1. My current situation with work isn't that great. I told my boss that I have school and that is my main focus this fall. They really want me to work so they can get things done. The problem is they are going to give me the crappy jobs that nobody wants. Why would I go back when I would be given the crappy jobs to do? I currently have enough money to cover my schooling costs. It bothers me that they can't hire someone else. It's almost like they expect me to come back and work.

When a person, such as Ryan, is considering applying to a college or university there can be many psychological factors that can play a part in determining your actions. The things you become exposed to, assumptions about people, and your motivations are all attributing to our life decisions.

1. In a college paper the audience is almost always the professor. Knowing this the author would keep his paper very formal by using proper grammar, and appropriate word choice.and would make sure to add literary devices that the professor looks for. For example, if the professor enjoys imagery, then the student would try to fill his/her paper with that literary device. In certain situations the student may have to read their writing in front of the class. When the audience involves the classroom, one should try to structure his/her paper in a way that would not generalize broad topics, because a classroom scene isn't whole there are many cultural backgrounds to take in consideration. A way to avoid generalization is to not give a single perspective on vast topics. For example, if one is talking about Trump, they should write about a liberal's perspective, as well as a conservative's perspective.

Teaching higher order thinking skills is not a recent need. It is apparent that students, at all levels of education, are lagging in problem-solving and thinking skills. Fragmentation of thinking skills, however, may be the result of critical thinking courses and texts. Every course, especially in content subjects, students should be taught to think logically, analyze and compare, question and evaluate.

1. What factors might each of them think are most important to include in the research design?

Prior to starting the Critical Thinking course I used difference leadership methods’ taught in the Reserve Officer Training Core (ROTC) and Squadron Officer School; there were additional leadership classes, including battle staff strategies requiring in-depth thinking. After retiring September 2008, with twenty seven years of Air Force and Reserve time, I begin using random means of thinking.

Victor Davis Hanson’s op-ed piece about the dangers of defense cuts demonstrates shortfalls in two critical thinking areas. These areas are “POINT OF VIEW” and “EVALUATION OF INFORMATION,” as described by Dr. Gerras’ paper on critical thinking. Strategic leaders familiar with the Dr. Gerras’ Critical Thinking Model are able to use it to analyze Mr. Hanson’s article. It is imperative that strategic leaders become critical thinkers. They can use Dr. Gerras’ model to identify the various critical thinking shortfalls. The client is an 18 year-old high school graduate. He self-reported did “OK” in high school, B – C, student, but did well enough on his standardized tests to be admitted to the colleges where he applied. Despite having the opportunity to go to college he reported hating school and did not enroll. He currently works with an independent contractor, performing painting, light carpentry and electrical work. His previous work experiences have included food service at a pool snack bar, and field and maintenance work for a firm owning a large collection of athletic complexes. Critical-thinking abilities in reading instruction allow individuals to analyze, evaluate, and personally and creatively react to information presented in a text passage based on their own prior knowledge and past experiences (Blair, 2013, pg. 96). A student with critical thinking will be able to hypothesize, summarize, judge, look for assumptions, and imagined (Blair, 2013). However, critical thinking doesn’t develop by itself. If the students ae no instructed to think critically, they simply will not do so (Blair, 2013, pg. 96).

Fear. The first emotion that chilled my spine when my English teacher placed me in a group with Aaliyah, a Muslim classmate, to discuss our ideas on our reading assignment.¬ Why would she pick me to be in this group? From our modest beginnings using crude tools as cave dwellers to our most sophisticated technological advances of the 21st century, we continually show our ability to think critically. Critical thinking is a skill that must be nurtured and honed; it is easy to skip steps in the process thereby leading to inefficiencies in design or product. In this discussion, I will focus on two examples, one that shows a quality example of critical thought, and another that shows a failure in critical thinking.
