For those unfamiliar with Kairos, it is a four-day religious retreat in which you and a small group of students come together to more learn about God, themselves, and others in a setting that completely removes you from the daily distractions and stresses of the outside world. Ever since I was a little girl I didn't like reading, doing homework or taking exams. I only enjoyed lunch time, gym time and after school programs. I was always in the top classes because of my mother's connection with teachers in the school until I got into the third grade. That's when you start to take a state exam test and if you failed you either get left back or get put in a class based on your grade score. That's when I went from being in top classes to the bottom classes and realized I had to get it together in school because I didn't want to look like a fool or be a fool. That all changed in middle school, I was always put in programs that helped students who wasn't on top of their work and I started to see my name on the honor roll

In my current youth, my childhood held a far different aspect. To be honest, I loved my elementary school and learning in general. However, I always felt secluded. If I were to walk, talk, or even shout I’d never be accounted. When it came to class projects or homework, my peers never consulted my regards. “Hey, do you know how to do this problem?” I’d ask my partner. Nothing. “Do you know how to spell library?” I’d ask

It was on a rainy, cold winter day when my life suddenly changed. What marked my transition from childhood to adulthood was when I became a mother. I instantly felt like an adult when I gave birth to my baby girl, Khloe Noel Williams, because I had someone to care for.

Everyone has their way of accomplishment or an event that transition them from childhood to adulthood. There's all types of accomplishments that will transition you from childhood to adulthood. From my own experience moving out on my own because I was ready to become a mother changed me from my childhood to adulthood at 17 years old. Becoming a mother to my now 1 year old was the biggest event that transitioned me from my childhood into my adulthood. Finishing school with my GED is also an accomplishment of mines. An accomplishment is something you achieve. To accomplish anything that you can be proud of you have to work hard for it. If you don’t work hard you will not accomplish anything. Receiving honor roll during third quarter my sophomore year was my greatest accomplishment. During third quarter I made a goal that I would work harder to get better grades.

In the grand scheme of my life thus far, my childhood has transitioned to adulthood in a rather gradual manner. There are few truly significant events that I have experienced. However, of those few, two outlie my previously stated gradience. At approximately the same time in my life, I began to drive and I acquired a minimum wage occupation.

The clock struck nine a.m. on the fourteenth day of April 2015 and the courtroom fell silent. It was on this day that I, along with two of my sisters, went to court to face my uncle who was being charged with aggravated sexual battery against a minor under the age of twelve. It took massive courage and bravery to come face to face with the monster that was considered family up until that point. This is the day that I believe I transitioned from childhood to adulthood. I believe this because I had to stand up for what was right, whether I wanted to or not, despite the humiliation of confronting something I had long ago buried.

Growing up I was basically an only child; all my siblings were older than me and had already started their careers and I had just been born. As I started growing up my parents realized that I was not like my other siblings, I tended to be very OCD, quite and very smart. I took these qualities and dedicated them to my education as I grew up. Throughout all my years of schooling I never got below a B average, I was always on the honor roll and exceled in all my courses. Until this day, I still maintain the same characteristics, I have taken great pride in my achievements and believe that throughout everything I have been through I still maintained a very positive person and never let my personal life get in the way of my academics.

When I was a kid, school for me was waking up early in the morning. I also have to study a lot in school, then after school I have to do homework. I remember my first day at school. My mom and dad, both were so happy and prepared but I was so nervous and cheerless. I didn’t like to wake up early in the morning for school , but as time flew by I started loving school which made me wake up with energy instead of tiredness. I began to enjoy the school as I made new friends and I got to know how it is like when you meet people out of your neighborhood. With my friends I had lunch together and study together. I started to understand what the purpose of the education system. Based on what I understood I think the purpose of education is really aimed at helping students get to the point where they can learn to be on their own. In this journey of education I had a lot of positive and few negative experiences,but the negative experiences also helped me growing. Positive experiences are my teachers helping me improve, and I improved more when I moved to the United States.

School, to me and among many peers of my age, is not a distant term. I have spent one-third of my life time sitting in classrooms, every week since I was seven years old. After spending this much time in school, many things and experiences that happened there have left their mark in my memory. Some are small incidences while some have had a great impact on me. However, regardless the degree of significance, things that happened all contributed to shape the person that I am now.
