FOCUS 2 was a great computer program to help continue my career journey. My career planning readiness results seemed to fit in where I am at in my life. My score was a 3.67, this indicates that I am moderately involved in my interests, values, personality and skills. Agreeing with this because I have been not only trying to figure out who I am as an adult but also making life changes. Although having a clear understanding on these topics, career exploration and career planning satisfaction were both low threes in scores. For example, my career planning score suggested that I may be experiencing some problems with planning. By writing this paper it has immensely helped clear my perspective on where I am and where I should be.

In order for me to complete this career assessment paper, I initially took an Interest Inventory survey. Upon completing this process, it revealed that my personality profile score was (I, C, A). These three letters represented my strengths and interests in determining which career field would best suit me.

My business experiences have helped me decide why I wanted to pursue a degree in accounting. At a young age, I have always had an interest in math and the way money works in the economy. Being able to speak Spanish and English has also shaped my interests in the business industry.

In this class, we have one multiple career cruising worksheets and have explored many different jobs. These sheets are included in my portfolio because this shows my potential jobs that I want to pursue in the future. Also, this shows that I have goals for the future.

In this module, we asked you to explore and research careers associated with your intended major. As part of this research, we would like you to identify the education and training requirements, job opportunity information, salary information, and benefit expectations for possible career paths. There was some technical difficulties Tuesday night, so I couldn’t make it to class. Sounds like you had some trouble too! This week we are wrapping up a unit with a unit exam, a writing assignment, and a quiz. The writing assignment is about our possible career choices, we must include four. This new unit is about career exploration, there are many, many careers to choose from. There is a career options worksheet in the dropbox and reading. The four careers we chose can be completely different or similar. There’s many sources we can utilize, websites are the best place for quick and good information. Thinking back to the beginning of this course, I remember not knowing what I wanted to be when I left High school, due to the abundance of careers I wanted to get into. After looking at a magnitude of careers and exploring my skills through various personality quizzes, I learned that not every job is best suited for me and it has greatly helped me limit and zone in on my choices. Through programs such as myBlueprint and career cruising, I was able to identify my skills along with my strengths and weaknesses so that I had a better understanding of what field I should go into. For example, when I learned that I was interpersonal and that I am an INFP (introversion, intuition, feeling, perceiving) individual, it helped me realize that I wanted to go into the social sciences so that I can help people out. It is one of the reasons as to why I decided to do my culminating research on criminology. The What Am I booklets gave me a vague idea of what type of person I was and by doing do I was able to eliminate the careers that fell into the other categories. For example, since I’m Helper-Thinker, I was able to rule out jobs such as Electrician and Lawyer because they didn’t fall under this category and most likely wouldn’t be suitable for an individual like myself. I still have not declared a major, but one major I am interested in is accounting. Accounting is the practice of recording and analyzing financial records and transactions to an organization, agency, or individual. Getting a job in the accounting field would be wise because it is a field that is high in demand and will continue to become bigger. Also different companies give you plenty of opportunities to move up from an entry level position to an executive position. Most assume with an accounting degree all you can be is an accountant. But with an accounting degree you could have various jobs including an auditor, budget analyst, financial manager, school teacher, insurance sales agent, real estate broker, and many others. The most common career though, that uses an accounting degree, is an accountant.

A college degree has always been one of my ambitions, but in one way or another, I allowed life circumstances to stop this path. After many years of contemplating, I decided to pursue an accounting degree program, because of the experience I obtained throughout the years, and the knowledge I have acquired. I have worked for the federal Government over the past 20 years performing procurement, budget, and financial management and accounting responsibilities. I have found that the financial management and accounting fields have been interesting and rewarding, in many ways, in my life experiences. As an accounting major, it is kind of odd that this is the most I’ve actually researched possible careers in accounting. But through my research, I’ve found many different possible careers that my degree could get me. There were dozens ranging from jobs that required an associate’s degree in accounting, all the way to careers that required a master’s degree in accounting, as well as certificates that closely relate to them, and they paid anywhere from $30,000 to over $100,000. To be completely honest, there were times when I wondered why companies need an entire different division for accounting, but after seeing just how many different jobs there were in the field, things started to make a bit more sense.

Throughout my academic career I have been asked to take many different forms of questionnaire programs that will interpret my answers and provide the best career for me. For this assignment I was asked to take the Focus 2 assessment and further assess the career I might want to explore during my years as a college student. Although for some students Focus 2 and other applications similar to it, might be helpful in discovering what they want to do, I do not place much emphasis on these results.

Business is a field abundant with jobs. Entering the field of business almost guarantees a career. The reason to choose business is because business is a wide field and someone can go into many different areas. Accounting is a splendid area to go into. An excellent choice for higher education would be Louisiana College’s (LC) business program in Pineville, Louisiana. The most interesting area of business that I would want to pursue as a career is accounting. In high school, I had the opportunity to take several business classes through our career technical education program, but the accounting courses especially sparked my interest as I began to understand the content and excel in it. I enjoyed using my math skills and seeing the transfer of money in different situations. With excellent instructors that gave me a passion for the subject, I knew that accounting was right for me. Even though there were many career options in the world of accounting and auditing for me to choose from, such as public accounting, managerial accounting, and internal/external auditing, forensic accounting seemed like a perfect fit.
