Dropping Classes

My name is Jacelyn Omusi and I am a second year student majoring in African American Studies. I am also aspiring to major in Sociology and minoring in Education. Though I understand that it is extremely late in the quarter, I am writing to you to request your permission to withdraw my enrollment from Stats 10 this quarter. I hope that the extenuating circumstances that I outline throughout this letter will convey my need to drop the course.

Making sure your sentences are correct and error free is the most critical process in writing. Great ways to make sure your paper is solid is to re-read your essay. Having another set of eyes work on your essay is also a great way to find easily overlooked errors. The quickly fixed and missed errors add up, and end up costing you. Many colleges and universities throughout the United States and several other countries face a common problem. Student retention is a growing problem across the nation for all ethnic groups and all ages. Each individual who chooses to drop out of school has their own personal reasons as to why they do. However, many drops out can be completely avoided. When students drop out they are not clearly thinking about how it’s going to affect their future, the future of their children and even grandchildren. Although there are several reasons as to why students drop out of school, we will be exploring a few as it relates to why student retention is a growing problem.

I just want to start off by saying that this is a difficult stepback for me to accept, due to my determination to be the best student that I can possibly be during my academic career. Therefore, when getting the notice that I was on Financial Aid Warning, I felt heartache of disappointment in myself for allowing this to happen near my senior year of attending this university. Rosangela Dempster: Thank you for your comment. The campus does track withdrawals. If we are able to, we verify their reasons for withdrawing and use that information to better assist our students. All of our service departments partner with our students to help them tackle life’s obstacles. Common reasons for withdrawal are: health, family emergencies, car accidents, or monetary.

Between both of my jobs I was working over forty hours a week and barely affording the costs of being a full time student and caregiver. This lead to me making the conscious decision to withdraw from a class because I knew I did not have the time or energy to dedicate to it. Though it crossed my mind to withdraw all together I knew I couldn’t. I kept my struggles to myself and stayed focused on my current obligations at the time as a student. When I got accepted in the Fall of 2014, the first class I registered for was ART 345, as it is a required class for my Graphic Design major and a pre-requisite to register for other upper division graphic design courses. To answer your question, I wish to leave Blessing-Rieman at this stage of my education because I am simply unhappy with their program and they made it more stressful than it needed to be. When I applied and attended Blessing-Rieman, they did not make me aware of certain requirements for the program until I completed the first or second semester of their program. At that time, I already completed a significant part of their program and I believed it would be a good idea to try and complete my degree.
