the government draw the line to ensure that the safety of American citizens is prioritized? There comes a point where sending thoughts and prayers just isn’t enough anymore. However, one thing is for certain: something must be done. Guns should be strictly regulated to reduce gun deaths, threat of mass shootings and to be completely true to the promises of the constitution.
Guns, which main purpose is to kill, are unsurprisingly very good at their purpose. That leads
Gun violence has been a hot topic these past years. Guns are being used for crime rather than for safety. Every person holds a different opinion on how guns should be managed. Some say that gun laws should be stricter: others say that the laws already in place have enough control over the people. With the rise of gun violence people are wondering what the future will hold. On average, 90 people die from gun violence every single day (Brady Campaign). That means that in a year, at least 32,850 people die from acts of gun violence. Whatever our government has done to stop gun violence is not working. Gun related crimes have reached an all- time high. The nation is waiting for a solution to this ongoing phenomenon. Now is the time for new or upgraded gun policies
It appears as though the repetitive and unfortunate tragedies of mass shootings have become incorporated into the everyday life of American culture. We are forced to live in a heightened degree of fear, skepticism, and hesitation concerning our public safety. This phenomenon could reasonably occur in response to the vast ineffectiveness of the country’s current gun laws. Time after time similar misfortunes arise, yet few major changes are implemented to prevent them from reoccurring in the future. We cannot let this trend continue any further. Though some claim that increased gun control is useless and infringes upon the Second Amendment, it limits civilians’ weapons grade, obstructs those deemed unfit to wield such lethal weapons, and insures a greater level of security, thus it should be executed.
In recent years since 2011, mass shootings have tripled in number (Gius 8). With the huge increase in shooting our nation has been relentlessly searching for an answer on how to stop all these mass shootings. Inside the political system people of high rankings believe that the answer is to put in place laws that would limit certain aspects in the either purchasing or carrying or a gun. With the victims of shooting vocalizing their beliefs that gun control will be the answer for our question is slowly persuading the few who have not dug deeper into the subject. “Everyone in this issue wants the same thing; we all want major gun violence and crime rates to go down. In order for this to happen for us as a nation we must take action as and unite
There has been an increase in gun sales and conceal and carry permits nearly tripling from 4.7 million to 12.8 million in response to mass shootings like Sandy Hook (Johnson). As time goes on, there has been an increased amount of debates about whether or not the United States should be adding additional regulations to firearms. Some say the U.S. should not because it would be considered as the government infringing on the people’s rights in the words of the Second Amendment: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.” On the opposing side, others feel that guns are something that should not be
As anyone in the nation knows mass shootings are becoming more common and are becoming very predictable. In fact stats from the Crime Prevention Research Center show that over 98% of mass shootings happen in schools that are gun free zones from 1950 to july 10 of 2016. Although Nebraska has not had any reported mass shooting there has been one that took place in the parking lot of fort calhoun elementary school. We should be prepared to defend what place would most likely to be put in a shooting situation.
Gun violence is very prominent in the United States. It has been for quite some time. There are several problems with how people are accessing firearms, and the type of firearms they are buying. People are accessing firearms way to easy nowadays. Some of these firearms are stolen or illegal. We need to somehow crack down on firearms and how these men and women are accessing them so easily. According to BBC, “Some 13,286 people were killed in the US by firearms in 2015, and 26,819 people were injured. These figure exclude suicides.” They also stated “There were 372 mass shootings in the US in 2015, killing 475 people and wounding 1,870, according to the Mass Shooting Tracker, which catalogues such incidents. A mass shooting is defined as a single shooting incident which kills or injures four or more people, including the assailant.” These numbers are outrageous and something needs to be done.
In The United States of America, 285 people have been injured and 126 have been killed in a total of 73 shootings that have occurred within the first three months of 2018 (Mass Shootings Tracker). This is a sad reality which is sweeping across America. Gun control has become an increasingly controversial topic in our nation, but people aren’t shying away from it. In order to create a safer society with less gun-related incidents, we need to set more gun reform laws that regulate the manufacture, sale, transfer, possession, modification, and use of firearms by civilians.
