Black bears and Grizzly bears live in the Rocky Mountains, Alaska, and Canada. There are over 600,000 black bears in North America and thousands of Grizzly bears. The bears are out there. Anytime that you are spending time in bear country it is important that you know how to be safe and to keep your children safe.
The good news is that, as a National Park brochure states, bears will usually move out of your way if they hear you. This does not mean you will never come across a bear on a trail, but hopefully by following the suggestions here you will be safe and the bears will be safe.
Make Noise - Anytime you are outside away from your car you should make noise. The reason to do this is to simply let any bears in the area know that you are there

Just realize though that a bell by itself does not make enough noise. With kids it is always fun to try to sing some short songs that everyone knows. That will keep everyone happy and entertained on the trail as well as keeping you safe.
Another idea is to clap every now and then and loudly say, 'hey bear' or things like that. If a bear hears you coming, then it will likely leave since it does not want to have an encounter with you just as much as you don't want to surprise a bear.
It is especially important to make noise when you come to a part of the trail where you can not see ahead of you, such as going around a bend in the trail or up or down a hill. Other times to be extra aware are when approaching streams, and in dense vegetation.
Never Feed Bears - This only puts you in a potentially dangerous situation and could make the bear more dangerous by getting it used to approaching people for food.
Stay Alert - Pay attention to the direction of the wind. If the wind is coming at you, so that you are hiking into the wind, a bear that is upwind of you on the trail could not smell you and know that you are coming. Be extra alert at those times and make
n the book, Seekers Great Bear Lake, Erin Hunter tells a story of three young bears-one black, polar, and grizzly-and a puzzling shape-shifting bear each are following a path towards a mystical destination. But then encounter the divine Great Bear Lake. Together the four bears help each other to survive the harsh attacks from other aggressive bears and the scarcity of food they find among the wild. Later on, the three bears separated to go to their own sleuths, but soon after they separated they united together once again along with Kallik the polar Lusa the black bear. It’s only after that Toklo the grizzly bear accepts other bears like Lusa the black bear and Ujurak the shape-shifting bear to join along with them to their trip to the mystical
In 1997, while bow hunting in the Ocala National Forest. I saw two large male bears eating grubs and one of them caught and begun to eat a Cotton Tail rabbit. They were approximately ½ mile from each other. It seemed like the very second that the bear with the rabbit tore it apart, I saw the other bear lift his nose to the air and was at a full run and was to the other bear within a minute. The first bear was bigger, but the second bear seemed to be hungrier and quickly took the remains of the rabbit away and out of sight. Thinking that it was a waste of time to remain in the area I returned to my jeep to head back to camp and get some lunch for myself. Upon reaching the logging road that lead to my jeep, I found large bear prints within my
Unfortunately, about twelve bears are killed annually while traveling to hibernation spots for the winter. After the bear comes out of hibernation, they will eat anything for food, because they are so extraordinarily hungry. (animals) The bear's hibernation spot depends on the weather, it can be under tree roots, in a cave, or even in a hollow tree based on how
1)Wolf packs do not like to stay in one spot. They move up to 12 miles a day.
Amy Latour lived a controversial life. She had 2 boyfriends, a maid, a canary, and her own murder on her hand. We have reason to suspect that her maid, Celeste has been the murderer, and using the evidence at the crime scene we can prove it.
