What is mankind? This is a question that philosophy has yet to answer. Many philosophers have spent their life in search of answers to these questions dying before finding a suitable answer. The character Hamlet from Shakespeare’s tragedy Hamlet explores these questions, seeking truth and understanding as he tries to come to grips with his uncle killing his father. In the end, Hamlet proves his point and becomes a very existential character. Prince Hamlet returns home the university he is studying at when his father, the King of Denmark, is killed. Hamlet's anxiety and tension cause him to doubt the power to solve his problems. Perhaps this is the reason for Hamlet’s madness, he realizes that he lacks the emotions to avenge his father's death. However, through his emotions, Hamlet is careful to avoid the temptation to commit suicide. To Hamlet suicide was morally wrong. By making the decision to stay alive Hamlet must fight Claudius' corruption. Through this Hamlet demonstrates existential qualities. From this point on Hamlet is struggles with his own inaction on not killing Claudius even though he knows of his guilt. Hamlet has a very good reason to kill Claudius, even though at this point he doesn’t do it. From this point on, Hamlet declares that he has bad or bloody thoughts. Hamlet finally seeks vengeance on his father’s death. However this is only after he sees his mother and Ophelia die. Hamlet realized that he only had a short time to live and he really had nothing to lose. That is when he made his move to stab and poison
