1. What factors might each of them think are most important to include in the research design?
Dr. Empiricist would consider experimental design and its features (independent/dependent variables, random assignment of groups, data collection) to be most important to include in research design because according to this perspective, knowledge comes from exposure and experience to a stimuli. He/She might pose an experiment in which a toddler with developed motor skills is compared to a toddler without motor skills in doing a specific task like picking up a block. Dr. Rationalist would consider observation and one-on-one questioning in order to grasp intricate behavior, feeling, and thought to be most important to include in research design because

What would be some concerns of Dr. Sociohistorical and Dr. Dynamical when they evaluate the designs of the other two researchers?
Dr. Sociolohistorical may fear that Dr. Empiricist relies heavily on statistical procedures, consistent outcomes, and variable relationships and not enough on the “cultural, social, and historical factors” that impact development. Dr. Dynamical might criticize Dr. Rationalist’s dependency on natural observation rather than verifiable test results (brain scans, artificial simulation, etc) which could lead to inconsistent or unreliable conclusions.
4. Where would be the team’s points of agreement and of disagreement?
The team would agree that there must be a way to test subjects to generate research that either proves or disproves a select theory. Subsequently, the research and conclusions drawn from the study must add breadth to the discussion of human development. Finally, the team would agree that the research design must contain some element of problem solving that will assist in the confirmation or denial of listed predictions. The team may disagree on how to test the subjects (through survey, experimentation, clinical interviews, brain scanning/mapping, etc). The team may also disagree on how accurately the research results verify the
Instructions: This is a group activity that you will start in class and complete at home. For each of the following, note, whether the research design used is an experiment, a quasi-experiment, or a correlational approach and why. If a study is an experiment, identify the independent variable and the dependent variable. Please type your answers in complete sentences.
For my paper I will be discussing in depth the responses to the questions posed at the end of the study as follows. What kinds of problems are inherent in Jolene’s research project? How would these problems affect the research results? How would you solve these problems? What should Stefanie do? What would the consequences of these actions be for Jolene? For Dr. Lee? For Stefanie
1. My current situation with work isn't that great. I told my boss that I have school and that is my main focus this fall. They really want me to work so they can get things done. The problem is they are going to give me the crappy jobs that nobody wants. Why would I go back when I would be given the crappy jobs to do? I currently have enough money to cover my schooling costs. It bothers me that they can't hire someone else. It's almost like they expect me to come back and work.
When a person, such as Ryan, is considering applying to a college or university there can be many psychological factors that can play a part in determining your actions. The things you become exposed to, assumptions about people, and your motivations are all attributing to our life decisions.
24. Does the design used seem to reflect consideration of feasibility issues (cost, time, etc.)? Recruiting subjects and conducting interviews are not needed, however, since this is a large longitudinal study lasting two years, costs are a factor. Researchers did not address costs or other feasibility issues in the article, but statements in the introduction indicate the hospital covered the costs, in an effort to gather data on
In the modern age of health, education and public safety, society relies on rigorous research methods to find answers to complex issues dealing with social issues and general concerns. Ultimately, some short-term research methods may initially fail; however, continued extended research should surely result in success and benefit future generations. Depending on the topic of research; some research methods might be more appropriate than others. For example, clinical and laboratory experimental trials might receive better consummation if they use Quasi-experimental and Classical Experimental design rather than Cross Sectional Studies and Longitudinal Studies which focuses more on psychological experiments and behavior studies (Addison) (2015).
3. Determine an appropriate research design that addresses the research question regarding developmental psychology and also explain why it was chosen.
As a real estate agent this is a question I hear a lot. It is natural that homeowners want to know how much their home is worth and most renters want to work out if they can afford a home or if they are better off renting.
1. Describe the justification for the study. What does the study add to the literature? Is this the first study of its kind or is it an adaptation of previous studies?
According to Chen (2009), babies who are kept warm have a higher chance of surviving when born prematurely (1:13). However, there are many areas located in other countries that are not able to supply this type of medical need, which results in the young patients passing away. A case study that was conducted in West Africa involved caregivers who took an inexpensive approach in an attempt to help save the premature babies lives. One method involved swaddling the infants in foil to help them maintain their own body heat, and another method required the aids to provide skin-to-skin contact with the infants (Harris, 2007). Many new medical trends do not need to cost millions of dollars; it can often result in looking at the
Did the researchers’ conclusions make sense, did they answer the research question, and did they appear to flow from the review of the literature?
The Researcher presents five structured questions as part of the research question section. The questions are detailed and relevant. In addition he researcher provides a Hypothesis of the question, in other words, the researcher is looking to prove her hypothesis. Even though the study was mainly quantitative in nature, the researcher used qualitative techniques to inform the teachers during the design phase to assist with the interpretation and clarification of the results of the study, not that the researcher was manipulating the study, but provided clarification to the responses by providing a hypothesis of what she was looking to
In the pursuit of scientific knowledge, researchers often undergo professional and personal pressures concerning their interaction with colleagues, designing their study investigations, and presenting their study results. Committee on Science, Engineering, and Public Policy (U.S.), National Academy of Sciences (U.S.), National Academy of Engineering, Policy and Global Affairs and Institute of Medicine (U.S.) (2009) wrote a guide on ethical principles to note while conducting research, According to them, making the right decision in research is important, as failure to do this can lead to weakened personal and professional trust, delayed knowledge advancement, as well as wasted time and effort. In order to mitigate these threats to research, professional principles that express generally acceptable traditions of working with others and conducting research have been developed. In his book on behavioral research, Cozby and Scott (2012)
Quantitative and Qualitative are said to be systematic in different design. Both design have to follow a process system that involved defining a principle of research.
Description of the theory that is guiding the research and assessment of whether it is clear how the authors used it to shape the study
