Dolphin Slaughter Persuasive Essay

In the documentary, The Cove: The Oceanic Preservation Society, also known as OPS, is introduced by the cofounders Ric’ O Barry, and Louie Psihoyos. They shine a light on the injustice of dolphins in Taiji, Japan. In this area, the local fisherman brutally captures the dolphins using the animal’s hearing against them, then slaughters them ruthlessly, as long as they are not picked up to be sold for commercial use. “23,000 Dolphins are killed annually. ”-

In Australia, sharks kill an average of three people every year. In Queensland 2017, to counter this, 667 sharks were culled to protect human’s safety on Australian beaches along with 100 accidental deaths of turtles, dolphins and dugongs. This was done with no scientific evidence to support that culling would work. All over the world 90% of shark species are threatened to become extinct with people killing 273 million sharks every year. This is why we must ban and make sure shark culling stops and never ever starts again. Shark culling is ludicrous, you have more of a chance dying from a coconut falling on you than a shark attack, coconuts actually kill 150 people every year does this mean we are going to kill all the coconuts? Here are a few arguments why shark culling must stop.

Since 1961, 157 orcas, or killer whales, have been ripped from their homes and shoved into captivity. 127 of these orcas are now dead. With the number of captured orcas plus the number of those born into captivity, The W.D.C. (Whale and Dolphin Conservation) reports that, “At least 162 orcas have died in captivity, not including 30 miscarried or stillborn calves” ( “The Fate”1). Out of the 127 taken into captivity, 44 have died in SeaWorld. There are currently 58 orcas residing in 14 marine parks in eight different countries. 24 of those orcas are held in SeaWorld’s three parks in the United States. Since 2002, 14 have been taken out of the wild and put into these marine parks. (“The Fate”1) It is not fair for these innocent creatures to be physically and mentally manipulated and damaged. Such brutality would not be condoned if it were targeted towards a human, and it should not be condoned when targeted toward an animal. Orca whales should not be held in captivity because they are forced to live in subpar conditions, they are mistreated while in captivity, and they are led to aggressive behavior.

Fish 1and chips, messed up ecosystems and broken food chain. Why do we have to cull our beautiful sharks that have done no harm to us? I have conducted a research about shark culling and why people do this. I strongly disagree to shark culling. I mainly think that we should just keep an eye out on the sharks in the ocean. They only mistake us a seals and eat us. We should all incorporate and help increase the population of sharks again. Now why do people cull sharks and how can we prevent this? What does shark culling affect?

Ever since the entertainment industry began to capture animals for the enjoyment of others, activists who believe animals can only subsist in the wild have been protesting against this monstrous act, using powerful propaganda to entice others to join their cause. The critically acclaimed film Blackfish, which highlights SeaWorld’s treatment of killer whales, apparently reveals shocking and appalling insight on accidental deaths caused by captive killer whales. One of the highest grossing documentaries of all time, as stated on director Gabriela Cowperthwaite’s website, Blackfish has captivated millions of viewers, causing them to reevaluate their values and advocating against SeaWorld. Although Cowperthwaite has stated in an interview that the “film is not at all advocating for anything,” and that she attempted to take a “journalistic approach” to documenting these phenomena, it is clear that the events depicted in the film reflect opposition to SeaWorld and its captivity of whales. Although Blackfish extensively applies human emotion and concepts to the animal kingdom to solicit sympathy from the viewers and provides misleading information to add to the sense of credibility, further research contradicts the points made in the film, rendering the conveyance of the film’s admonition against the captivity of killer whales ineffective.

Shark finning is the process of cutting off the fins of a shark and discarding the body at sea (“Stop Shark Finning”, 2009). People catch sharks for its fins, meat, oil, skin and so on. Sharks fins are most commonly used in Asian cooking which is shark fin soup. According to Maddalena, Sommeran and Leander (2007), people have been demanding for shark fins dramatically recently, it is unclear how many sharks are caught annually but some of the conservationists estimate the number to be upwards of 100 million. Besides, shark conservationists are aware about the consequences of the high demand of shark fins, they advocate people to stop killing sharks and eating shark fins. Sharks, the scariest, biggest, baddest creatures! That's what we make them out to be, but are they really? The answer is no, we say that. We kill more of them than they kill of us, about 900,094 more. Sharks, being carnivores, are NOT natural predators of humans.

