In 1904 London Daily Mirror challenged Houdini to escape from a mirror handcuff, a handcuff that took a blacksmith five years to make, his escape took him over an hour and made mainline attention. Harry always had copycat magicians had to make his escapes new. To keep his escapes fresh he started doing them outdoors such as being hung in 100 feet in the air in a strait jacket and jumping into a river from a bridge while being chained up. Houdini continued accepting challenges from police and escaped from the “inescapable” Siberian Transport Prison Van. Eventually Harry returned to the U.S, he then was challenged to escape the Murderers Row jail cell that held president assassin Charles Guiteau. He was checked then locked up and the guard walked out, Harry escaped immediately and then went to the warden’s office to tell him he let all the prisoners out too, but put them in different cells. Harry started acting in films, were he would be the hero and escape from villains traps. In 1908 Harry starts his own signature escape, the Milk Can Escape. This would put Houdini in a sealed three gallon milk can filled with water, while being chained up. Houdini would encourage the audience to hold his breath with him, to act the sense of death to the escape. Harry soon became fascinated in planes and on March 18, 1910 Harry Houdini becomes the first man to fly a plane in Australia, Harry thought this is what he would be known for. Eventually imitator escape artists found out how to accomplish it so HArry had to come up with a new escape. The Chinese Water Torture escape became known for Harry’s must known escape. This would require Houdini to

But he later escaped from jail and was on the loose. They finally tracked him down after he escaped and was arrested once again in Boston(H.H.Holmes 3). When Holmes was arrested the second time he admitted to the fraud and then was shipped to Philadelphia PA (Larson 2). Holmes was put through several trials until he finally admitted to the crimes he committed. On March 9,1896 Holmes was convicted to be killed after confessing his crimes at the trial (Benzkofer 3). He died on May 7, 1896 after being hanged to his death(Benzkofer 4). After Holmes death, his “Murder Castle” was remodeled into a tourist attraction called “Holmes Horror Castle”. Currently, some people are curious about how Harry Houdini passed away. Was his death natural, or did someone want him dead? One possibility of Harry Houdini’s death is that he simply got punched in the stomach. Eric Jill from Snopes writes,
Harry Houdini is a name that will forever be remembered as “The Great Escape Artist.” Harry Houdini was born to the name of Ehrich Weisz on March 24, 1874. He was born in Budapest, Hungary. His mother was Cecilia Weisz and his father, Rabbi Mayer Samuel Weisz. His mother had six children, Houdini was the fourth child, and Rabbi Mayer also had a child from a previous marriage. Rabbi Mayer emigrated from Hungary to the United States because conditions started to look bad for the Jews in Eastern Europe. When Houdini was about four years old Cecilia and the children soon followed Mayer to America. (Shelly Schwartz)
He had ups; he had downs, but his life never failed to amaze anyone. He lived every single day like it was his last, no regrets. People would push through large crowds just to get a glimpse at one of his life threatening stunts. “Others have been killed trying to duplicate his feats, but Houdini thrived on danger. On occasion, escapes left him mangled, bruised, bloody, even broken” (Cary). Houdini gave his all in everything he did. Whether it was entertaining the crowds, learning new ways to escape chains, or even showing love to his beautiful wife Bess; Houdini pushed the limits. He made the world look at magic as not just an act, but a
At the outset, often times when individuals are determined to uncover the many layers of the world, and an individual’s environment, the response or the obstacles they may need to overcome, may be displeasing or even hazardous. In the short story, “Under the Pyramid”, the curiosity of Harry Houdini to discover the secret passages of Egypt and befriend individuals he never previously known about, unfortunately led to his kidnapping. Despite the fact that this whole event was a mere dream, the consequence of not bearing in mind the limits to how much an individual can explore, in reality could have resulted in his death. Houdini, was clearly being oblivious, and was preoccupied by the forbidden areas of Egypt, that he did not take in consideration the curious, strange

Houdini got famous because he did tricks that look impossible and scary to see a human being could do. Also he got more famous because he was in a movie. What Houdini did illusion to look imposible to the human being eye, it look impossible because this was in 1874 they didn't have technology so they thought this look impossible. And how Houdini stayed famous by doing stuff that his copy cat try to do. And he was doing this because people wanted to be him so he had to outsmart the other catfish/ copy cats. So what his trick was Milk can escape and it was to hold his breath under milk. And the people were confused because he was holding his breath for two minutes and 45 second almost making it at three. And with that he stayed on the headlines
I think that Mr. Bingley most relates to the fairy tale character prince Eric from the movie the little mermaid. Both of these characters lived a very relaxed life off of the wealth of their family. Both of these characters were interested in people who were well below their social class, Eric fell for Ariel (a mermaid with wealth yes, but not "human" wealth, thus putting her in a low "social class" in my opinion), and Bingley fell for Jane Bennet. As the men weren’t raised to pick up on hints very well, they do not get the message from the women. In the end they both end up returning to their respective women. The character that I chose next not surprisingly is Ariel. I think that she most relates to Lydia Bennet. Both of the characters are
The first recorded magic trick was a simple ball and cup act in 2500 BCE in Egypt. Since then millions of people have practiced and mastered the art of magic. Even though millions of people have tried only a handful of them were able to leave their mark big enough for everyone to know them. Some of the greatest magicians of all time include The Great Lafayette, Harry Houdini, and Apollo Robbin.
