As time passes so do certain ideas, concepts, and fads, but one person who still impacts the world is William Shakespeare. Shakespeare is a Renaissance playwright, actor, and poet, who has made a huge impact on the English language along with several others. His writing style is unique and one of a kind. He has changed the English world for the better, and has a relatable, inspirational story. When Shakespeare writes, he targets the most vulnerable parts of the reader’s mind, and plays with the emotions of the human brain. He uses love, violence, comedy, and manipulation, to draw in the reader, viewer, or listener. Shakespeare greatly contributed to the modern English language, creating about two thousand new words and phrases. Some of them, like, “honey-tongued”,”flowery”, “foul-mouthed”, and “madcap” are unusual and not frequently used, but there are plenty of other necessary words he created. They include “exposure”, “useful”, and “amazement” (A Few Questions, Mr. Shakespeare by New York Times). Shakespeare’s words were adapted from other cultures and languages, which he had heard from the immigrants in the cultured city of London. Shakespeare knew how to draw in his reader. He wanted his viewers to become more of listeners. In the video “Why Shakespeare?” the speaker tells the audience that a play is a voice, and it isn’t about what the viewer sees, it’s it’s about what the listener hears. He thinks that it is easier to feel and connect to the text when listening. The speaker in, “Why Shakespeare?”, says, “What matters in life is what we apprehend, what we cease, what ceases us, those things that make us terrified, those things that bring us joy”.
