The piece of data that surprised me the most was that over 400 million people around the world practiced indigenous religions. I was extremely surprised by this number because as a person who lives in the United States everyone I encounter is affiliated with a majorly known and practiced religion whether it be Christianity, Islam, or Hinduism. With the world in constant globalization I personally assumed that the statistic for indigenous religions would decrease. Another reason could also be that I have a very minimal amount of knowledge pertaining to traditional religions and their relevance in modernized time.

Looking at wars in history one may question the ability to avoid such casualties and destruction that occurred. Such as the civil war where American’s fought American’s seizing to destroy each other even though both had worked hard to overcome Britain’s monarchy and develop the free nation. The American flag is one of the most recognizable symbols this country has today. As children, we learn in school to cross our heart with our right hand and recite the pledge of allegiance to the United States of America, while facing the flag, a beloved symbol. As a soldier in the United States Army, I proudly wear a flag as a part of my Army Combat Uniform (ACU). It is worn by soldiers like me to show the love of country, honor and commitment to this great nation. The Canadian Flag features a red field with a large white square in the middle. Within that white square is an 11 pointed red maple leaf. The red on the Canadian flag represents those who sacrificed their lives during our two world wars. Also, in 1921, King George V declared red and white as the official national colours of Canada. Our red maple leaf is the only symbol on our flag. This maple leaf was apart of George Stanley’s concept of our modern flag as it was very similar to the flag of the Royal Military College of Canada.
