At the beginning of A Christmas Carol, Scrooge is bitter, greedy, and selfish. He was rude to just about everyone he met, because he was discouraged over losing some really important people in his life. And since he was upset over that, he definitely didn’t have to try to act the way he was feeling. He had a right to be feeling that way, but he shouldn’t have taken action. But as he met three ghosts, Scrooge changes from these traits through his experiences throughout the story.
When the ghost of Christmas Past visits Scrooge, it shows him his old boss, Mr. Fezziwig. As the text says, “I should like to be able to say a word or two to my clerk now.” (pg. 46) That basically means he wishes he were more like his old boss, and not so selfish. Then, when the ghost of Christmas Past shows Scrooge his ex-fiancee, he remembers why he was bitter, greedy, and selfish in the first place, which definitely was a setback in his character development.

When the Cratchits were eating the meal, Scrooge asked if Tiny Tim would live and when the ghost says no, he is discouraged. As the text states, “If he be like to die, he better do it, and decrease the population.” (pg. 71) When Scrooge heard what the ghost said he was The vibe wasn’t was positive after stating his name, so that gives Scrooge reason to change. When Scrooge sees Tiny Tim, he begins to worry. He’s worried the boy will die. When he asks the ghost if the boy will live, and the ghost say not if something is changed, then Scrooge becomes
Scrooge then decided to become more gracious because of his bosses gracious acts that had come before. Secondly, the Ghost of Christmas Present retaught Scrooge how to be more compassionate and caring which intern made him a step closer to being a pure human being. The spirit showed Scrooge Cratchit's family dining but and told Scrooge Tiny Tim would die and that caused Scrooge to become sad. The memory was important because it shows Scrooge cared for others wellbeing.
At first, Scrooge was hateful. The Ghost of Christmas Future was showing him his future. His future was death if he didn’t change. Then Scrooge begged for mercy and was able to stay alive and be happy. After the Ghost of Christmas Future showed him his death he changed.
This causes Scrooge to change for the greater good; as soon as he finishes the encounters and time-traveling with the 3 ghosts of Christmas, he then goes to dinner with the family (I forgot their last names).
The Spirit shows Scrooge Bob Cratchit and his family, which includes Tiny Tim. Page 55 of paragraph 271 states,”Spirit, tell me if Tiny Tim will live...No kind Spirit! Say he will be spared!” Scrooge feels sympathy for the young boy, and he wants to prevent his possible, and likely death. The only way he can create a positive impact and keep Tim alive, is if he becomes more generous in the future. This change occurs in paragraph 78 of page 290,”I’ll raise your salary and endeavor to assist your struggling family and we will discuss your affairs this very afternoon over a bowl of smoking bishop.” This isn’t the only generous action that Scrooge makes towards the Cratchit family. He also had a huge goose delivered to their house anonymously, and gave money to those involved in the process. Before the ghost encounters, Scrooge was reluctant to give any money away to anyone that wasn’t working for him. His sudden wish to give his own shillings and time to the poor shows the significant transformation that has been made since Present visited
In the Victorian time frame, this was very common because Scrooge had higher power than Bob so it was common for rich people to treat their employees bad. Secondly, In the next scene, the ghost of Christmas present showed him what kind of person he was to people. but some people cared and respected Scrooge and Scrooge still didn't care. Lastly, after he didn't learn anything from the two ghost. The ghost of Christmas past showed Scrooge the way he acted in front of people, however, No one
The ghost of christmas past showed Scrooge multiple scenes showing how he treated people in the past and how he was wrong. One scene is where Past takes him back to his hometown where he sees everyone being happy and jolly and hearing the beautiful sing of christmas carolers. Past shows him that christmas isn't that bad and it never did anything to him. Past takes him back to when scrooge and his sister were back in school and how lonely they were but they still had each other. Scrooge rememberers how
