With the knowledge of programming languages HTML and CSS (short for Hyper Text Markup Language and Cascading Style Sheets respectively) anyone is capable of creating a webpage in today’s world. With the websites rapidly becoming the preferred media for watching films and television, communicating and socializing, shopping, reading books, playing games and much more, their content, function and design are now more crucial than ever before as people demand higher quality with the advancement of technology and modernisation of online content. Hence, this essay will be discussing the terms design, function and content of webpages and how they influence the meaning and value of information, which is an enormous issue in this age as there is …show more content…
Last question is concerning the coverage, to tell if the topic was adequately covered by the information source. These questions are essential in evaluating the aspects of information and they are structured in a way everybody can understand them easily and use them to look at information, whether it is on the Internet, in books or articles with evaluating stance.
The website’s design signifies what is the page’s overall look, meaning what colours were used, what type of font there is, what kind of layout it has and if there is not just a solid colour as a background then also what type of background it has. All of these aspects add to the design and how the user views and perceives the information provided therefore it is crucially important in overall perception. Bad design can have catastrophic results and will result in people’s disinterest in the web page therefore should be avoided in all cases. As it is impossible to create a website suitable for everyone because people’s needs for aesthetics vary and all their needs are subjective, December suggests that there are techniques to raise the probability of satisfaction of a web page from the user. Since such issue can be resolved mainly by educating ourselves on the topic, paying attention and using common sense, creating web pages with bad design might be easily preventable.
There are several things that could be
The first versions of WWW ((what most people call “The Web”))) provide means for people around the world to exchange information between, to work together, to communicate, and to share documentation more efficiently. Tim Berners-Lee wrote the first browser (called WWW browser) and Web server in March 1991, allowing hypertext documents to be stored, fetched, and viewed. The Web can be seen as a tremendous document store where these documents (web pages) can be fetched by typing their address into a web browser. To do that, two im- portant techniques have been developed. First, a language called Hypertext Markup Languag (HTML) tells the computers how to display documents which contain texts, photos, sounds, visuals (video), and animation, interactive
In the year 2017, there is a high possibility that the design of websites will change from aesthetics to the usability standards. The design Trend in the year 2016 had already seen some organic design for websites and apps. In the coming year, the focus will be usability rather than beautification of the interface. As there’s a lot of apps on the market the one thing that
To standardize the appearance of the webpages, a template will be designed. The template will standardize the colors, margin, fonts and items that should be published on every page, and in the same location on the page. While designing the template, they need to keep in mind of how users read, rather how the scan the page. They do not read the page from left to rather the scan the page from top to bottom. To help ease users access content and for readability, the width of the margins and the size fonts need to be considered, how they will appear on various size screens, including mobile devices. To avoid distractions minimal colors, sound and video should be used at a minimal, animated backgrounds should be avoided, as it may just add to any visual glare from a screen, and difficult to view on smaller
This course introduces effective Web design principles and the essential role of the Web designer in today's business environment. Topics covered include site architecture, page layout, navigation, content, functionality, and usability. Students will evaluate existing Web sites and apply best practices to prototype a unique design using a Web authoring application.
The aim of this report is to critically analyse the architecture of the website www.flinders.ed.au. The information gathered from the analysis will be used to devise solutions to problems with the website. The technique of examination for the website was to thoroughly
Every day, people are browsing on the internet, going on different websites, but what makes them want to go on those certain websites? Each website is different from one another by having its own unique style and certain type of audience it is trying to attract. There are many ways a website can bring viewers to its site, such as having simple and readable text, a good color scheme, an easy to remember web address, etc. In this paper, it will be comparing and contrasting two museum websites (American Museum of Natural History and the Smithsonian), and deciding which museum website seems more likely to attract people. Between the two websites, the homepage layout, colors schemes, and website content are the
Technical documents, as is the homepage of Claflin University’s website, always have a target audience that dictates how information is structured for presentation. After some research, I found that university websites are mostly visited by prospective students and their parents; the target audience. These visitors’ visits are prompted by the need to complete some exploratory task such as finding out the cost of tuition or if a major is offered at the university. The homepage of a website sets the standard by which these visitors will hold the entire website, demanding that it meets the three (3) measures of excellence I will explore; accessibility, professional appearance, and clarity.
