Red Fern South Dakota has always been a quiet town, where only the trees made a sound when the wind blew, and when the dogs barked when someone drove by. A girl about five years old by the name of Jordan grew up on a little farm two miles away from Red Fern; her mother, Kristina, had a tough time keeping a sound eye on her. Amidst the cow lot and lake beds she was constantly somewhere unknown; Jordan would be under the bed, in the toy box, and outside in the hay bales. Jordan loved being outside. She found herself making tea in an old coffee can, the tea consisted of grass, berries from evergreen tree, and even rocks. She would stir it together with a stick, until the water turned a pear green. Jordan would filter the green mixture through …show more content…
“Oh, there you are” her mother would reply Jordan would giggle, then run back out the back door with no shoes on. For a few days Jordan came inside the house limping on one foot, crying to her mother, “Mommy, I got cactus stuck in my foot” her mother would sit there with tweezers, pulling out each spine from the heel of her foot Jordan flinching each time she yanked one out. As soon as her mother was done, she'd look at her mother thankful she could help her, but still a tear still rolled down her face onto the floor from the surging pain now in her foot. Her mother would look at her in the eyes and repeat “You better learn how to wear your shoes” Jordan would nod, then limp off to her room to take a nap. One day, Jordan opened her eyes, she looked out the door and found her mother to be in the yard digging up cactus in the yard. Jordan made sure to put on some shoes and ran outside hiding around the corner of the house. Her mother saw her peeking around the corner of her house and said “Jordan, do you want to come help me?” Jordan smiled disappearing back around the house. She ran around the other side of the house trying to make her mother to jump. Kristina would giggle and say “Get over here you little turd” Jordan would run up to her mother, hug her, then look up at her saying “I love you mom” as her mother looked down …show more content…
Her neighbor Gerald a friendly old man would ask her to bale hay for him every year due to he was getting old. Gerald would pay her $1.08 for each bale of hay she made. Gerald would watch, smiling and waving, then he would head home when he knew she was doing her job correctly. When Jordan was done, she would call him asking if that’s all he had for her to do. He was blessed to have her help, but just when she hopped in her pickup to leave. He would always come over thanking her, wishing there would be a bigger amount of hard working, grateful kids like her. On August twenty fourth, her birthday, he handed her a fifty dollar bill. She sat speechless looking at the bill as she had never seen one before. She smiled getting out of the pickup to hug Gerald. Jordan always looked up to him, she thought he was the kindest person she had ever met. Although she came home every afternoon from working for different neighbors either picking square bail’s with the Johnsons to planting gardens with Mrs. Rose she loved every bit of it. Jordan grew to love her parents and the people in her small community as if they were her own

He stepped into the headlight of my car as a ground-shaking BOOM following a massive burst of light shook the earth.
After a long mountainous drive, I arrived at my destination to embrace one of nature’s wonders in the Great Smokey Mountain National Park, Abram Falls Trail. Upon departing the car, a cool crisp breeze brushed my face and the aroma of bacon lingered in the early morning air from the neighboring campground. The narrow rocky footpath looked like a tedious adventure, however a gorgeous, vibrant array of red, purple, orange, and yellow wildflowers blossoming at the entrance made the trail alluring. Navigating the rocky, uneven terrain required sturdy footing, but the quiet stillness created a peaceful relaxing atmosphere. The lush pine-oak forest formed a green canopy of shelter above the trail, offering welcome cool shade, as vivid sunlight filtered through the foliage. A sweet honey fragrance permeated the air, as a stunning scene displayed a cluster of purple and pure white
At the orphanage Deprince found a magazine with a ballerina on front of it, at first she did not know what it was but she knew that she wanted to do what the ballerina was doing. “She was standing on the very tips of her toes. ‘Isn’t that a funny way to walk?’ Mabinty Suma asked. ‘Hmm, I think she might be dancing,’ I said.
