Mockingjay by an American author, Suzanne Collins, is a science fiction novel that was published in 2010 by Scholastic Corporation. This book can be described as a War Novel or a dystopian fiction. Some of the major themes that are a part of this book are how the war was painful, the act of sacrifice, and humanity and society could all die out from fighting each other uselessly.

Suzanne Collins is a 52 year old, American television writer and novelist, who have written the best-selling series The Underland Chronicles and The Hunger Games. The novels in The Hunger Games trilogy consists of The Hunger Games, Catching Fire, and Mockingjay. As and only a deal, she requests that the leader of District 13, President Coin, to protect all of the winners of The Hunger Games, who were captured and imprisoned in the Capitol. She also demands to execute President Snow herself. Clinched alongside a brave rescue, Peeta and the others were saved from the Capitol. Though, Peeta has been brainwashed under hating Katniss, and tries to kill her upon their gathering or reunion in District 13. The rebels take control of all the districts and start an ambush on the Capitol itself, which Katniss may be a part of. However, during the assault on the Capitol, something wrong occurs, and Katniss and her group escape further into the Capitol for the plan on finding and killing President Snow. Eventually, Katniss figures herself going alone towards President Snow’s mansion that was opened to shelter the Capitol children, who were actually providing protection and shields for Snow. Later on, bombs were set in supply packages, which killed many of these children, the rebel medical team, including Katniss’s sister, Primrose. After he was tried, President Snow was found guilty for what happened to the children, but he tells Katniss that the last attack that killed Prim and the other children was ordered by President Coin, not the Capitol. Panem is of included of twelve districts which rule over the distant districts severely because of a poorly organized rebellion that occurred more than seventy years ago. The point of view of Mockingjay could be written as mostly first person in the story, since we are mainly hearing Katniss’s thoughts, but it can also be second person, and third person. Also, it is shown in the book that is written in an authorial way. The main characters of the novel are Katniss Everdeen, Peeta Mellark, Katniss’s friend, Gale Hawthorne, President Snow, and President Coin. Katniss Everdeen, the main protagonist and narrator of the story, is a seventeen year old heroine, and is depicted to be strong, independent, and brave survivalist. Few years ago, yet over, she attempted to be so many things on so many people, she loses view for who she really used to be. "We could be ourselves again" (3.26). Peeta Mellark is also one of the main characters in the story; he is the baker’s son from District 12, and is depicted to be bold, smart, and brave. He was madly in love with Katniss for a long time, and is willing to keep Katniss safe.
