The way I have helped my community is by volunteering for Friends of Coos County Animal Shelter (FOCCAS). Their mission statement is: “Friends of Coos County Animals, Inc. is organized exclusively for charitable purposes, and specifically to support and enhance services for the Coos County Animal Shelter including organizations and causes that promote animal welfare” (Friends of Coos County Animal Shelter). While I was volunteering for this organization I helped out at their booth in the mall, where they try to find these animals homes.
My family and I helped by fostering animals. Fostering animals is when you take these animals into your home and care for them like they are yours until they are adopted. The length of time these animals are

I’m only human and have gotten attached, but for me the hardest animal to give back was a small mix breed puppy. We had named this puppy Milo. Milo came to our house with his two litter mates. His litter mates were healthy and were fixed and adopted within a few weeks, however Milo wasn’t so lucky. He was the runt of the litter and had infections in both eyes. To help get rid of the infections I had to put medicine in his eyes multiple times a day. He was so small and weak my mom and I were both worried he might get cold in the middle of the night, so to keep him warm he slept in my bed with me in a cocoon of blankets. After a few weeks Milo’s eyes started to clear up. When we took him to the vet they were surprised by how well his eyes had healed. They told us when they first say him they didn’t think his eyes would have healed so well. I took care of Milo for about a month, so by the time it was time to give him back it was hard to let them take him. I think the reason this one was different the other times I had gotten attached was because I nursed him back to health and he became like my baby.
Helping FOCCAS was an amazing experience even though it was hard sometimes. I learned so many things and got to experience many new things. I like to think that I helped the animals find their humans. If I had the choice to do it all over again, I would in a
I have been a part of different activities for my community service. I have helped the TLC preschool afterschool with cleaning tables and toys once all the children have gone home. I have also been to the shelly baird school where they disabled kids go for schooling and helped out there with the students doing their work and played games .I am currently in “Dude Be Nice Club” and recently we participated in project night night where we would gather donated security blankets a book or stuffed animal and deliver them to children who have very little in homeless shelters. My community service in this case helped me realize that there are people out there who need some encouragement to help them get back on their feet and realize in life that
In regard to community, I have volunteered for my clubs, DECA (Distributive Education Clubs of America), BPA (Business Professionals of America), NTHS (National Technical Honor Society), Cross Country and others. From helping the club itself to representing the club through charitable acts, such as making christmas a little better for military families, or helping at assisted living centers. My parents taught me at a young age how to be a considerate
I never seen so many abandon animals in a shelter before, it was really sad. Caring and helping them out made me feel good about myself. Even though half of my job was pretty messy it was worth it. I remember washing this puppy all covered in dirt, I thought to myself why anyone would do such a thing to the pour animal. One time I even got a chance to go to the
The Easter egg hunt was designed for children in the church community. Another event I volunteered in was making prayer blankets for the homeless. A prayer blanket is two pieces of fabric connected by knots, and with every knot tied, a prayer is said for the person the blanket is going to. I also participated in volunteering for the vet. Similarly, my family was a member of the Missouri House Rabbit Society and fostered a total of eight bunnies. We eventually adopted two bunnies named Shannon and Clover. I love to make a difference in my community, even if it was a small deed.
My community involvement began as a Watermelon Princess candidate when I was in elementary school. Since then I have become involved in many different activities. I am in 4-H and we have done several contributions to the community. Every year the Freetown Leprechauns 4-H club makes Christmas ornaments for the nursing home. We go caroling at Hoosier Christian Village in Brownstown and give each patient an ornament. I absolutely love doing this every year. The elderly people love to hear us sing and their faces light up every time. They even request songs for us to sing sometimes. The Freetown Leprechauns have also taken up canned goods for the
I give back to my community by collecting and donating canned goods to my local food bank. I understand the situation from those that need it because my family has had times where we needed the
I am a member of National Honor Society. We volunteer and help people in anyway we can. So far I have about 20 hrs of community service. I helped my teacher moved everything in his class during the summer. I helped an old woman raked leaves in her backyard. I volunteered to assist my high school's registration. I lend a hand to elementary school children and basically played and watched them. I assisted a youth wrestling tournament. There are many more services in which I hoped to help out.
I do many severces to my community. I give money and support PETA against animal cruelty. I donate to many organizations such as Doctors Without Borders and St.Jude's
For my community engagement I choose to volunteer at the SPCA here is Salmon Arm. I am still continuing to volunteer and hope to for the rest of the two years I am in Salmon Arm. It has been a really awesome experience, and I have learnt a lot from spending time there. So many animals are mistreat, seen as disposable, and forgotten which lands them in the shelter. Most of these animals are so sweet and just want some love but their families no longer want them. There are so many sick people in this world that treat innocent animals with such cruelty; it is honestly one of the most heart breaking things I have seen. It makes me think about all the horrible things that happen daily in this world, either to animals or people. That has pushed me
Our blessing isn’t just for us, but for the recovering owner. This duality makes the sacrifice of our time that much more special. The idea of sacrifice, and the concept of fostering has taught me to be more aware of other people. I have broadened my perspective of not what is just good for me, or good for my family, or even friends, but what is good for complete strangers and the world as a whole. I have learned that any good act can be rewarding even if it doesn’t have direct or clear benefits. While fostering this dog, whenever I was brought down by the inevitability of losing him, I pictured his owner overjoyed at seeing this tiny puppy.
We are helping animals. I chose this topic because I have a pet myself and I enjoy taking care of my pet. I like animals and everything about them, so that is why I chose to save pets and try to get them a loving owner. My purpose is to get donations, so we can donate to pet owners who can’t afford to take care of their pet/pets and find our shelter animals homes. I also want to decrease the population of homeless animals in Kentucky. My goals are to save at least 10,000 animals and get at least 1,000 adoptions a year.
Since my cat Muffin was euthanized (put to sleep) three years ago, I have always found a desire to help animals. I was really sad when Muffin got really sick and I felt helpless to her. She had two surgeries but the vet still couldn’t find out what was wrong.
I have been volunteering in the New Albany community since 2012. I started by helping out at the local church, Five14. At Five14 I watch the kids while their parents go to the service. While watching the kids I am responsible for the task of teaching these children about God and Jesus. This a a positive and productive activity because I am able to work hand in hand with these young children and I get to see how I can help change their life with the help of God. Ever since I have started helping at the church I have seen lives being changed every week because the kids are now trying to use God in their lives everyday. This then contributes back to the community because when the kids start to change and act in better behaviors at a younger age it helps them to not grow into bad habits and bad choices later in life.
When I was young, and living in Duluth, Minnesota, I loved animals and still do. My three sisters and I would take in any creature we found and help it survive or keep it warm. Our family We were only children and didn’t know any better, but Addie found a dead mouse in our yard and brought it into the house. She kept him and named him Freddy. When my mom asked her what she was going to do with him she replied, “We can take him out and look at him.” We had him for about a week until our mom got rid of him because of the smell. We were devastated but eventually found ourselves new pets to care for. One of which, was a chipmunk.
I have always been very active in my local community. I am a member of several volunteer groups, from PAWS (an animal welfare organization), to my town recreation center youth program.
