Although the death penalty sounds harsh, it really is not. To begin death penalty is very fair. Initially, if a person did a horrible crime they should pay for their crimes. However, sometimes not all the time, innocent people die from it. All in all, there are many reasons that support the death penalty. How fair is the death penalty? It’s very fair compared to most things. First, it doesn't break any laws. Many people say that the death penalty breaks the 8th and 14th amendments, well it doesn't. The 8th amendments states “Excessive bail shall not be required, nor excessive fines imposed, nor cruel and unusual punishments inflicted.” The 14th amendment states, “Declares that all persons born in the U.S. are citizens and are guaranteed
I understand that some people think it’s justice but it’s really not. The way to make that person who has done something bad suffer is to let them sit in prison and rot. They will then have a long time to think about the crime or crimes that they had committed. Some people feel that if one don’t get the death penalty they are considered free but that is not the case. Just cause they are not put to death doesn’t mean they are free. They still have to sit in prison and deal with what they have done. To me I think that the death penalty should just be eliminated
Some may think that the death penalty is a good punishment though. Their reasons being that is more humane to put someone to death than to throw them into prison to rot for the rest of their life. Inmates who receive the life without parole punishment will never see the light of day ever again. They will spend their whole life knowing that someone else was able to escape their hell by being given the death penalty. To add on to that while they live their life out, they are stuck thinking about the crimes they have committed for the rest of their existence, no matter how much they regret what they have
The death penalty is proven to not deter criminals from committing a crime punishable by death. There are many arguments on whether the death penalty should be legal, but the debate boils down to personal morals. The death penalty is immoral. Criminals will act on their drive, with no thoughts about future consequences. The death penalty not only hurts the criminal, but it affects the criminal's family. The family already had to experience what it felt like to see a loved one take an innocent person's life. This causes emotional unnecessary emotional distress for the family and those close to the person on death row. Murdering the criminal will only put the family through even more unnecessary trauma. Furthermore, humans are not pets. The human race should not be able to put others down in the sense of death. It is dehumanizing for the person sentenced to death and the executioner. There should not be a job in the United States where, in the job description, it states that you will kill someone.
The death penalty is commonly used when people are convicted of things like espionage, treason, murder, and death resulting from aircraft hijacking. Though it has been seen as a negative, immoral act, it is a way to get rid of a person who has a huge negative impact on society. It is only used in the most severe cases. People like Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Bomber, received the death penalty because of his act of terrorism. He had killed 3 people and injured many others. The death penalty is justified because the punishment fits the crime itself. By putting someone just in jail who murdered someone previously, it does not compare strongly enough. By using the death penalty, it keeps the convict from ever committing the same crime again, which would be of chance if the convict was only put in jail.
The death penalty is one of the worst punishments for criminals. There are so many problems rooted in the death penalty.I believe we should get rid of the death penalty because they could be killing an innocent person that has been convicted. We should also get rid of the death penalty because killing someone is more expensive than keeping them in jail for life.People on death row are promised a quick death not a slow and painful one but there have been times when prisoners are taking longer to die and its more painful than it should be.
Capital punishment, otherwise known as the death penalty, has been effective tool in our country’s justice system since its inception. When an inmate is given this, the harshest sentence available, it is always with just cause. Capital Punishment is an important tool in our criminal justice system today and there are several reasons it should remain in effect.
Death penalties are common in many states today. The death penalty is good because a continuous murderer could have taken an innocent person's life, and once the defendant is sentenced to death, the victim’s family would be at ease. Another reason is money, taxes that citizens are paying everyday for a defendant’s trial who repeatedly commits an act of murder.
I strongly believe in the death penalty because it deters crime. According to James Pitkin (2008) “Advocates of the death penalty argue that it deters crime, is a good tool for police and prosecutors (in plea bargaining for example), makes sure that convicted criminals do not offend again and is a just penalty for atrocious crimes such as child murders, serial killers or torture murderers.”
There are many reasons to both support and oppose the death penalty. Many people can feel very strongly about whether or not they approve of this method of punishment. I feel that the death penalty is wrong, and I believe that there is much support to back this up. I believe that the death penalty is wrong because it is not an effective deterrent, racially and economically bias, unreliable, expensive, and morally wrong of society.
Death penalty is a constant source of controversy and divided opinion depending on who you ask. The punishment of death is given to criminals who commit severe crimes. The severity of crimes that attract the death penalty is debatable due to the severity of the crime. The justice system is based upon punishment for crimes committed by emphasizing the punishment fitting the crime committed. Countries such as China and Singapore, and United States, issue the death penalty to punish murderers or rapist, therefore fueling the already going debate on how to befit the punishment is in such cases. All the death penalty aims to achieve is the punishment to those who break the rules. The death penalty has well documented weaknesses as well as strengths. Not least of is brutality and finality, some of these frailties lead to the calls for its abolishment. The death penalty is inhumane. Wrongly applied as well as completely unjustifiable sometimes killing innocent people irrespective of the crime. Life sentence of imprisonment without parole or pardon achieves all that the death penalty seeks to achieve without costing the society its moral standing and families losing those they love.
The death penalty is a necessary punishment in this time of cold-blood killers that do not deserve to live because it can save taxpayers money, help victims families justification, and deters criminals from other crimes being committed.
The death penalty is what built our world today, its been used around our world for hundreds of years. The death penalties are what built our safe country by putting all the bad criminals to justice. It has always been part of our history and it always will be. According to deathpenaltyinfo.org, “Britain influenced America’s use for the death penalty more than any other country.” The first recorded execution in the United States was Captain George Kendall, and he was executed in Jamestown, Virginia for being a spy for Spain. Today more people are against the death penalty and the use of it has declined since the 1990’s (Death Penalty Information). I believe the death penalty should only be used in certain cases and situations, such as
The death penalty is not constitutional as it violates the eight and the fourteenth amendments. The eighth amendment says that there shall not be cruel and unusual punishment. Cruel was defined as excessively painful or brutal (Thisnation n.d.). The supreme court has ruled before that the penalty was not excessively painful. They have however, said that the death penalty was unusual (Thisnation n.d.). The fourteenth amendment is about equal rights of life, liberty, and or property. The death penalty deprives one of their right of life as well as their right of freedom before they are executed.
Firstly, the death penalty is a punishment which should be put in use in cases where there is a death toll of 5 or more people (excluding manslaughter). The reason for this is because there are many forms of punishments aside from the
The death penalty is the worst sentence you could possibly ever get during a criminal trial. Many people think that the death penalty is cruel and unusual punishment because they think that no one under any circumstance has the right to take another human beings life. I personally disagree with this because there are many crimes in this world that I do believe deserve the death penalty due to the severity of the crime that was committed by the perpetrator. In the United States, the death penalty is primarily reserved for people who have been convicted of murder or other capital offenses that are to severe to let them live out the rest of their days in maximum security prison. The U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that capital punishment is neither unconstitutional and not cruel and unusual punishment, and exists within the boundaries of the 8th and 14th amendments of the constitution. There are some instances in which capital punishment has been approved for individuals who have raped or sexually assaulted minors in some way and i think that is one of the most heinous crimes that someone can commit and they should be put to death. Though far earlier in the history of the United States, capital punishment was used for a wider variety and less violent and heinous of crimes. Crimes such as arson, rape, robbery, and counterfeiting also resulted in this ultimate penalty and the taking of the crooks life. Many crimes which are no longer issued the death penalty in society today, such
