Continuing Academic Success

"Academic integrity is the pursuit of scholarly activity in an open, honest and responsible manner. All students should act with personal integrity, respect other students' dignity, rights and property, and help create and maintain an environment in which all can succeed through the fruits of their efforts."

While being responsible for our academic success, prioritizing work to achieve goals can be valuable to students without a success driven mindset. Responsibility and action along with ethics help set the path for proper results and set standards for academic achievement. As I explore this new endeavor in my life, I will outline my failures, successes and the lessons I have learned along the way.

According to Merriam-Webster, ethics is defined as an area of study that deals with ideas about what is good and bad behavior. Some would argue that definition is rather vague. A more complete understanding of ethics would suggest that it is more than just an area of study but rather a way of life; moral principles that govern a person's or group's behavior. If one is ethical and has good moral standards, it is usually seen in that person. Simply put, ethics could be considered the standards of behavior as to which society accepts.

Ethics are principles that are kept throughout one’s life so that he/she maintains a respectable level of honest value. Based on my moral outlook on life, my view of ethics may differ to that of many in this class. The reason for that is ethics partially depends on the individual feelings of a given situation. For example, some cultures believe that it’s unethical to have multiple partners, but in other cultures, you find that this is the norm. In learning my critical thinking traits, I have discovered that I need to get the facts together and evaluate them based on my ethical characteristics. This process of thinking has directed me to understand that things have to be understood and communicated correctly in order to paint the picture of information that I want others to see or hear. Academic ethics are the moral codes or the shared standards of an academic enterprise and the core of its success (Occidental College, 2016). Basically, academic ethics require each student, to be honest, responsible, fair, respectful, give credit where it is due, turn in their original work, and etc. (Michigan State University, n.d.). Academic integrity requires students to do their own work without unauthorized help from others, cheating, lying, plagiarizing, and stealing (Valdosta State University, 2016). Academic integrity is important because it shows that the student is trustworthy and honest enough to do his or her own work, whether someone is looking or not. “Learning how to express original ideas, cite sources, work independently, and report results accurately and honestly are skills that carry students beyond their academic careers” (Michigan State University, n.d., para. 2).

In my opinion, Academic Integrity is the honesty of its own work done in University. We are doing assignments, essays, and exams every week or month to prove our academic skills based on our classes.

Those styles are visual, auditory, and tactile/kinesthetic. To simplify the learning style into words that are easier to comprehend and remember visual means to see, auditory means to hear and tactile/kinesthetic means to touch. As humans, all of these or a combination of all three of these learning styles, in a single person, is used on a daily basis. To better understand these learning styles, a brief but thorough description is going to be provided.

As an auditory learner, I learn by hearing and listening. On the contrary, the visual learners mainly learn by seeing and favour studying through visually engaging materials. On the other hand, kinaesthetic learners study by creating something. They require physical participation to learn.

As a student strive to move forward academic success and excellence, I will outline and discuss four major topics which are essential for any student to realize in order to achieve success in the field. Each topic will be briefly described with further two support points in favor of each underneath. The point is to explain what can propel a student toward realizing educational goals, achieving academic integrity by realizing its importance, efficient utilization of the university?s resources, maintain educational goals for self-development and the importance of writing process in advancing studies and career.

Academic integrity holds a great deal of weight. This includes honesty in the work produced, as well as being able to accomplish the work. Responsibility in addition plays important factor into integrity. I see

“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.” (Mendela). As Nelson Mendela so eloquently states, an education proves exceedingly powerful and can have a truly positive impact. In order to realize that level of academic success, though, certain essential qualities are imperative, including the following. Internal motivation plays a basic key role in one’s ability to move forward with his education. Organizational skills can especially help those who struggle to keep track of homework. Additionally, the ability to concentrate can make an impactful difference to those who become easily distracted.

I have come a long way, before I was the one asking help for problems. Now, people left and right ask my help on things I could care less. However, because I’m a nice person, I take my time out to help them with their problems. My intellectual skills have launched my student life to places I couldn’t have dreamed. Despite my academic success, I have been struggling to balance my academic life over my social life. Sometimes, I feel that one should dominate over the other, preferably the academics over the social. And to complicate the issue, my intuition and determination has caused me to gain attention among others, forcing me to adopt some social skills. Even though I felt that my awkwardness was holding me back, my number of friends had grown
