During our fourth lesson on caring for goldfish, we were able to achieve the intended lesson objectives based on student responses, behaviors, anecdotal notes, journal entries, and teacher observations. I wrote and taught this lesson, while Ms. Meaghan was in charge of running one observation station. She also took anecdotal notes about student responses and quotes during the opening and closing of the lesson. This lesson was about caring for goldfish, and therefore, required the use of goldfish to conduct the lesson effectively. Since the classroom teaching informed me that the goldfish died, I bought six more and two aquariums for the purpose of this lesson. This lesson required a lot of materials and preparation, but as a result of the …show more content…
In order to determine if the entire class was able to reach the objective, Ms. Meaghan and I took anecdotal notes during our observation groups about student’s observations and quotes about each basic need. In each group, each student was assigned a job, which was described on each card. Their jobs related to providing the goldfish with their basic needs for survival. Three students in each group were feeders, four students were planters, and four were water changers (two added water and two replaced). The feeders each received a piece of scrap paper with some food on it, and each student took turns feeding the fish. The planters each put a sprig of elodea in the tank to create shelter. The two water removers, each took a small Dixie cup of “dirty” water out of the tank, and the two water adders, put one small Dixie cup of conditioned water into the tank. Through their work in their small group, the students were able to develop an understanding of each need of goldfish, and understand how to provide it. They were able to have a chance to actually provide the
This lab was conducted with the purpose of confirming the trait of homeostasis among goldfish. During the experiment, it was recorded that the fish would increase gill movement when placed in colder water two out of the three trials. However, the results showed no significant difference in gill movement in various temperatures of water. This has very little effect on the broad field of science since our only three trials were performed and may have included human error in the trials.
However, there were only 24 bears in total, and in addition, the children were only supposed to practice numbers 1-10. After explaining to her that she could not count 40, she ignored me and continued to try anyway. I attempted to use reinforcement methods, by telling her that she has to follow instructions, although, she remained resistant. She began playing with the timer, informing me that she wanted more time by changing the clock to 15 minutes, instead of 10. I told her that she would have to leave the room and join the rest of the class if she did not cooperate appropriately. This event caught me off guard, causing me to feel uncomfortable because as a teaching assistant there is only so much one can do/authority I have. During that moment, I felt hopeless because of the mutual respect that has been established in the relationships I have developed. However, all because one child had the tendency to refuse from listening to instructions and wanted to do things her way, had caused me to be
My critter is fish. The name of the fish is called the Goldfish Saurus meaning it is half dinosaur and half guppy. This type of fish is a hunting fish, it mainly eats and kills tiny animals. It lives in the deep seas of the Pacific Oceans. The Goldfish Saurus hibernate for half a year, it likes to sleep in little burrows of seaweed. The Goldfish Saurus eats small fish and baby octopi and squids that is smaller than itself. It kills its prey by using the scaly fins on top of his back to directly jab its opponent. For self defence the Goldfish Saurus The tail of the Goldfish Saurus is very strong and its function is to move forward in upward swimming strokes. This kind of fish moves pretty quickly and catches its prey instantly. The Goldfish
This lesson was geared toward many levels of learning ability and a variety of learning styles. Mrs. Soglin modeled the learning objective with the pan balance using the visual aid with the scale and a variety of different objects to be weighed. Then she provided additional information using the chalkboard. She engaged with the class by having an open discussion allowing the students to build on each other’s knowledge of the subject matter. She allowed for students to model for the class. When students were working in groups and pairs the higher level students helped lower level students. She also provided challenging problems at the end of the activity for those students who were ready and
The purpose of this lab is to analysis goldfish an ectothermic animal affect toward different temperature ranges. The reactions toward the temperatures are taken upon the term of homeostasis, which is regulation for organisms to maintain a steady state while adapting to the conditions that are favorable for survival (Encyclopedia Britannica). In order to achieve a successful homeostasis, many animals use different methods of thermoregulation, which helps maintain the internal temperature of animals. Many methods vary whether the organisms is an endotherm or ectoderm. An endotherm, which includes mammals and birds, is a warm-blooded animal, which maintains a constant body temperature not influenced by the environment (Britannica).