The first spirit to visit him was the Ghost of Christmas Past who showed to Scrooge some of the past Christmases that Scrooge was a better man in the past. “Oh I loved her,” said Scrooge with a smile on his face when he saw Fann, his loving little sister. There was also the Ghost of Christmas Present. With the help of both of them, Scrooge was beginning to become a greater man when he saw how awfully Mr. Bob Cratchit was struggling. The Ghost of Christmas Present showed Scrooge how the other people around him cared for him. At Fred’s party and at the Cratchit house, they both gave a toast to Scrooge’s good health. Looking at these two instances Scrooge started to turn into a finer man for himself, family, and
According to Welch, Scrooge is a changed man and he does promise to keep Christmas in his heart and throughout the year. In A Christmas Carol, Scrooge says, “I will honor Christmas in my heart and try to keep it all the year. I will live in the Past, Present, and the Future. The Spirits of all three shall strive within me.” He goes beyond just telling that he will change, he acts upon what he said to the spirits and makes plans. He plans to buy a big turkey and send it to the Cratchits for Christmas. He also plans to visit his nephew Fred. If Scrooge can have an inward change so can we, but we must be willing to
Later in life, scrooge is visited by the ghost of his departed co-worker, Marley. Marley visits Scrooge because the ghost wanted to give his friend a chance at redemption. The scrooge is vicious, malcontent and greedy in the story of “A Christmas Carol”, however he transformed himself into a better person over the course of the play because of the effect of seeing himself in a new way. The
The spirit wanted Scrooge to be happy and not be greedy anymore so the spirit takes scrooge through his past to remember how happy he was. Scrooge felt bad for himself because of all the good memories that were made when he was a kid. After the spirit showed scrooge his past, scrooge felt bad for himself. He says “poor boy” an tears up, then he wishes that gave something to the little boy that came carolling at his door. Scrooge wishes that he could be happy like he was when he was a little boy. He changes some but he doesn't change all the way.
One way Scrooge changed was by being giving. When the ghost of Christmas past, present, and future visited Scrooge he was a sting man. He gave his workers as little as he could and he didn't give anything to charity. After the spirits visited him he was a giving man. He treated his workers kindly and gave them the money they deserved.
He does not pay people fairly and he does not give back to his community like he should. Throughout the story, Scrooge changed in many ways such as, feeling bad for not doing something for someone, not giving enough money to his employee who needed it really badly, and finally not seeing anyone grieve his death. In Stave Two when the First of the Three Spirits appeared, Scrooge was very confused about what was going on. He did not understand what was happening to him at this point.
Scrooge had a miserable childhood where he was always in a boarding school and his parents never visited him. If you were sent to a boarding school and felt your parents forgot you, would you be an angry adult? Scrooge in the Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is a major character in the story in which he is not very nice to anybody because of his life happenings. When he appears in the story, he is greedy and doesn’t want to like anybody, he is a very unhappy man that only cares about himself. But at the end he kind of is clear that he was very childish and that he didn’t care about anyone else but himself so he decided he wanted to change his act. While he is with all the spirits, he goes from greedy and mean to clear of his mistakes, he wanted to be nice to everybody, and wanted to tell people that, by giving back to them in any way possible.
Scrooge began his transformation into a good man when the Ghost of Christmas present shows him the Cratchit household. Scrooge throughout this scene is presented with the consequences of his actions and how they affect those who are less fortunate than he. “Think of that. Bob had but fifteen bob a-week himself; he pocketed on Saturdays but fifteen copies of his Christian name; and yet the Ghost of
The Ghost of Christmas Present answers Scrooge’s question of Tiny Tim being alive or not later on, and the ghost shows and tells Scrooge that Tiny Tim may die. This memory is important because it causes Scrooge to become thoughtful because he has faith and hope for Tiny Tim. At the bottom of page 271, it says that Scrooge wants Tiny Tim to be spared and that he wants him to live and that he misses and loves him which shows thoughtfulness. This shows Scrooge has changed because Scrooge is worried and being worried for someone and not wanting them to die shows thoughtfulness. The character trait thoughtfulness adapts to Scrooge which changes him for the
