Advantages and Disadvantages of Easily Obtainable Information The rise of technology has shaped our generation in so many ways. As a child, I remember going to the library and checking out books when I had a paper or project due for class. As I got older the need for finding books or publications for research purposes decreased considerably. As I entered middle school, a class was being taught on computer literacy, and looking back on that class I see how important it was to get started early. I can only recall one time in the last three years where I stepped foot into a public library, and that was to place my vote for the 2016 presidential election. The fact that I can hop on my phone, and search anything I could possibly want to know about, and that information be displayed in a matter of seconds is an amazing and wonderful thing. The downside to the capability of information at your fingertips is that it causes people (including myself) to be lazy. Vocabulary and literacy levels are lower now, because you don’t have to read several books to find what you are looking for. I loved reading for pleasure when I was younger, and still do, but that was because I was required to read more to find answers to questions. Siri and Google have almost eliminated the need to do such research.
Advantages and Disadvantages of Social Media With the rise of technology came the creation of social media.
It has become extremely common for an individual to sign into their Facebook account, and see a picture that they feel exposed a little too much. Check into their Instagram account, and regret letting everyone know what their location was. Feel uncomfortable, or bullied by a tweet that a person posted to their Twitter. Per Farheen’s article on negative effects of social media “participating in social media sites such as these can make you feel more connected” (Sagheer 1). It is not okay for individuals to feel victimized due to the negative effects of social media. Social media tends to distract, humiliate, and destroy one-self through entertainment. If people would donate more time to things more supplemental to their growth, and limit their use of social media, then maybe people would stop walking over the harm that social media presents to our community. Monitoring the time invested into social media will help eliminate most of the detriment, privacy issues, and bullying flowing through today’s society.
In the growing world technology is becoming more advance, the ways we communicate are as well. The form that this communication takes on social media and when that is applied and used in an organization it is called enterprise social media or networking. Using social media has allowed the people of this world to converse with the push of a button over multiple ways. As with face-to-face communication or email, social media providing means for a company as means for a communication can provide barriers. For organizations, social media could provide many profitable advantages as well as consequences with disadvantages.
Business dictionary defines social media as an "internet or cellular phone based applications with tools to share information among people. Social media includes popular networking websites, such as Facebook and Twitter; as well as bookmarking sites like Reddit. Social media involves blogging, forums and any aspect of an interactive presentation which allows individuals the ability to engage in conversations with one another, often as a discussion over a particular blog post, news article, or event.” (www.businessdictionary.com).
The internet and the raise of social media have both dramatically changed the way people interact, access information, created opportunities for personal expression, but also new forms of exploitation. Before the introduction of the internet the most common forms of communication were letters, phone calls, but now instance direct communication such as texting, and email allows users to easily stay and maintain relationships. Individuals and families living heavily driven social media world will have several positive and negative factors that influence their development.
Social media is basically applicable internet apps that allow users to create their own media and interact with others while online. It takes many ways of media to use social media. For instance, Snapchat uses filters to make a picture something different. Facebook provides boards on which users post videos, photos, and websites. YouTube allows people to upload videos of their own on their own online pages. Facebook also has Messenger, a place where Facebook users can message each other freely. This is not always a good things. It sometimes makes it easier for cyberbullying and mean posts.
Social media is a way for people to communicate anywhere and at any time. Some people think that it is beneficial to have in society. Although, many people are starting to see negative effects arise from the use of social media as well. These negative effects are increasing and becoming more problematic every day. The disadvantages of social media far outweigh the advantages. Social media effects everyone in society, especially teenagers by negatively impacting their lives, face-to-face interactions, and mental health.

There are many effects that stem from Internet usage. According to Nielsen, Internet users continue to spend more time with social media sites than any other type of site. For content contributors, the benefits of participating in social media have gone beyond simply social sharing to building reputation and bringing in career opportunities and monetary income, as discussed in Tang, Gu, and Whinston (2012).
Before anything else we would start with the quote, "Safety is a cheap and effective insurance policy." In any angle, this quote is a fact and applies on each one of us in our day to day battle with what we call life. It is indeed a cheap but effective way of being safe not just physically but also, mentally and socially. Sometimes, when a person is too much pleased, they intend to forget a lot of things, including their safety. Well, we can 't stop these problems and threats but, we could avoid or prevent it from happening.
Social networking can be a fantastic source to set up cold calls. And, pending how your networking conversation goes the call may not be as cold as the rest. Social network usually does not get into direct sales. I have only seen one instance where three people moved to a secluded table and started filling out a purchase order. Most contacts share information and set up future communications.
Social media can significantly impact a company in both a positive and adverse way. Social media is a great way for a company to market their products and services. Society spends a vast majority of time on social media as it continues to evolve and take over the world. With technology being readily accessible to everyone and from anywhere, it’s no wonder why corporations must rely on social media platforms.
Social media has become an important part of our daily life. Unfortunately, over-sharing information via social media is rapidly becoming the norm in our society. In 2014, Facebook already claimed to have over 1.23 billion users (Warnick, Bitters, Falk & Kim, 2016, p.772) Typical Facebook users commonly share pictures, updates, and personal interactions via chats and emails. Incredibly, people can connect with each other across the globe in matters of an instant (Pappas, 2013). This means information, good or bad, is passed by using a mere click and most often without regard to the ramifications.
How well are you actually protected on social media? Many people have mixed emotions about social media. While there are many advantages to using social media, there are also some disadvantages as well. According to the article “Could You Become a Mean Meme?” by Kristen Lewis, “Even the strictest privacy settings aren’t foolproof.” Thankfully, however, there are ways to protect yourself.
It is the most effective and time efficient way to reach a large customer base. It is the best way to show your fans your business and receive their feedback. Using a social media platform is a very effective way to market your business to your advantage. Imagine launching a new product and it receives 1 million responses in a matter of minutes. That would not be possible without the many social media platforms available today.

It has created a new kind of connection that will never be able to be matched, and is vital to our generation. With something that is still considered fairly new technology, it’s no surprise that there are concerns about its validity as a positive force in our lives. Social media, although surrounding it is a lot of controversy, is such a vital tool that we are lucky to be able to take advantage of in our world.
