They don’t use the space as often as they should. It is simple with large screen windows, a plain wooden cross, and unadorned altar at the front. They sing inside occasionally, but the campers often don’t care for the building, they find it oppressive. Carter pauses at the top of the hill. Surveying the camp spread out below him,
Charlie pulls the trigger and shoots the monster. As the group approaches the monster, the find out that it’s Pete Van Horn… and he’s dead. It “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street”, everything stops working and turns off. The people blame aliens and all turn against one another. The plot is not realistic in “The Monsters Are Due on Maple Street” because the car started by itself, the people blamed the power outage on aliens, and Charlie shoots Pete because he believes he’s a monster.
In 2014, I attended the Hero's journey summer program in hope to discover myself and to become a better man. My father who has attended the program many of times introduced me to the foundation and thought I should give it a try under the Young Men’s program with 8 other teens from around the world. Nervous but also excited about discovering who I truly was and what brotherhood really meant I found myself becoming the best of friends with these guys for 7 days. During the trip I learned that in relationships it is not only about how much you have in common, but that you trust each other and can work together as one. I could not tell you those guys last name or their favorite video game but I can tell you that I knew they had my back no matter what.
Small or big, everything we do in life is part of our journey. Reg Harris’ “The Hero’s Journey” describes the voyage one takes throughout life to grow and change as a person. He breaks the journey down into eight steps leading to the return. It starts out as a goal that isn’t always easy to reach, one goes through hardship and personal doubts only to succeed and become a better person. An example of this journey can be found in the movie, Troy through the character Achilles. Achilles is a strong fearless warrior in the movie, Troy who goes through “The Hero’s Journey” and ends up with a change of heart.

Is not weird how we all heroes that go through the same path? According to Joseph Campbell, once a philosopher, that brought the many ideas of how in way we all go through the hero’s journey. In addition, he believed going through a path that allowed us to face fears or our “dragons.” Therefore, after facing our “dragons,” we could then face the inevitable. Consequently, we lose a pieces of ourselves and as we enter another world, we lose our perspective of life.
The rest of the day passed by, Jayde showed her around and sat with her at lunch. So her worries of a disgusting bathroom disease or being a loner had been for nothing. Jayde, wow, she seemed so quiet but once she started talking she never shut up. She was so bubbly and unbelievably sweet, happy and carefree. It was hard not to be dragged into Jaydes mood, she was like a mirror, and she reflected everything she felt onto you.
What is a hero? What qualities does he or she have? The Hero’s journey, or in its more correct terminology the Monomyth is an object from the area of comparative mythology. Its definition in the most basic of forms, it is a pattern or outline that is used in storytelling, usually the myth. This pattern is found in many famous pieces from all around the world. In the book The Hero with a Thousand Faces from 1949 by author Joseph Campbell, this pattern is described in detail. Campbell describes that numerous myths from different times and areas of the world seem to share an identical structure in their storytelling. He summarized this with a well-known quote found at the intro of his book:
He frowns intently at the sign taped on the inside of the door. 'Family emergency', it says.
Dust flew up as my feet fell heavily onto the ground under the weight of the large bag of trash I was carrying. Angry words muttered their way out of my mouth under my breath. My friend walked beside me in the same circumstance. We were in the midst of summer camp, nearing the end, a seemingly uneventful week had passed. Soon the work around camp had begun to increase: throwing out trash, setting up a gateway, taking tents down, etc. IT'S the scoutmaster's job to delegate tasks to the scouts, however most of the work seemed to fall on me and a few others. We basically did just about every job in the camp eight times over WHILE others had barely moved a muscle. I decided to have a talk with my scoutmaster concerning how the work was being unfairly distributed. I sluggishly walked over to the adult area to find the scoutmaster reclined in his chair, his head
