I think that good character is very important in life because it shows who you are as a person, how you carry yourself as a person and how you treat other people. Having good character is what I believe you need to be successful in life, having good character can cause you to get a good job, possibly getting a raise in your job, making friends and just doing the right thing in general.

Athletes, business men, and Musicians all show as much Good character as possible to be successful. People all over the world at schools and in every day lives talk about and show good character. Good character practices has been going around the world, even when Abraham Lincoln was alive. Abraham Lincoln said, "Reputation is the shadow. Character is the tree." The definition of character is "The aggregate of features and traits that form the individual nature of some person or thing." Good character can be expressed by role models, can be helpful in a career, and promotes and encourages leadership.

Character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual, though morality is subjective, in today’s society it is predominantly agreed upon that someone who is of good character has certain qualities that contribute to their decision making, trustworthiness, and intelligence. I previously mentioned prudence, which is the ability to govern oneself by the use of reason to make good judgements that allow you to avoid troublesome situations, which allows one to face the adversities of life while only encountering necessary risks. According to google, the definition of character is the mental and moral qualities distinctive to an individual. As much as I agree with the general perspective of the word, I see it as much broader. I see character as what makes up a whole person. Character is different for everyone, it’s what makes us diverse. Maintaining good character will preserve the good qualities and attributes an individual acquires. Throughout my life and my still growing experience, I have possessed and gained many characteristics that have shaped who I am today. Respect could be hard to come by and that is because sometimes people let their emotions get in the way of their respect towards that person or persons. This can be a problem because a person should not let their emotions prevent them from acting the way they should and showing someone the respect that person deserves. Some may have a difference of opinion and still show respect towards someone in order to be thought highly of or to avoid a problem from stirring. Character is a special attribute everyone can acquire. It does not matter how smart you are, how good you look, or how popular you are. Character is a certain trait that shows what kind of person you are. To have great character is a tremendous gift that not a lot of people have, but that is mainly from lack of trying. Achieving character can be an easy and harmless task that makes you feel good about yourself. Actions such as holding the door open for people, helping people in school, or taking lead to guide those that do not know where they are going can show character. One of the most important tasks that teachers have as educators is to teach students about the importance of respect. For elementary students, respect can be defined as how a student treats another student or how one feels about another student. It is imperative for students to know that they can have respect for each other, as well as for themselves. Teaching respect at such a young age can be as simple as the teacher modeling what respect is and why it is important to respect one another. By the time students reach sixth grade, they will be able to not only respect each other's viewpoints, but understand the reasons behind them.
