Prismacolor is a well known and well liked brand of media in the art world. It has a variety of media to choose from, however in this assignment we shall focus on colored pencils. One of Prismacolor's top competitors is Crayola, who you may think has a monopoly in the art market, preceded by Dewernt and Fabercastle. There is much that goes into choosing a colored pencil beyond the number of colors available from the line in question. For example and artist will look for a brand that produces quality pigmentation and value. If a colored pencil can create dark lines with little effort as well as faint lines it is a good choice. The Prismacolor pencils can do that with no problem so can the Crayola pencils to a degree, but there is a slight difference in value from the pigmentation agent in the pencil themselves. While Prismacolor has three types of pencils for different uses. The classic colored pencils have 60 colors, the soft core colored pencils used for blending and shading have 150 shades and colors, and the Verithin or detail pencils have 36 colors to choose from (Prismacolor). The pencils themselves are made of differing quality materials and therefore are different quality altogether. Crayola colored pencils just do not have the same blending capabilities or pigment quality as Prismacolor. They have a hard time blending at all to be honest and no shading ability without damaging the paper. Variety is the spice of life and Crayola is severely lacking