Mass dolphin murder is one of the many issues that are happening in our world today in the 21st century. The Documentary Called “The Cove” would make the viewers open their eyes of what this world is actually and the secret Taiji, Japan is trying to keep. It would show them why these activist struggle so hard to stop this social issue for the reason that fishermen’s murder dolphins behind the scenes in the cove of Taiji, SeaWorld’s organization and the captivities of the dolphins. Dolphin meat being sold to people without knowing and potential health risk. Lastly, activist being at risk from helping dolphins. These are the countless causes that dolphins goes through and how activist risk their life for a change in society.

Despite the name given to these intelligent animals, killer whales don 't seem to be killer... in the wild anyways. Yet, places like SeaWorld seem to have shown people unintentionally that keeping whales in captivity and such small areas leads them to be aggressive, and essentially living up to their name. SeaWorld is an attraction that has been in the United States for many years, and although it provides great entertainment for individuals and their families, it also is a place where whales are treated poorly and held in captivity. While people enjoy the tricks the intelligent mammals are commanded to do, they don 't realize the poor conditions that they have once the show is over. Between whale fighting, poor feeding, and small areas; it is clear that keeping whales in captivity provides is both physically and mentally harmful to these animals. Many debates and arguments revolve around keeping whales in captivity, but keeping them in such small areas seems to cause them to lash out and hurt others. However, after learning about whales both in captivity as well as the wild, the realization that they should not be captive is starting to become noted by animal activists, the media and even the public. As the recent controversy of the poor conditions of killer whales in captivity is becoming more publicly noticed, animals activists are working towards the rights of killer whales.

There are so many interesting things about them. Dolphins have been around for about 15 million years now. They’re extremely intelligent, probably even more intelligent than us humans. Dolphins are becoming endangered because of humans and many don't know that. They are known as the oceans most kind animals.Dolphins have originated millions of years ago,are extremely endangered,and are becoming endangered.The most important thing to know about dolphins would probably be how they originated because without that those cute aquatic mammals wouldn't even exist.

Whaling is defined as hunting and killing of whales by humans for resources, mainly meat, blubber and baleen (whalebone) obtained from whales. These resources are then sold for commercial purposes and thus, whaling has become economical important for centuries (Joanne 2007; The Columbia Electronic Encyclopedia 2007). Scientific whaling is conducted by hunting whales for research purposes and further analysis to study on whale’s behaviour, characteristics and distribution (Joanne 2007). Commercial whaling is a controversial whaling practice that exploits whale products for trade and profit. Recently, Japan, Norway and Iceland are the major contributors of commercial whaling and deeply support any other whaling activities (Joanne 2007). Moratorium on commercial whaling 1986 is a global ban of hunting whales for commercial purposes, implemented by International Whaling Commission (IWC). Under Article VIII, unlimited scientific research is permitted but sufficient data and analysis are required by Science Committee set up by IWC (Papastavrou 2006).

I think your actions are more important than your words because you can think of doing a lot of things in life, but taking action on them and following through speaks volumes. An example that comes to mind is if I want to go to the mall but am making excuses as to why I can’t go, rather than just getting up and going by showing action.

Animal Cruelty is a problem that many ignore. People are oblivious to these animals and the negligence their owners show. Animal cruelty is an underlying problem in today’s society, and the only way to counteract these problems, is for this generation to do something about it.

There are many careers out there, but my chosen career is business management. I have always wanted to own my own business since I was a child. Owning a restaurant has always been a dream and a passion that I wish to accomplish. I know with the education that I am receiving now and with all of the skills that I have, I will be successful with owning or managing a business. When I get older I want to be able to provide for my family, and that gives me the motivation to strive to be fortune.