When I completed this lesson I actually felt I should re-think my decision to become an educator. Mrs. Anderson makes this job look easy. I had prepared my science lesson plan Monday and scheduled to start a 3-day lesson on Wednesday. I tried to keep my lesson close to the basal/textbook. I feel as though the students responded positively. They were responsible in raising their hands to answer questions. I had a note to “slow down” in my notes. This helped me pace my lesson appropriately. I felt confident….and then I did not! HOWEVER, this time I did not speed up my speaking and rush through the lesson as quickly as possible. I added a few examples that were not on my plan with the hopes to explain matter to the students and I believe that helped one or two students. I felt, as a class, we stayed on topic the entire class. There were a
f you leave something you love very much. And you cannot have it no more. If you had to leave it and it could never be the same without it. You had to live your life as if that something that you loved was never there. When you leave something that you love its like leaving a piece of you behind that you charish.
At the conclusion of the experiment, the two hypotheses were reviewed. Because the water temperature did affect the normal respiration patterns of the goldfish, the null hypothesis was disregarded and the alternative hypothesis was accepted. From the results of this experiment, it was concluded that although other environmental factors could play
Goldfish kept in homes usually don't lives five years. Considering that he lived to be 41 years old, Fred is the oldest goldfish on record. Mr. Wilson, Fred's owner, must have made a special point of taking care of his fishbowl per and giving it lots of attention. He changed Fred's water and cleaned Fred's fishbowl regularly. I wonder if Mister Wilson talked to Fred, too. Don't you wonder what Fred
Unit 1 ties into the theme of tolerance and the acceptance of others, as Barbara Jordan said it, “We, as human beings, must be willing to accept people who are different from ourselves”. Whether it was the short story What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish? Or the newspaper editorial The American Flag Stands For Tolerance, the pieces dive into and explore the issues of acceptance among others.
The world should be an accepting place. A place where people do not discriminate, hate, or judge others because of their differences and beliefs. Sometimes in life there are situations where not everyone is accepting, and it can lead to conflict or even tragedy. The texts, “What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?” by Etgar Keret, “Texas v. Johnson Majority Opinion” by William J. Brennan, and “American Flag Stands for Tolerance” by Ronald J. Allen, are mostly characterized by the essence of acceptance.
Being understanding and accepting of others can’t be useful in establishing positive relationships with those that are different from us. I the short story “What of This Goldfish, Would you Wish?” by Etgar Keret, the characters show how they do and do not accept people who are different. In the short story “ the wife's story” by Ursla k. Le Guin, the characters reveal that they're not accepting of people who are different than them. Lastly in from texas v.s johnson a majority court opinion by William J. Brennan, there are examples of acceptance of those who are different.
Many different works of literature show us the best and worst parts of all of us, not as individuals but as a collective “people”. Many of these show the relationships we have with each other, and how they define us. This is evident in the short story “What, of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?” written by Etgar Keret, the short story “The Lottery” by Shirley Jackson, and the poem “Without Title” by Diane Glancy. All of the works express what our relationships with other people could become.
The stories, “The Monkey’s Paw” and “What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish,” are both based on the idea of what someone would do with three wishes. “The Monkey’s Paw” is a short story based on a family which acquires a monkey’s paw that is magical. In the end, it causes many problems for the family. “What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish” is a legend about an Israeli boy,Yoni, who is shooting a documentary about what would people wish for if they had a magic goldfish who grants three wishes. One of the interviews goes wrong, and Yoni is killed, but he comes back to life because of a wish granted by a magic goldfish. Although the stories, “The Monkey’s Paw,” by W.W. Jacobs, and “What, of this Goldfish, Would You Wish,” by Etgar Keret, have different settings and the last wished used are contrasting, the magic talisman grants three wishes in both stories.
It is usually a challenge to choose between the devil and the deep blue sea. Ordinarily, one has to consider one’s values as well as preferred consequences in order to make the better or best choice. In the short story, “What of This Goldfish, Would You Wish?” by Etgar Keret, Sergei Goralick faced a similar conundrum. As an aloof Russian expatriate fisherman in Jaffa, Israel, his only company is a magic three wish-granting fish. But having impulsively murdered Yonatan, Goralick had to decide whether to use his last wish to save the boy or keep his magic goldfish companion. Though he would have preferred the latter, Goralick made the better choice saving Yonatan as it matches his established humaneness and the consequences attached were more reasonable.