Born to a family of 8 siblings on June 20, 1953 in Del Rio Texas, my grandmother’s story had started.Back in the year of 1955 her mother had been working as a maid at the hotel called Francisco Grande Hotel (training hotel for the San Francisco Giants),making 80 cents an hour, while her father had been working with Cesar Chavez’s farm labor organization. They moved to Stanfield, Arizona during 1955, because her father had to work for the ranchers in the tractor fields. For chores on Saturday’s everyone in the family had to pick a room and clean that room, my grandmother’s prefered room to clean was the living room. On her spare time she liked to hang out with her friends such as going to see a movie or going to the mall.
Grand Teton National Park is wonderful to visit any time of year, but Fall is my favorite. Autumn brings many wonderful things to the Tetons, but one thing it takes away are the large crowds of summer. Whew!
There was a couple named Kiowa and Muraco. They've been together for 8 years. They had a beautiful, healthy baby girl. Her name was Cherokee. Kiowa and Muraco loved Cherokee so much but they knew they couldn't keep Cherokee because they were poor. They had no money to take care of Cherokee. Everyday they struggled to find food and water. Days went by and Kiowa was starting to get sick. Each day it got worse and worse. Her skin was turning red, her eyes were puffy and she constantly coughed and sneezed. Kiowa told Muraco she didn't feel good and she felt like she was going to die soon. On the fourth day, Kiowa died and Muraco was left to raise Cherokee by himself. Muraco knew nothing about raising kids. He was scared. He didn't know what to do so he decided to find help.
Every year my family goes camping at the palisades, we tell stories, and jokes and sit around the campfire in the mornings. Then we go 4-wheeling, there is nothing like looking out through your goggles and seeing a blue sky and mountains, and that fresh smell of forest is amazing. I can't imagine this being taken away from me, if we don't start to combat the silence then I will have limited memories in the wilderness. If WSA (wyoming studie areas) specialist take this away my kids and future generations I will not be able to enjoy the same things I did growing up, and I don't want that to happen. Take a second to imagine Jackson Hole, Wyoming with out hiking, biking, snowmobiling, cutting down a Christmas tree, 4-wheeling, and fishing. This is a very big possibility if we let WSA take this land from us, we CANNOT let this happen.
About thirty miles off the highway and down a dirt road, you'll see the silhouette of a woman inside her house. She is exhausted, staring as the dust from the dirt floor mixes with the sunlight flowing through the holes the walls. She looks around and knows her life is in shambles. Her house is nothing more than rotting boards and rusted metal roofing. She has no electricity or indoor plumbing. Her only furniture is a moth-eaten couch and two old mattresses sprawled across the floor. Every day she must go to the river four miles from her house. Here she gets her drinking water and does the laundry. The neighbor children will follow her and play games. They are wearing
It was mid november in the ozarks. A small mountain range located in the heart of the midwest. The trees are beautiful and the day is quite. One of the dead lies about 20 feet in front of me. I don't want to shoot him but he sees me. He starts to walk towards me. Although it doesn't look much like a walk. Its lifeless with no objective it justs walks, endlessly seeking nothing but what drives it to be alive. Human flesh, it's been 3 years now since the outbreak. Nobody knows how it started or where it came from. However it came hard and fast the first year was a nightmare, everyone i knew slowly died off. I've been on my own now for about 6 months. Using the wilderness and the rockiness of the ozarks to help keep me alive. The walker is slowly
The town hadn’t changed much since Bonnie had left and ever since she had returned, she felt more out of place then any. Mystic Falls used to be a home that Bonnie could always come back to, no matter how bad life got out there. Since returning, Bonnie hadn’t been able to really take to Caroline or Elena for the simple fact she didn’t know how to even address the subject. It wasn’t her friend’s fault that her Grams was now gone but they did play a key role in it. Coming back was a lot more painful then she had presumed and for safety reasons, she continued to lock herself away from her friends.

My best friend Leah Nepomuceno is one of the strongest people I know, especially when it comes to family. Family to her is everything and she has done all she can to try and keep hers together as a whole. We were in sixth grade swinging on the swings outside at recess, whispering and giggling about our usual gossip when she received news from one of our teachers that we knew was serious by the look on her face and fear in her voice. She came up to us and told her she needed to go the office and that she was being dismissed, she gave me permission to walk with her inside. On the short but long felt walk inside Leah's heart was pounding, her hands were sweating, and her eyes were slowly filling with tears. Her mom was
