I share some of the characteristics of a great leader while others I identify and work to strengthen. I can apologize, admit when I am wrong, handle criticism, and learn from my mistakes. I enjoy the opportunity to listen with an open mind to the other side of the issue. Organizing and taking charge are strengths that I use with my classmates during projects, in social activities with friends, and with my teammates in sports. One book was Do Not Pass Go by Kirkpatrick Hill. Deet’s father is jailed for drug use. Angry, hurt and ashamed, Deet faces his fears and sees the prisoners as people with their own stories just like his dad has. I feel it is easy to judge people especially those in jail and with my father being a police officer. It made me realize there is always someone going through a more difficult situation, have compassion and do not judge. The other book was The Leadership Moment: Nine True Stories of Triumph and Disaster and Their Lessons for Us All by Michael Useem. In chapter 2, Wagner understood the severity and acted quickly in changing the plan accordingly. However, Wagner lacked communication and lost the confidence of his men. It showed me the serious role a leader has when most of his men lost their lives as he didn’t recognize their confusion as he flagged them to follow him into the circle of fire to save their
