In the novel, Mockingjay by Suzane Collins, the protagonist, Katniss Everdeen, is the face of a rebellion, whose goal is to overthrow the capitol of Panem from its tyrannical ways. She along with her group, squad 451, are assigned a mission. The mission is designed to penetrate and overthrow the capitol and kill its president to free the country from the capitol's rule. In the novel, Mockingjay, Collins uses imagery and symbolism to develop the theme of manipulation. Collins writes, "My [president snow] failure, was being too slow to grasp Coin's plan. To let the capitol and districts destroy one another, and then step in to take power with thirteen barely scratched. Make no mistake, she was intending to take my place right from the beginning.
Mockingjay by Suzanne Collins is both a novel of science fiction and suspense. In Mockingjay, Katniss, her sister Prim, and her friends Finnick and Gale all are forced to adjust to a rigorously structured life in the underground existence of District 13, which has been the preeminent force behind the rebellion in Panem. Feeling somewhat coerced, Katniss in due course agrees to be "The Mockingjay"—a poster child for the District’s rebellion—but only on one condition; District 13's President Alma Coin swears under oath to grant an official pardon to all former Hunger Games tributes, including Katniss's friend Peeta Mellark and Finnick Odair’s soulmate Annie Cresta, and to allow Katniss the pleasure of killing President Snow once he is apprehended. Mockingjay has a multitude of high points and no true low points.
Katniss Everdeen shares in Thoreau’s beliefs and has a strong hatred towards the government in which she lives under. The government she lives under, led by the Capitol, is a totalitarian government. They are very cruel and they attempt to control every aspect of the people’s lives. Katniss says, “Taking the kids from our districts, forcing them to kill one another while we watch--this is the Capitol’s way of reminding us how totally we are at their mercy” (Collins 17). This shows just how controlling and intimidating the government of her society is. Katniss expresses her hate for the Capitol when she says, “It’s the Capitol I hate, for doing this to all of us” (Collins 166). Katniss hates the government and how they operate, just as Thoreau and other transcendentalists do.

She disobeyed and degraded her country's government, the Capitol, on national television by defying its legislations.When Katniss was chosen for the third Quarter Quell, a battle to the death held for the Capitol’s entertainment, she decided that she was through with the Capitol’s ridiculous regulations and so were the citizens of the thirteen districts of Panem. It was common knowledge that the Capitol does not rule their country fairly and they treat the citizens of the districts inequally to the citizens of the capitol. Katniss Everdeen, the protagonist in The Hunger Game series, is one of the survivors of the hunger game. Katniss comes from district 12, the poorest area in the whole countries. The character’s image is tough and strong because she wants to protect her family from any dangers. Therefore, she volunteers to replace her sister in the hunger game to protect her. She even become the symbol of resistance (the Mockingjay) of the war to the Capitol during the revolution. For people in the Panem, Katniss is the victor of the hunger game, the hope, who survives from the torture and poverty. The image of Katniss represents people who fight for survival in the real world. People sometimes need to give up something when they faced difficulty, like Katniss, she makes efforts to fight with the government.
The boy tribute that is from her district is Peeta Mellark who she knew from long ago. Peeta confessed to the public that he loves her and that begins their friendship. Throughout the games, she watches as tributes are killed and a young girl named Rue is murdered. When this happens, Katniss kills Rue’s attacker. This is the first time that she has ever killed a person, so she takes it very hard. Rue was not only Katniss’s ally but her friend, she was Prim’s age and reminded her of her sister. So, when Rue was killed it struck Katniss deeply. By the end of the games she has come to love Peeta back and it comes down to the two of them. They refuse to kill each other, so they decided to eat berries that are poisonous but the capitol has to have a victor, so the capitol announces that they are both victors. When she did this, it was a direct punch to the capitol and it ignited a spark in the people, that began the process of a revolution. After she returns home, she realizes what her actions caused and that is the real reason that she went there. She was destined to be the Mockingjay, or the leader of the revolution against the capitol. She realizes that she is the only way that the people will unite and fight to
The Declaration of Independence is the most honorable document in America’s founding history. In the Declaration, Thomas Jefferson wrote, “. . . That to secure these rights [Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness] . . . that whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government . . .” The Declaration incites people to overthrow their governments if governments violate people’s rights. People of Panem in The Hunger Games novel may not know their rights, but Katniss, the main character, does not seem to bear the Capitol’s injustice towards the people and therefore incites an insurrection. By carefully reading and analyzing the novel, readers can notice the rebellion theme which is represented and symbolized by the demonstration of the mockingjay, Katniss, the double suicide, the wildflowers, and the woods.
Although it turns out to be a ploy to catch thought criminals and he doesn’t succeed in his endeavors, he still possesses qualities of a modern hero. In Mockingjay, President Snow manipulates Katniss into killing coin, gaining power over her decisions through suggestion. Repetition in the line “I’ve been watching you, and you me” emphasises Snow’s self-perceived similarity to Katniss in that they were both distracted with each other while a common enemy was in power. Snow suggesting that Katniss is powerless under somebody who is ‘evil’ causes her to seek justice against her oppressor and turn her attention away from Snow. She hadn’t thought of Coin as an enemy who should not have power until it was suggested to her. Snow did this intentionally so that he could eliminate coin and hope to turn the attention away from himself. suggestion as a means to manipulate others is also present in Macbeth.

President Alma Coin is president of District 13 and the leader of the rebellion, one of the main enemies of the Capitol. For most of the book, President Coriolanus Snow isn’t physically present, but he’s heavily mentioned throughout the story.