It is one of the biggest flaws of the website, for this reason it is essential to create enough space between the paragraphs and images so the viewer has space to breathe, minimize the paragraphs size of the content, divide large blocks of information into more manageable groups where natural and appropriate, avoid content clutter especially on the homepage, present information in more precise and ordered way to minimize the scrolling required, and finally, organize the content with respect to the principles of contrast, repetition, alignment and proximity. All these steps must be taken to accomplish three of our usability goals (effective home page, Clarity of the interface, Motivating website), as well as to meet two of the Windows Interface Guidelines, "aesthetics" and "simplicity".
The final website is suitable for intended audience because I have created wide range of written documents and images for the portfolio. My websites is available to be viewed in mobile phone, internet explorer and chrome after I tested the accessibility, so this meets the audience who wants to access my website though a web browser. Also, the audience is everyone. Therefore, I have included wide range of different colours for the younger side of the audience.
This webpage is designed with such simplicity with multiple graphics that are quite attractive. The presence of symbols used by the
College websites serve a variety of purposes for prospective and current students, which include, but are not limited to, generating information, data collection, and facilitating online transactions. Accelerated accessibility of web presence through a variety of platforms, from desktops to smartphones, propels websites to the forefront of many colleges’ introduction to prospective students. The aesthetic composition of websites is as significant as is practicality in our modern technological age, and mastery or shortcomings in either attribute can engender positive or negative assumptions respectively from visitors. Approximately 80 percent of website visitors assume that the design of a website is reflective of the entity it represents, according to researchers (Lowry 63). Subsequently, I have decided to conduct an analysis of Atlanta’s John Marshall Law School’s (AJMLS) website (Front) due to recent interactions with the site while applying for admission. During this essay, I will explore the aesthetics, practicality, and inconsistencies inherent in the site when accessed on mobile platforms as compared to desktops.
Web sites are just like magazines, newspapers, brochures, menus, or even directions on how to make nitroglycerin from house-hold goods, in that they all have to be put together in such a manner that whoever is reading or browsing over it will be able to clearly distinguish this from that. In this sense, a critique of any particular web site will have justification, while carefully considering also that this is an altogether new medium of information exchange. Now, all of this talk of togetherness is actually a general reference to basic design principles, such as color coordination, if color is used, text size, font choice/ style, art integration, accessibility, and just plain and simple design of the page. For
In my opinion what makes a good web page? I have been on the net for the last, can 't really believe it, coming to ten years now. From the conception to now, I have been a regular surfer on the web, visiting thousands of pages a month, mostly in search of some thing or another. Most searches have lead to even more searches but some times I come up tops. Having been used to the all text sites of the beginning, and seeing the first implementations of more graphic based sites, there was a three-year lapse where I rarely got to surfing and missed a whole evolution in web page. When I returned in full to surfing, I discovered the face of the internet have started to change. Buttons with
A Markup Language or “ML” can be defined as the programming language that is used during web design or development to create or build a website. (Kyrnin, J. 2 December 2011, What are Markup Languages?). In the INFO101 course here at Victoria University of Wellington we are required to familiarise ourselves with two specific markup languages: Hyper Text Markup Language (HTML) and Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). (School of Information Management, VUW, March 2014, Part One – Introduction to HTML and Basic Formatting). It is also important to note that there are many different variations of markup languages in operation. Additional ones worth mention include: Extensible Markup Language (XML), Standard Generalised Markup Language (SGML) and Extensible Hyper Text Markup Language (XHTML). (Kyrnin, J. 2 December 2011, What are Markup Languages?). I will focus primarily on HTML, as it is the central focus of our first workshop assignment.
HTML enables pictures and questions be implanted and can be utilized to make intuitive structures. It provides a different way to make structured reports by meaning basic semantics for content, for example, headings, passages, records, connections, cites and different things. It can install contents composed in dialects, for example, JavaScript which influence the conduct of HTML web pages.
