Explanatory Essay
Throughout the first quarter of our freshman year in english class, we have been working toward the goal to showcase our identity-both the assumption and the genuine-in a writing piece to answer the essential question- Who are you?. Finally, after weeks of practices with imitation writing rough drafts, and examining excellent pieces of mentor text, I have composed my final product—titled “What’s within me.” In my writing, my main focus of the topic was my authentic identity, rather than the assumption of identity what was made about me. I wrote about how “me” as the person, are differentiated into two— “anima”- The inner consciousness of mine, which is the one that I view myself as being my authentic identity. With the

The other tool I have used was sensory detail. The senses in my writing concern mainly with the sight. For example, “I’m in the wandering back, as the third person-view in my solitude./Yet coincided, to be my own reality, for I who think of chimera.” (stanza 2, line 2 and 3). This gives the sense of me being in a third-person view as it is my way of perception, but it slightly deviates from what a normal sensory detail may be. However, I have purposely left it as it is with the intent to create the melancholy tone that I have. By just writing [in the wandering back], [third person-view in my solitude], [be my own reality], if the audience peruse these parts of my writing, a sense of sympathy could engrossed into the presented situation. Now, going back to the previous stanza, it reads “To complement, I’m here of nowhere, where everywhere of mine is gone.” (Stanza 1, line 4) With this part being written, if the audience focuses on the setting here, they could get the feeling that “I” am at a place of emptiness. This is a place where nothing existed, and where the traces of my existence is erased. With the use my my purposeful …show more content…
Then, as I read through his poem, although being short of text, it is concise and impactful. Just by reading the poem one round, I have already gotten the sense of solitude from the rose. The rose from the concrete was never cared, stayed unnoticed despite its talent. This made me think about myself, specifically my assumed identity as the contrary, but with the incorporation of my authentic identity where my true self is unnoticed. The first imagery I got from the poem in relation to myself is myself being confined in a corner of nothingness. After that, I realized what I can write about my identity and started there. As to look for an example as a start, I used the poem itself. In the poem, the author have used sensory detail, describing the setting of the rose, being placed at the crack of a concrete, and thriving slowly. Like the author, I have also used sensory detail to describe my identity, for it being at solitude, of its wonders being from the perception belonging to the body of the assumption. However unlike the author, due to the nature of the purpose between our poem, the way I have wrote all contributes to the melancholy tone
The speaker in this poem has suffered from the lack of care that her father gave to her. She is describing her regret over her father and what both of her parents did to her “you are going to do things you cannot imagine you would ever do”(Olds 439). When the speaker was a child she was abused and hurt by her parents. This isolated her from the rest of the people her age. Though she was surrounded by people she felt as if she couldn’t connect with any of them so she remained alone and isolated.
The author brings ideas that I related to the word loneliness. Sometimes I feel loneliness, but this poem is no about me but it relate in what happened to me.
By using his “sunken feelings” from his past and present, his personality can thrive and become something stronger so that he will stop thinking about asking others’ whether his poems are any good and will focus more on what the poem actually means to him (6). He will also stop expecting and considering any rewards like money or fame from his works of
Identity-“Ones personal qualities.”Identiy is something only he or she can fully define. My uncle says I am affectionate, cheerful, and calm. My grandmother sees me as slim, pretty and sweet. My dad described me as perky, cheerful and happy, my mom says beautiful, gentle, and self-conscious. These adjectives describe me accurately, yet they are only abstract versions of me. Adjectives cannot begin to describe me and I aknowlege these descriptions for what they are, a condensed translation from my outward self to the world. It is impossible for anyone to understand me completely because nobody has experienced the things I have. My mother has never cherished a raggedy doll named Katie and my father never
Prompt: Write a unified essay in which you relate the imagery of the last stanza to the speaker’s view of himself earlier in the poem and to his view of how others see poets.
