Leadership is an art and a science that is developed and perfected by the summation of innate abilities, understanding the behaviors of people and how to capitalize on their strengths, and the unique ability to inspire and drive under challenging and dynamic circumstances (http://www.gwinnettnetwork.com/ArticleWhatMakesAGreatLeader.htm). This discussion examines a leader profile that has been an influence in my personal development that will analyze the characteristics of the leader that affected my development and also create a leadership scorecard of the selected

What imparted on me most was the engineer’s ability to base business based decisions and motives based on personal values and did not let business politics to alter his decision.

The vision of the organization remained the target and steadfastly adopted the vision of the company and coached and inspired the way for others to follow suite via a philosophy of long-term proactive thinking (http://diversitymbamagazine.com/why-leaders-need-vision-integrity-compassion-to-succeed).
The engineering manager exhibited exemplary skills and as a leader that translated with him when he advanced to the engineering managers position. An effective leader has the ability to retain the competencies that has been acquired in fine-tuning his leadership capabilities to other roles. An assessment of the engineering manager’s competencies is depicted in a leadership scorecard and follows with explanations. The scorecard is assessment is based on key competencies of this leader with a scale rating from 1-5 that equates to lowest to highest.

The most valuable characteristics of a leader, for me, entail creativity, empathy, and passion. I wholly believe leadership is something that is learned through experience and drive– the National Honor Society is a catalyst to foster determination. Leadership in a classroom environment is where I first came into contact with the motivation and creativity that such a habitat
In the Leadership Challenge, 4th edition, it is Kouzes & Posner (2007) intention to present a road map for individuals to follow on their leadership journey. The authors stress that “leadership is not a gene and it’s not an inheritance.” Leadership they assert is “an identifiable set of skills and abilities that are available to all of us” (p. 23). They make clear that the “great person” theory of leadership is “plain wrong.” Leaders are our everyday heroes who do extraordinary things on a regular basis (p. 23).
Leadership in engineering requires intelligence, outstanding ethics, and humility. William LeMessurier exhibited these qualities throughout his career. LeMessurier was a structural engineer based in the Boston area who specialized in high-rise buildings.
Being a leader is not considered a job or position. Becoming a leader is not a talent, job or position. Although, leadership can be rewarding and difficult at the same time. In today’s society, “the kind of leadership necessary to move social movements forward is very different from the type of leadership required in a military setting, especially on the battlefield. A more sharpened focus on leadership processes versus individual leader traits and behaviors deepens our understanding of the complexities and interactive nature of leadership” (Komives, Lucas and McMahon 2013, 46). My goal is to understand how to face the complexities in life as a leader to communities, universities, organizations, the workplace and the world. As a leader,
In this paper I will explain what it takes to be an Engineer leader. This brief over view will touch on some of the Engineer leaders of the past. You will see the positive influences that these leaders had on the Army; specifically the Engineer Corps, setting traditions, raising morale, even making jokes with the President, while they were in the service. These innovators that will be discussed continue to shape our military even today. Teaching our current soldiers about the significant contributions of our past Engineer Corp leaders would not only boost morale and increase pride, but give a better understanding on what impacts the Corps of Engineers had during periods of war and during peace time.
Leadership goes beyond management, for some, leadership is instinctual and pours over into your personal life. This paper will discuss a leader I admire in my personal life, and analyze their leadership style. I will discuss how that leader has influenced my leadership style, as well as how things like environment and the economy affect my leadership approach.
Many may measure leadership in success, however, leadership is also measured in personality. The phrase “born to be a leader” holds true when considering the qualities a leader must possess. To be an effective leader, first it must be understood that respect, logical problem solving, and confidence without arrogance is key; these qualities are present in the leaders of the novel The Lord of the Flies as well as in modern leaders of today’s society.
A leader I admire, whether real-life or fictional character from the television, the movies or a book, will be identified. Leadership theories will be used to evaluate my selected leader to determine what characteristics and leadership abilities helped this leader become successful. I will also include an evaluation of my own leadership style and identify what my individual leadership characteristics are. The plan will be developed to improve my leadership style based upon the findings of my chosen leader’s leadership style compared to my own.
