ACL injury had a lasting effect on them. The first athlete that will be studied is Derrick Rose. Derrick Rose is a professional basketball player for the Chicago Bulls. Before his ACL injury, Derrick Rose spent one year in college and attended the University of Memphis. In his time at Memphis, as an eighteen year old, Rose averaged nearly 15 points and 5 assists per game as the starting point guard (Sports Reference LLC, 2000-2016 A). Rose led his team to the national championship game as a freshman, and eventually was drafter first overall into the NBA to play for the Chicago Bulls. In his first three seasons in the NBA, Rose had massive success. He earned the honor of being Rookie of the Year and led his team to the playoffs for 4 straight …show more content…
Tom Brady is a professional football player. He plays quarterback for the New England Patriots. At the beginning of his career, he was a backup, so the statistics prior the year 2001 will not be examined. But, in 2001, Tom Brady had fairly good statistics for a young quarterback. In his first season, Brady averaged a 63.9% pass completion rate, 189.5 yards thrown per game, threw for 18 touchdowns, and had an average quarterback rating (QBR) of 86.5 (NFL Enterprises LLC., 2016). The QBR is a statistic run by the NFL which takes into account many factors of play from a quarterback and gives an all-around efficiency rating. The average QBR is 100. In 2001, Brady also led his team to his first Super Bowl win. From there, Brady steadily increased or maintained his high quality statistics through the 2007 season, winning two more Super Bowls in 2003 and 2004 (2016 A). Then in the first game of the New England Patriots’ 2008 season, Brady was hit in the lateral side of his knee as he was planting to make a pass. Immediately, Brady fell to the ground and the training staff rushed onto the field. It would later be announced that Brady had torn his MCL and ACL. Brady’s recovery from his injury would turn out to be vastly different from that of Derrick …show more content…
This is the exact opposite of what happened with Derrick Rose. Brady’s surgeon was quoted as saying, “Let’s face it, guys that are athletes like him, they’re strung together different” (Farmer, 2009). This is apparently true with the averages that Brady has kept up even through the 2015-16 NFL season. Something about Tom Brady let him excel in his sport, even after a catastrophic injury. This was most likely due to his mental strength that was alluded to by his surgeon. Brady did not allow himself to get into the negative train of thought that can come from an injury. This seemed to have a drastic impact on the lasting effects of his ACL
In Frank Bruni’s article “Can We Talk About Tom Brady’s Brain?”, there are several pieces of information provided that prove Bruni’s main argument that Tom Brady’s brain is being negatively impacted by his long football career. Bruni makes it clear that he believes Brady is putting his future at jeopardy by continuing to play professional football amidst worries about the damaging effects of repeated blows to players’ heads and brains during games.

Mike Webster, Joseph Chernach, and Chris Borland all either have concerns of brain injuries or already have them, like CTE; All three of these individuals have the same common denominator, they played tackle football at a young age. That common denominator should be eliminated to reduce those high risks of brain injuries, and still be able to lead or pursue a successful football career like Tom Brady, Peyton and Eli Manning.
Draft picks and free agent signings by the other teams in the AFC East always get people excited. “This is the year the Pats fall off,” they say. But 13 out of the last 15 seasons, the Patriots have been in the postseason, with little reason to believe that circumstance should change this year. With four weeks off to start the season, and should the Patriots reach the playoffs for the 14th time in 16 seasons, Brady could be the healthiest he has been in a while heading into the postseason. That is a scary thought for the rest of the
After playing college football for the University of Michigan, Tom Brady was drafted by the Patriots in the sixth round of the 2000 NFL draft. In Brady's 13 full seasons as a starter (he missed nearly all of 2008 with a torn ACL),[4][5] the Patriots have earned six trips to the Super Bowl, winning four. Brady has won three Super Bowl MVP awards, two league MVP awards (2007, 2010), has been selected to ten Pro Bowls, and has led the Patriots to more division titles than any other quarterback in NFL history, with twelve. Brady is fifth on the all-time list for career passing yards and fifth for career touchdown passes. His career postseason record is 21–8; his playoff win total is the most in NFL history. He helped set the record for the longest

On the field, Tom Brady has that fire and confidence you want your quarterback to have, but off the field and
Tom Brady deserves to be on my ESPN magazine cover because he the greatest football player of all time. He is a 5x Super Bowl Champion, 4x Super Bowl MVP, and a 12x time Pro Bowler. Tom Brady has conquered an enormous amount of adversity. Tom Brady struggled to earn a starting spot at the University of Michigan throughout his college career. After he finished college, he continued to face adversity in the NFL. At the combine Brady was seen as one of the lowest quarterbacks in the combine. He ran a 5.28 on the 40 yard dash and this combine report was written about him: poor build, skinny, lacks great physical stature and strength, lacks mobility and ability to avoid the rush, lacks a really strong arm, can’t drive the ball downfield, does not
For a brief overview, he had to sit out the first 4 games of this season without due to his involvement in the infamous Deflategate scandal. Findings from the Well Reports were the main reasons behind his suspension . An analysis by the American Enterprise Institute this June, however, found the report “deeply flaws”. Sources close to Brady revealed he wanted all of his suspension removed and that he thought he did nothing wrong.
