The novella “Ender’s Game” written by Orson Scott Card and first appeared in an issue of Analog in 1977, was adapted into a film directed by Gavin Hood in 2013, along the same story lines. Although the novella and movie were originally intended to have an identical story line, like most other book to movie adaptations, numerous factors, including character modifications, the evolution of ideas over a substantial time gap of 36 years, and alterations in the plot, contribute to several substantial differences between the movie and the novella. The movie adaptation of Ender's Game introduces notable differences in characters, particularly evident in Lieutenant Andersen. While there are still female characters in the novella, the females were more placed in stereotypical feminine roles. The 2013 film adaptation of Ender’s Game introduces several changes to the plot when compared to the 1977, such as in the novella, Ender’s family is present but not as featured as they are in the film. The novella provided minimal background information about events happening on Earth before Ender's departure for space, whereas the 2013 film adaptation expands on the plot based on earth before Ender goes into space. The movie dedicates more screen time to exploring Ender's family dynamics, particularly his relationships with his siblings, Valentine and Peter. The movie goes more into Ender’s background and family life, highlighting the impact of his family dynamic on his character development, especially his relationship with Valentine and Peter, are portrayed with more emotional depth, providing additional context for Ender's motivations and struggles. In conclusion, the 2013 movie version of Ender’s game has numerous changes from the original 1977 novella written by Orson Scott
