Nick Kraemer 5/10/17 Harry Houdini Thesis Harry houdini was an amazing entertainer, escapist, and magician. He set the standard for magic for all future magicians. Early Life Erik Weisz (Harry Houdini) was born in 1874. He was born in Budapest Hungary to a Jewish family. In 1878 Erik Weisz and his family left Austria-Hungary and sailed to America on the SS Fresia when he was only 4. In America the Weisz family changed their names. Erik Weisz was changed to Ehrich Weiss. In 1883 at age 9 Ehrich went to work for his family and he did his first performance. He was the youngest trapeze performer. When Ehrich was 12 he went to New York with his dad to make money for his family. Young Adulthood and Marriage When Ehrich was 17 he read the book Memoirs of Robert-Houdin. This …show more content…

In the trick he made a massive 2,000 pound animal disappear into thin air.In my opinion it was one of the coolest tricks he ever did. Defining moment Harry houdini didn’t have just one defining moment, he had many. Getting married was definitely a huge moment for harry. Harry was always constantly setting the bar for future magicians. Death A couple of days before Harry's death he was in Canada for a performance. Before the last show, some kids were behind stage visiting and Harry told them he could withstand any punch to the stomach. One of the kids caught him off guard and hit him multiple times in the stomach before he was ready. Later it was discovered that this was what caused Harry's appendix to explode and it caused his death. On October 31st, 1926 Harry Houdini died in Detroit, Michigan. Historical Impact Harry Houdini is considered to be one of the most influential magicians of all time. Harry houdini proved that anyone can achieve their dreams.