When he played in high school he not only led the team to a record of 34-5, but he also was known for throwing more than 7,000 yards (“Peyton Manning.”). During his college years he broke even more records with his amazing accuracy setting an astonishing 42 conference, school and NCAA records. “In all, he passed for 11,201 yards, registered 863 completions and connected for 89 touchdowns” (“Peyton Manning.”). When he was in the NFL he made the rookie record for touchdowns, attempts, passing yards, and completions. This first few years in the NFL weren’t his best, but he made a comeback when he signed with the Colts. Winning his first MVP award in 2003 he became the first player in the NFL to receive it four more times(“Peyton Manning.”).
We are here today to recognize and celebrate Tom Brady becoming the winningest quarterback in NFL history. The 4th of December marked the time where Tom’s number of wins exceeded Peyton Manning 's to mark him as the quarterback with the most wins in NFL history. 201 is the number and everyone in New England has been diligently counting Tom’s wins since Peyton Manning retired. Like every New England sports fan, Tom is my guy and I will put my money on him against any opponent. You may think I’m being too informal when I address Tom Brady as Tom, but it’s what we do in New England. 99% of us do not have a direct relationship with Tom, but we have an indescribable connection that gives us the right to call him Tom.
To start off, Tom Brady has broken a lot of records. Some of his records include the most super bowl wins by a quarterback, most super bowl MVP selections, has won twenty five of the thirty four playoff games he has started in, has been selected to twelve pro bowls, and he has the most divisions won by a single quarterback (Doeden). For instance, he also has led the Patriots from a losing team to a winning team. With Tom Brady starting at quarterback the Patriots have never had a losing season (Doeden). In addition, he also has broken records for his stats. One of the records he broke was the best Touchdown to interception ratio of 28-2, because of this he wants to play until he is fourth eight (Reyes). At this years Super Bowl he had a great game. The Patriots overcame a twenty five point deficit and took the game to the first Super Bowl overtime game, he threw his first post season pick six ever after playing in thirty four playoff games, and in the last six possessions of the game he lead his team to four touchdowns and a field goal (Craig). After all, he did this all while his family was going through tough times. His mom was battling cancer and Brady dedicated the win to her (Hofforth). This is why Tom Brady is the best quarterback to ever live.
After a great collegiate career Derrick Rose got selected by the Chicago Bulls in the first round of the NBA Draft. Derrick won rookie of the year honors and lead the struggling Bulls back into the playoffs. The next 3 season Derrick would play great and earn the most valuable player honors for 2010-2011 season.
Tom Brady is the quarterback for the New England Patriots of the NFL. With his eight Super Bowl appearances, and unprecedented five Super Bowl wins, he’s been labeled by many as the greatest quarterback in the history of football. Many attribute this to his hard work off the field, and leadership on the field. In my personal analysis, we’ve never seen a player like Brady. Someone who just finds a way to win, against all odds. Whether it be working against opposing defenses, haters, or even the league itself, Brady just has a knack for winning. This had led him to become the winningest player in NFL history. People close to him have said that this attitude of “needing to win” has been present since his high school career. As a backup on his