The New Jersey Fish and Game Council have come up with a management strategy to handle the bear problem but the most effective way those far appears to be hunting the bears. In the early 2000s bear hunting was illegal and many people were against legalizing it again. In order to compromise a bear hunting season was passed which was started in the beginning of December and held concurrently with the state's six-day firearm deer hunting season. “Bear hunting zones include large sections of Morris, Sussex, Warren, and northern Passaic counties, plus smaller areas of Hunterdon, Somerset and Bergen counties. There is a limit of one bear per licensed and registered hunter.” This method of black bear population management was and is still successful. In 2003 and 2005 the success was based on “1) the target harvests were obtained; 2) the seasons were conducted safely with no hunter accidents and without incident of trespassing or other complaints; and 3) biological data on bears, hunter success and hunter participation was
Bear hunting is an extremely dangerous activity for one to partake in. There are many precautions one must take in order to successfully kill a bear. Although bears are typically calm creatures they can become extremely aggressive and dangerous if threatened. Therefore, one must be aware of their surroundings at all times and ready for any encounter. Normally bears are baited using some kind of container cut open with fruit and other strong smelling foods to draw the bears in. Though dangerous bear hunting does also provide a considerable amount of food for a family. Those you hunt typically do so in order to obtain the meat from the animal. A typical black bear weighs about 240 pounds on average. Though not all of that weight is eatable much of it
bears did not become this way without people’s help" (Holland n.p.). What this is saying is that people are interacting with bears do not know what can take place. The reason why they can’t reach out to bears is because they if this keeps on happening then it will become a second nature for bears just to come up to people without meaning to scare them. People are the ones teaching bears not to be afraid of them. They should be the ones enduring criticism for making the bears look fatal when it is their
Bears only attack when agitated, so keeping a bear calm, and at a distance will give the best viewing opportunities
In order to protect both humans and animals, the park rangers ensure tourists understand and follow the necessary safety precautions. To prevent animals from invading campgrounds, it is advised that campers store their food at least 5 metres above the ground, where animals cannot access it. It is of paramount importance that campers dispose of any rubbish in the bear-proof bins provided in the camp. Food odours attract bears and must be kept away from the camp. Although extremely rare, attacks have occurred, inflicting serious injury and death. If you do come into contact with dangerous wildlife, park rangers recommend the following actions: If you see a bear, stay at least 45 metres away from it. If a bear approaches you, you mustn’t play
Funny thing about camping in Yosemite for years with my family. Every time we invited a family to camp with us, they all responded while sitting around the camp fire, with the same statement. "There are no bears in Yosemite"! Some how in their own minds they seemed to think their statement would keep them away. Or they wanted reassurance from us there weren't any. We have had several encounters with them in our camp, but the Rangers have mostly contained them. Trouble is, what Yosemite are you talking about? Yosemite Valley where most of the camping is, or Yosemite National Park.
Growing up in Alaska certainly taught me how to live peacefully with the bear minimum in life. Hauling water from a creek in the back of my house, using an outhouse in fifty below zero weather, and above all, living for almost nine months with an extreme lack of sunlight. When I lived in Alaska I treasured the beautiful yet short summer months that seemed to come and go with such swiftness. The difference in weather and amount of sunlight that I got to enjoy was just as drastic as my mood in the wintertime compared to the summer. In the summer life seemed remarkably pleasurable, I was happier with my appearance, and I worried much less about petty obstacles that I was confronted with. Unlike in the wintertime when every little thing
Throughout history, Europe has been more advanced and developed than much of world Europeans took many voyages to spread their knowledge and gain power in the world. They began to colonize in almost every part of the world, beginning with the Americas. They eventually lost most of their control there and moved on. It soon became all of the west that was colonized in the east, which lead to imperialism. Similar to many other events in history, colonization and imperialism are very polarizing. There were two opposite sides and, like much of history, one side wasn’t really considered. The people who lived in the countries being colonized didn’t ask the westerners to take control of their country. The native people were mostly opposed to imperialism,
Bear is a true carnivore, but if not prevented the black bear could be a huge problem to humans.
Globalization which is defined as the process which breaks down the barrier of geography, legality and politics among countries (Scholte, 2002, cited in Baburajan, 2011) has become a fashionable term of recent decades. It enables people worldwide to experience the unprecedented changes in various aspects of their life, varying from study to entertainment. This immediate prevalence of globalization plays an increasingly vital role in higher education and creates opportunities for people to continue taking advanced studies (Altbach, 2004). Altbach (2004) points out that it is inevitable that globalization will have some effects on higher education due to the rapid development of economy, technology as well as science. In order to survive