There were serval themes of unification, liberation, endurance, survial, and integrity. The writer was able to show all these themes by constantly repeating “ I am..” and confirming his identity. Yet in the poem there is a bit of melancholy

Communication is the key to establish a good client/worker relationship with April. I must make her feel welcome and genuine. I would have to try my best to be culturally competent. I will have to treat her with respect even though she is asking for help. I will have to hold the space for her by listening attentively to what she has to say.
Identity is the main focus behind this poem. For instance, confidence is shown constantly throughout the story. “It’s in the reach of my arms, the span of my hips, the stride of my step, the curl of my lips.
The individual, as simple as it may seem to the eyes of the world, and in a deeper context, in the eyes of itself, is heavily misunderstood. It may seem striking, but the reality of things is that the individual in itself doesn’t have a good grasp to their identity. The reason as to why the individual doesn’t know itself is due to a lack of true self reflection. However, despite all the negativity in regards to the individual not truly understanding the body they find themselves trapped in, it can overcome its identity crisis. To put it simply, an individual can find their place in society by coming to look at themselves in a more critical way and by analyzing the way they interact with the world that revolves around them.
“Alone” Alone is a crucial and powerful word. It brings a passion of difference and hate for not being able to see what is in front because blinds are there to block reality. The feeling of being alone is when a person has no one to count on and relay. Passion is felt for your lovely loved one but hate is your friend when passion is no longer in existence. A symbolism in the poem is the title "Alone"; the word Alone represents the death of Edgar Allan Poe’s wife.
Walt Whitman the poet of “Song of Myself” featured in the collection Leaves of Grass, Whitman sees himself as an individual, and also describes how he is connected to us by explaining how we are all alike. Whitman describes how he sees us and himself as individuals, and how we are connected. The quote he uses is (ll 6) My tongue, every atom of my blood, form’d from this soil, this air. Whitman values nature and people being in it.
Loneliness resulting from loss is a main theme in “The Wanderer” that occurs throughout the poem and is used by the author to explain the severe nature of the ‘lone-dwellers’ loss and the pain it has caused him. Following the many flashbacks throughout the poem, the ‘lone-dweller’ enters
The book’s thread of isolation and wandering parallels the theme of Green Day’s “Boulevard of Broken Dreams.” Both present the idea that lacking affection from others leads to wandering ad isolation. Jane is the girl who can declare, “I walk alone.” There is no one in her life that she can rely on so she is a wanderer and isolated from everyone. Since she is alone, she is also foreign to emotions of love, comfort, and the feeling that she belongs. Jane feels that she is “a wanderer on the face of the earth” (231). Jane is an orphan and she is always in a constant search for a family that cares for her. Until Jane finds her family, she will be alone on her nomadic journey. Additionally, her shadow is the “only one that walks besides [her].” She is so separated from everyone that not even stranger goes near her, but only an incomplete version of herself. When Jane falls in love with Rochester, she thinks, “I had made an idol” of him (279). Since Rochester is her God, she does not have God to help her after Rochester betrays her and now she is separated from God’s protection. After she leaves Rochester to start a new life she is isolated from love and all by herself again. Her true identity as an orphan cannot ever be erased. She hopes that “someone out there will find me.” In
For the terrible feeling of loneliness to affect you, you must experience what happened in the beginning of the story. The first stanza play a continuous role with the literary devices imagery and symbolism. The “dream” (1) stands for the writers unknown desire or state that will later be revealed. The “Queen” (2) is control and power of land and her virginity; however, the “Angel” (3) is seen as selfless love that is desired differently for everyone. The Queen is wanting to feel better about herself; however, she only learns how about how to get someone else to be there for her. In the second stanza, a repetition of “And” (8-12) is seen in the beginning. Also, “wept” (5) is connotation of not always meaning crying, but growing up has many struggles in which can causes someone to be sad or hurt. These two stanzas begin with the writer dreaming that he was a queen, but she (the writer) was upset with herself. The queen cried and cried when an angel came to her. The angel wasn’t the most hilarious or witful, but he made her happy and the queen hid those feelings from him. This second stanza starts all the drama because the angel was there to help while she was sad, but she kept pretending to be sad so the angel may be there to protect her.