There have been over 360 mass shootings in the United States between January and October of this year. An average of around 1.2 shootings a day should make it alarmingly clear that something must be done. Many people push for gun control due to their strong belief that it will solve the issues that come from people having the capability to murder others, and terminate the mass casualty situations, which are deemed as multiple people being injured and/or killed during a single shooting. They want the government to make it illegal to own a private gun because of how murderers and ill people put them to use. There is no doubt that gun violence and the safety of citizens is of great significance in society. There are several proposals and sides,
There is a huge epidemic that is taking place in the United States and our government has to put a stop to it. This issue is the mass shootings that take place in America. There has been numerous amount of mass shootings in the United States and many of them could have simply been avoided if there were stricter gun laws. This last decade has made Gun Control an unavoidable topic in society for Americas citizens and politicians. Our politicians must take a stand against these senseless crimes and ban these pointless weapons once and for all.
Around the world, guns are used in various things such as hunting, warfare, shooting ranges, and much more. There is one particular action that has increased drastically within the past decades. This is none other than mass shootings in the United States. Since the spark in mass shootings, people have discussed ways to prevent this from happening, but others do not want the laws to change. Although each argument has their benefits and liabilities, America must do something about the deaths and injuries of thousands of people. Changing the laws would have benefits such as decrease in deaths and injuries of others and reduce the societal costs, but argues against the Constitution.
In 1994, two hundred million people own a gun privately, but today its between two hundred seventy and three hundred million people own guns. There have been more than ten firearms deaths per 100,000 people a year. "In 90% of gun crimes, the firearms has changed at least once since the original sale" (Bennet, 3). The topic of gun control can prevent school shootings have a history to consider, and there will always be both supporters and critics who continue to debate this topic.
Mass shootings have recently become more frequent and more deadly over the years. Living in the U.S. we have lived through at least fifty years of mass shootings and a variation of tragedies. A mass shooting is when a gunman shoots or kills four or more people in the same general time and location. The three most deadly shootings that have occurred in the U.S. in the past ten years are “ Las Vegas attack (at least 58 killed), Virgina Tech massacre (32 killed), Orlando nightclub shooting(49 dead)”(Willingham). These shootings exemplify the lack of control that we have over guns and the type of people that have possession of the guns. If we want to try to control the type of people who can own a gun, then the government should keep updated on the people who buy bigger guns with more rounds and do mental background checks. “The researchers also found that most mass murderers suffered from some mental instability, though they usually weren’t flagged by mental health specialists or law enforcement. And military-style rifles were used in 18 of the 66 mass public shootings in the most recent 15-year period the researchers studied”(Shastry, Anjali). If a person has possession a military-style rifle that should automatically redflag the government. Some of the main reasons that these things happen are because the government or law enforcement don't keep tabs on these people.
Over the last years gun control has become a very widely debated topic. The city, county and state lawmakers seem to be having different stands about the public having easy access to guns. Adam Small states, “After centuries of relative obscurity, the Second Amendment has become the center of an intense academic and legal battle during the last twenty years” (1213). The supporters of gun control and its opponents both claim to have the best interest of this country’s citizens .However, there are private citizens who believe that there should be laws to limit the number of people who own a gun. Even though the United States has enacted laws for regulating firearms, the recent shootings at Aurora movie theatre and Sandy
As a result of the Las Vegas Massacre, people are demanding political action to be taken. Mass shootings have been almost too regularly occurring in the past ten years. In fact, just in our current year, “there have been two hundred and seventy three mass shootings in the United States” (Fox 1). This number averages to seven and a half mass shootings per week! These staggering numbers are pressing a very real issue to our leader on gun control laws. A mass shooting has no true definition but follows a strict criteria.According to the Gun Violence Archive, which receives data from shooting incidents, a "mass shooting" is any incident in which a gunman kills four or more people, selects victims randomly, and attacks in a public place (Fox 1). It is necessary for action to be taken in order to decline the occurrence of gun violence. The topic of gun control has sparked great controversy amongst Americans. Protests regarding this issue has led me to research gun control to see how heavily it corresponds with mass shootings. Are more strict gun control laws essential to low gun- related crimes in the United States?
Unlawful acts are on the rise in Nevada, specifically, crimes committed against peace-officers. Increasing the sentences for those who commit these unlawful acts against peace officers, firefighters, emergency medical transponders (E.M.Ts), and their families, will not reduce crimes or even murder. Passing this bill will not reduce shootings and crimes aimed towards peace-officers, firefighters, E.M.T.s and their families just by stating that the punishment will be more severe. This is because people are not in their right mind, and would still do something to harm them. This bill will not do anything that will prevent shootings and crimes towards peace-officers, firefighters, E.M.T.s and their families due to the fact people will not be informed
