The main character Katniss from the novel The Hunger Games also has to endure an extremely tyrannical society. The children of the districts are forced to put their names in a lottery every year once they come to a certain age to be thrown into an arena to fight to the death with the other children of the districts. They are forced to do this because of a long past rebellion against the Capitol, as a reminder that the Capitol cannot be beat. The winner receives riches and food for themselves and their families, while the people in their district and the rest continue to starve and struggle to live with the little the “Capitol” allows them (Collins). The societies in both of these novels are held back from their own personal desires and needs to enforce the law and will of the dystopian authority. Novels like these seem to be giving a us in the real world a look of how things could be if certain things continue the way they are. Both main characters of these novels go through a self-awareness that is helped along by the people they encounter. This gives the audience a way to relate to the characters because they too go through things in their reality that may cause them to re-evaluate the way they think and believe. Throughout her story, Katniss encounters many feelings she has never known before. She is still very young and is just coming into to her own as a woman. She also has to struggle with a leaving her family and facing the reality that she will have to kill someone
Another important idea that Katniss makes the audience think of is Love. She helps the audience see this because the main driving point of the novel is Katniss’s love for Prim. This is the reason she volunteered for her at the reaping and why she is in the Hunger Games in the first place. This love is shown when she buys Prim her goat, “She (Prim) was so excited she started crying and laughing all at once.” This tells us that Katniss was willing to spend her money on a goat for Prim that she could’ve spent on something else that would’ve given them better prospects or saved the money. Instead, she chose to give her sister something that she could look after, love and give her lasting memories of fun and happiness. Katniss also shows love for Peeta when she nurses him back to health in the cave. Even when she thought that their love was fictional she still fought to get to him and helped save his life when he was
The dystopian protagonist that is present in the Hunger Games is Katniss Everdeen. “Finally, I am too restless to even stay in bed. I pace the floor, heart beating too fast, breathing too short. My room feels like a prison cell. I run down hall to the door to the roof. The energy field enclosing the roof prevents any desperate form of escape” (Collins 148) Katniss is often struggling to escape or feels like she’s trap, she knows that she’s a tribute in the hunger games and is afraid that she will never see her family again if she doesn’t come out as the victor. Through Katniss’s perspective you can easily recognize that there is something wrong with the society that she lives in. “ I want to do something, right here, right now, to shame them, to make them accountable, to show the Capitol whatever they do or force us to do there is a part of every tribute they can’t own” (Collins 237). Katniss knows that the Capitol is cruel and wrong for having the hunger games, forcing the tributes to kill one another
Until page 50 it was a perfect beginning , and I had a good time in reading this pages and a lot of something to learn and something make me feel interest, such as, the deep description of the characters, places, and even food which made me feel the moment and as if I were living with them. Also, the way that the author had depicted how people suffered because of the hanger and poverty. Another thing that I want to notice about is that girl – Katniss – who was the ideal sister and daughter, when she prefers to go to The Hunger Games instead of her sister – Prim- ,and when she takes care of her ill mother. Furthermore, while all the bad things that happened to her and all the responsibilities that placed on her, but it didn't prevented her

Throughout her story, Katniss encounters many feelings she has never known before. She is still very young and is just coming into to her own as a woman. She also has to struggle with a leaving her family and facing the reality that she will have to kill someone who loves her to make sure of her and her families’ survival. She has to make some very difficult decisions and is forced to look deep into herself to discover some things she never knew about herself. As the story develops, so does Katniss , and the strength of her character emerges (Collins). Montag also has an epiphany. He begins to wonder and question his world and why things are the way they are. He wants to know why the books are illegal and his curiosity begins to grow ever bigger about what is inside the books. He also meets a girl, Clarisse, who helps him to realize how truly unhappy he is. She asks him “Are you happy?” (Bradbury 7) His wife also helps him to see how the government is wrong in brainwashing the society with technology, as she accidentally overdoses on sleeping pills and is completely oblivious the next day. He increasingly rebels against all he has known so far and gets himself farther and
Katniss is coming off of her first Hunger Games victory. She is starting to become very moody and “Fake”.Katniss is also forced to marry her husband to be Peeta, who she doesn’t like. The love of her life Gale is being tortured by the Capitol. Gale being tortured sets off the mood twists in this book. The only time she likes Peeta over Gale is when Peeta saves gales life.