This paper will profile Jeff Hawkins, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for PalmOne, Inc. examining qualities that Mr. Hawkins exhibits that make him influential leader. The paper will also examine details of the business strategy that make this man an exceptional innovator and his contribution to eBusiness technology.
Fifteen weeks in the Business Introduction class, I learned how to become a leader with the guidances of, “The Student Leadership Challenge:Five Practices For Becoming An Exemplary Leader”, Student Leadership self assessment, Myers Briggs Type Indicator results, and SWOT analysis. From all the readings and assessments, A leader to me is someone who is able to set a positive example to their peers but also capable of receiving feedback. Leaders make
A society with an absence of leadership is one that exhibits disarray and pandemonium. Leadership, therefore, is a vital facet of human life and can be seen as a building block from which great nations were built upon or large corporations have thrived under. I believe leadership is intrinsically in all human beings, however some leadership traits in people are far more superior than others. This paper will evaluate results from multiple assessments that identify my particular leadership potential. Using Northouse’s text, this paper will also identify my particular strengths and weakness within leadership. The penultimate paragraph of this paper will consider how my evaluated leadership style interacts within my work environment.
What is leadership profile and what it means to you as an individual? What makes a great leader? These are questions that have been asked and researched for years. Well, I’m going to try to explain my theory on what leadership profile means from my point of view. Leadership profile is the mode you view a leader from your observation on how they lead. Research has been conducted by Evans., and Matthew (2016) at Development Dimensions (DDI) International exam database of assessment data for more the 15,000-plus leaders in 300 organizations, 20 industries and 18 countries and the results reported high –resolution leadership including numerous findings about leadership skill and readiness. There is no one pattern of how these leadership profile can be governed; however, you can rest assure it can be effective if used appropriately. These results have lead me to my definition of a leader, which is a leader is anyone who has affected your life by taking the role of a leader or anyone who you would follow to the ends of this earth. Though the way I understand leadership profiles may be somewhat different from the way you perceive it, nonetheless in my understanding leadership profile is the manner in which you interpret the person who has the knowledge to lead. Nowadays, with all this research being conducted on the subject there is no truthful way to narrow down an accurate answer to the questions above, but researchers are determined to continue their endless research in this
Do I possess the traits and behaviors associated with leadership? If not, can I now learn how to be a leader at this stage of my life? What kind of leader am I? Is that the kind of leader I want to be? What do my superiors, co-workers, friends, and family think of my leadership style and ability? Why am I sometimes uncomfortable talking about myself as a leader? Working my way through the text, interviewing colleagues, and checking into other resources, I can form a personal picture and embrace a personal theory about my own leadership style and ability. I may have stirred up more questions than I am able to answer but the process has been a fascinating insight to self-discovery. The end result is a desire to try
I also believe that an effective leader plays a significant role in promoting and molding individuals’ readiness as it relates to motivation and commitment. As such, I developed my leadership assessment with these points in mind. The assessment focuses on 14 attributes that I believe are important not only for a leader to be successful within the parameters of the SLT, but for most any leadership model adopted by a successful leader in the modern business environment. The assessment was completed by Bobby, my manager of nearly six years, and by Katrina, my highest-ranking direct report of nearly four years. Each was asked to assign a candid rating to each attribute using a one-to-ten (worst-to-best) scale as well as to make notes or offer any suggestions so that I may incorporate it into my leadership style in an effort to improve the areas of weakness and become a better leader. In addition, I did a self-assessment using the same criteria. It should be noted that while Bobby offered both a ranking and narrative feedback, Katrina completed the assessment using the numerical ranking only. The results were consistent in some areas and mixed in others, but revealed some valuable information that I can use not only within the context of this course, but also as my career is better defined over time.
