Childhood obesity has been increasing over recent years (Atay & Bereket, 2016). Kings Fund (2016) has shown a link to the lower socio-economic areas. Furthermore, World Health Organization [WHO] (2016) has recognised childhood obesity as a public health issue. Childhood obesity is the contemporary public health issue that is going to be explored throughout this assignment. Epidemiology will justify the reasoning as to why childhood obesity is a public health issue. A health promotion initiative designed to target obesity and the population’s health and wellbeing will be evaluated using Tannahills Model of Health Promotion (Tannahill, 2008). In the short story “Sonny’s Blues” the author James Baldwin tells the story of two brothers reconnecting after years of soul searching. The story begins in media res where the narrator finds out his brother has been incarcerated due to a heroin addiction. The rising action begins when the narrator reads about Sonny in the paper. In which he finds out how difficult Sonny’s dug addicted life will be, through one of Sonny’s old friends. In time the narrator finally writes to Sonny after losing his young daughter Gracie, from this point on the two brothers stay in constant communication and reunite after Sonny’s release.
As high rates of drug used among aboriginals is linked to poverty, inability to cope, income, and education it is imperative to resolve the drug issue. In order to lower the rate of drug use among aboriginals, proper education must be disseminated. Creating a supportive environment is a strategy that can help in educating the aboriginals how to get out of poverty. As demonstrated in a study many interviews expressed the need to be educated about drugs, but expressed it should take in consideration their culture. This would also mean community immersion and understanding Aboriginals as a people, not just statistical facts (Theng & Al, 2013). The government and marketing campaigns in collaborations with the community health nurses can implement this strategy through various activities such as creating poster/pamphlets in Aboriginals languages; organizing cost free informative sessions in their locale to help them cope better in their everyday life. An approach helps the promoter to make decisions on how they will approach the clients in giving the information needed for that certain approach (Naidoo & Wills, 2004). An approach will “determine the diversity in concept of health, influence of health and ways of measuring health lead” (Naidoo & Wills, 2004). Each approaches have different aims, methods and means of evaluation as well as different objectives on preventing diseases (Ewles & Simnet, 2003), ensuring the people or clients are well informed and are able to make their own health choice, help the client to acquire their own skill and confidence to “take greater control over their health” (Naidoo & Wills, 2004) and to be able to change policies and environments in order to facilitate healthy choices (Naidoo & Wills, 2004).

In this article, the author discussed that health system and health services should play a more active role in addressing social determinants of health by adapting an expanded population health model and embracing health equity perspective. This article is distinct because it conveyed that improving the health of the population tends to conflict with reducing health inequalities. I know from studying the article that this group of people is made up of multiple cultures and a diverse sect of people. It has been established that even though this group of people share some similarities in heritage, cultures, and traditions; there are still some differences that makes it difficult to group these people under one large umbrella. When developing a Health Promotions Program, each one of the different cultures must be considered and represented. In an example provided by the CDC a group implemented a Head Start program in a low income community. When the group first meet to make plans for the Head Start, their first meeting included Community Leaders, Health Mangers, Family Services Leaders, and participating families (Herman, Nelson, Teutsch, and Chung, 2013). Using this a model, the Healthcare Educator should distinguish the different courses. I would then solicit for representatives from each of cultures to represent during the planing phrase. One of the many responsibilities of representative would be to bring the concerns of the people to the planning committee. Not only would the representative be great for providing input, but could give the Healthcare Educator incite into how the group perceives themselves.
