Catholicism is a religion based upon the commandments instilled by Jesus Christ Son of God. The final three crusades were uncontrolled by the pope and led to rape, theft, pillaging, a dark past that has shaped the future of Catholicism today. The Roman Catholic crusades where Catholic wars started to try and regain control over Jerusalem (the holy land), and to expand the religion, the final three crusades however derived from the initial purpose and led to destruction. The purpose of the research I have done over Roman Catholic Crusades is to get a deeper understanding as to why the Catholic leaders used Crusades to expand their religious beliefs and the outcomes both good and bad of the crusades. The crusades where intended to spread Christianity Universally. However many of the actions during the crusades did not promote peace as they where intended (William J.). Many Europeans feeling the need to join the cause in crusades, joined the cause with nothing but wooden crosses, many people abandoned their homes to join on the journey. Crusades left many people dead in the Middle East. Jerusalem being the major goal of conquest of the crusaders in the end many of the crusades failed or simply turned back (Brown, Bryan). Europeans used Crusades to expand Christianity. The Crusades where considered unsuccessful. Many of them brought tragedy to local Christians, which was part of the reason of the failure in the crusades. The crusades however did leave some practices instilled in the later religions that where to be made. Through these crusades a lot of the new religions adapted practices that are now influential in there religious practices (William E.). Emilie Gogalak gives us an interesting out look of how crusades brought together many faiths. She also gives us a belief that maybe the crusades where not sparked for religious beliefs but simply for power and money (Emilie
