Homosexuality in Religions:
Different religions have taken a wide range of perspectives on sexuality. Here, we explore some of the most well-known religions across the world.
Christianity
Christianity is one of the religions that has had the most conspicuous and outspoken perspectives on homosexuality. A letter from the Corinthians taken from the New Testament of the Bible briefly written about how some Christian divisions see sexuality: “Because of the temptation to sexual immorality, each man should have his own wife and each woman her own husband” (7:2).[ The Holy Bible: King James Version. Hendrickson Publishers, 2004.] Disregarding this, Christianity typifies a wide assortment of perspectives. There are numerous differing gatherings and people who have a place with the Christian confidence and they all have their own perspectives. For instance, the Pope, has views that are very different from his antecedents. Pope Francis has publicly expressed that he doesn't pass judgment on gay individuals if they keep up their faith, regardless of the Catholic Church's history of objection to homosexuality.

Edith M. Humphrey’s academic discussion papers on the Bible and human sexuality provide insight into the complex realm of interpretation, in regards to human sexuality—amidst 1st generation and 2nd generation Christians. Before results are revealed, Edith begins this series of academic papers with the emphasis on the Christian obligation to read the scriptures with thorough analysis and interpretation. When proper examination of the scripture is performed, the authoritative Word of God is revealed and becomes distinct from opinions based on current human experience, concern and determination. In both the Old Testament and New Testament, human sexuality is discussed, although sexuality can cause one to misinterpret the use of sexuality within
Helminiak provides an interesting discussion based on a reoccurring topic of interest, integration of sexuality and spirituality. Helminiak begins the paper establishing that the greatest undertaking was trying to define spirituality. He then proposed that sexuality would either foster or hinder one’s spiritual growth to the extent that if would affect the person’s sexual behaviors. Helminiak suggested that someone’s sexual behavior would essentially fall in accord with their chosen religious belief and ethical requirement as a means to enhance their relationship with God. The paper begins with the author providing
Many religious beliefs do not encourage homosexuality in fact it is severely discouraged for example in the Islamic faith they do not allow this because there is no doubt that in Islam homosexuality is considered 'sinful'. Homosexuality as far as Islam is concerned is a profound mistake (as are
Student athletes have two jobs to do when they are in college, one is to be an overall great student in the classroom, by maintaining a good grade point average, studying hard for any upcoming exams and pay close attention during class. Their other job is being a phenomenal player in the sport that they play. To do this you need to, work hard and attend every practice, study your playbook or any type of strategy, and to compete at the highest level. This is a lot to handle for a college student. There are over 460,000 student athletes in all of the divisions in the NCAA today. With this large number of student athletes it seems
The Hebrew Bible complicates its stance on homosexuality throughout its chapters. The Genesis account of Sodom illustrates how the Bible seemingly opposes homosexuality through its destruction of Sodom. However, the account of David and Jonathan contradicts this notion to suggest a homosexual dimension to their relationship. The text achieves this by mirroring their relationship to heterosexual relationships and by employing clothing imagery. Although the text does not explicitly state this relationship, the text’s language complicates the antihomosexuality in the story of Sodom.

There has been a new renewal in the Catholic Church since Argentina’s Bishop, Father Francis, became the new Pope. This renewal appears evident when listening to the Pope’s speech on homosexuality. Many of the world’s approximately one billion Catholics were shocked that he is taking a liberal stance in the Church and opening the Catholic community to these supposed sinners. However, it is important to consider why people still view Pope Francis as an open-minded Pope, especially since he has shown similar stances as his predecessors. This reaction to the Pope and interpretation of his stance as not fully opposing homosexuality is mostly due to the press defining Pope Francis as the “good” Pope and his predecessor as the “bad” one.
Human sexuality is a common phrase for all, and anything, pertaining to the feelings and behaviors of sex for the human race. Sexuality has been a topic that has been discussed and studied for as far back as 1000 years B.C. and is still being studied today. As the discussion of sexuality has progressed through history, theories have been created based on research and experiments that scholars have implemented, based on their own perceptions of human behavior. Out of the many theories that pose to explain sexual behavior, Sexuality Now explained ten that are seemed to be the most overlapped, and built off of theories. Of these theories, two that were discussed in the text were the behavioral and sociological theory. These two theories cover some of the basic ideas of what could possibly influence a person’s sexuality.

It is estimated that around 3.8 billion people in the world follow a religion that has either branched off of or has been significantly influenced by Judaism. Judaism is an ancient religion from the Middle East based off of the Hebrew Torah that teaches devotion to an all-powerful monotheistic God and the reality of an afterlife. Although only accounting for a tiny percent of the world’s religious followers, Judaism has had a greater impact on the world than any other religion in the history of mankind. The foundations of Judaism teach truths held by the world’s most prominent religions.
There are several religions which condemns the notion of homosexuality. Growing up in a Christian household I was taught that being homosexual is a sin in the sight of God. For example, in Jamaica my family practiced Pentecostal religion where they are very passionate about their traditions. There were unspoken beliefs that homosexuals were to be punished for their sexual practices. This belief followed me to the United States. Even though we went to a Baptist Church, the teachings were the same. I held on to this religious belief for many years and lived my life in a way that was conducive to my religion.
Religion is a major aspect on why society believes that homosexuality is wrong and should not be accepted. Individuals who are against the LGBT (Lesbian,
When I was younger, I used to played with Barbie dolls. Personally, I never understood the controversy with these dolls until one of my elementary friends pointed out to me the body shape of the doll. Since I am African American female I tried to purchase dolls that resemble me. Barbie fits a negative stereotype of a how an average American woman supposes to look like as you stated in your blog. You provided great evidences to prove the point of the whole blog. As an additional note, I would have like to see an image the new Barbie dolls compared to the old Barbie. Overall I truly appreciate the fact that you chose this topic to write about for your
Throughout history it is evident that human sexuality changes do to religious, governmental and societal influences. The perception of human sexuality has gone through many changes such as being very open and unlabeled activity; to being very “conservative” and a topic that shouldn’t be talked about in public or at all. In any case, human sexuality has always been a topic of interest because humans are sexual beings who want to understand the consciousness of themselves as male or female and see their personal response when encountered in erotic experiences with other individuals. Unlike many other species whose sexual force is strictly for reproduction, human’s sexual drive seems to be driven by many factors that intertwine with each other which leads to very different outcomes. Do to these obscure human emotions and personal gratification, sex is always shown every culture’s art, literature, social norms, and laws.
