Communication skills are very important no matter where or who you are. Communication within a workplace can determine whether a business or individual is successful or not. Understanding effective communication in a medical setting helps hospitals and doctor offices develop a work environment that is able to communicate effectively with coworker, patients and doctors in order to take of the patients needs. Listening, clarity and Patience are three main keys to effective communication within a workplace. In this paper, the author will describe an experience within the medical field work place where communication was effective. In a medical workplace environment, having effective communication is very important. In my workplace, patient and staff communication is very important to run a clinic proactively. Working as a medical assistant for two different doctors can be very stressful and overwhelming at times because communication with them can be sometimes misconstrued. Recently, there has been a growing focus on the importance of educating our future health care professionals to be able to communicate effectively not only with their patients, but also with each other as a part of a multidisciplinary team. For example, a medication error can occur if a physician’s orders are not updated in time or if the outgoing nurse does not provide the correct time in which a dose was administered last.