Love can affect the decision a person makes. One major aspect the over in both the book and the movie is the stress that Katniss goes through by not making decision that might kill her family. In the book, Katniss is accounted by President Snow and is threaten to not make decisions that will spark a rebellion. More than half the book includes the conflict of rebellion unlike the movie which more than half of the movie is focusing on the Games. Because the movie did not focus on the rebellion, the viewer don’t fully understand why President Snow is attacking Katniss.
In the first part readers see the thing of caring for others. Susan collins wrote a part where Katniss sister was picked and she took her place. This shows that everybody that got picked didn't get a person to take her place. Right away people see that she really cares about her sister. In the story it says “I volunteer as tribute”(Collins 22).When people saw this people knew that she didn't care if she died but it was for someone she loved.
Can you imagine the feeling knowing that at anytime, a close one could be taken away. A best friend could be stolen. A family member could be killed. Even yourself could be sacrificed for nothing. Do you think that the emotions a family member may encounter, the sadness of an entire community, or even just the thought of dying, is worth it to provide a dominant government their “Hollywood ending”? Well, in the book “The Hunger Games” written by Suzanne Collins, Katniss Everdeen lives in a dystopian society where her community is divided by 13 different groups. Each year, their government randomly selects two participants from each group to play in the Hunger Games, which is a fight to the death among the other participants. In the book, Katniss’
While by the end of the book Katniss's life has almost completely fallen apart. Katniss's grows up and changes into a completely transformed person. She transformed into a person who is damaged and has lost all the faith she had in humanity. She starts out in the book fairly content and ends with utter confusion and loss. Katniss starts out the story as a girl who is mostly content with her life.
Redemption as the overall theme throughout both texts is shown through the act of self-sacrifice, which alludes to they way that Jesus brings redemption to humanity. This is supported in the Bible as Ephesians 1:7 states 7 ‘in whom we have our redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace,’ this quote refers to the sacrifice that Christ made for man kind. It reenforces that it is only through laying down your life for others that life has any purpose at all. Like Jesus, Katniss comes from a very marginalised place in the world. Katniss also has many other attributes that coincide with Christ. She is always serving her loved ones, at the risk of sacrificing herself.
Everyone loves movies. People usually choose movies as their initial option to spend their leisure time. Nowadays, the high technology of cameras and exquisite techniques of filming give the audiences a best quality and high definition of vision. Therefore, watching movie become the most popular activity among the teenages. Different genres of films help us to gain different kinds of informations or knowledges those we would never learn in the reality. If I am given a choice to choose two favourite genres of the movies, I will definitely select adventure and disaster. Both of the genres have their own characteristic and styles. Adventure films are very similar to the action film genre, in that they are designed to provide an action-filled,
In The Hunger Games, Suzanne Collins expresses two themes. The first one is that we can’t let the government use their power to treat, and use people like they want, they are oppressing them. “At one o’clock, we head of the square. Attendance is mandatory unless you are on deaths door. This evening, officials will come around and check to see if this is the case. If not you will be imprisoned.” (Collins, 16) we can see that the Capitol forces the people to participate in the reaping by threatening them. “When I was younger, I scared my mother to death, the things I would blurt out about District 12, about the people who rule our country, Panem, from the far-off city called the Capitol. Eventually I understood this would only lead us to
George Orwell’s Animal Farm and Suzanne Collin’s The Hunger Games have more similarities than one might think. Both pieces have a horribly corrupt government with a single leader getting the best of the best, whether the civilians know it or not. Dystopian fiction tends to follow a pattern. Among the typical motifs are crisis, solution, charismatic leader, and the making of an enemy. Dystopian fiction also always has a visionary, or one to oppose the oppression. While, Old Major and Katniss Everdeen aren’t easily compared, the similarities in their goals really do bring up a good point. Old Major was the inspiration for the totalitarian leader, and Katniss was the one who attempted to stop one. Both had very opposite roles in the books they took part in, but both had a similar goal in mind: to make a better community.
Ideas of sociology play a big role in people’s everyday lives. Many Books and movies consists of the basic ideas of sociology. The film series, The Hunger Games is an example of such a representative movies. The base story of the series include a society, where people are given little to no rights. This story highly relates to the ideas of sociology since it is about a society, its culture and norms. Katniss Everdeen, is the female lead of the movie who rebels for her rights.
The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins illustrates a dystopian society where the government tries to apply a perfect society to maintain the power in all of Panem. The author shows an elaborate and horrifying description of a society not so unlike our own and provides a clear warning about the danger of governmental control. The government of Panem has a government which controls everything. The government shows totalitarianism, a post-apocalyptic setting, and the world ranks. These three main points are what shows how the The Hunger Games is a great example of a dystopian literature.
