Achiever People who have this theme are dedicated to the tasks and work hard to finish the goals. They are energetic and productive all the time, and enjoy the positive outcomes they have achieved. I was a new comer to the United States, at first every thing was fresh to me. The biggest problem I was facing at the first month was language. Although I have learned English for several years when I was in China. The real situation was really different, especially I was enrolled in the Doctor of Pharmacy program, which the curriculum was difficult and challenging. For me, the hardest course was biochemistry. The content was deeper and more related to pharmacy and medication, additionally, I did not even know the basic terminologies in biochemistry.
I have high aspirations upon receiving a diploma and I feel that your school is an excellent select to reach my fullest potential. It is more to me than simply experiencing the college life as I will be the first person in my family to attend any type of college and I hope to make my supporting family proud. I come from a Spanish speaking family thus I have learned to speak English and Spanish fluently. I am honored to possess these abilities because it allows me to maneuver with ease among the various communities and also break the language barriers acting as an interpreter. Due to various factors my parents and family member were not able to finish their education to compensate for the lack of education my family proceeded through life with hard work. This hard work has been a value instilled to us through the generations. With this I have surpassed obstacles that many of my peers doubted I would ever overcome. Graduating college is another goal I will accomplish to prove many wrong.
Former baseball player Tommy Lasorda once said, “The difference between the impossible and the possible lies in a person’s determination.” The journey of our life is full of winding paths and concrete obstacles whose sole goal is to slow us down, and to attempt to block us from reaching our ultimate goal in life, whatever that may be. These barriers are there for several different reasons, whether it be mental or physical. Sometimes these obstacles are motivated by fear, other times they exist simply because we have to make a decision, and that decision can be life changing. But through our determination, and through our perseverance, we can achieve what these barriers told us was impossible, and can pursue the path in our life that leads us to our ultimate self. Throughout my life, I have had thousands of barriers stand in my path. And the only way I was able to defeat them was through conquering my fears, and breaking my limits in order to achieve excellence.
Ever since 8th grade, I have worked hard a lot more when I play volleyball. Right when the varsity coaches asked me to join their practice, I knew that I had to work hard and that it will pay off. Now, at every practice, I would play my heart out even if I was playing with a fractured finger or a rolled ankle.
For my first year study in America, I was placed in the drama class and school Shakespeare play. Although my character only have few lines to present in one scene, it is very hard for a shy international student to performance well in second language. Especially for those arcane Shakespeare style words. In order to achieve a perfect performance, I fully concentrated on considering the deep meaning of my dialogues and figuring out the tone and emotion I suppose to have when I speak out the words as the character. And almost everyday after school, I would go to find my drama teacher to talk about the details and background of my character. I can still remember that she told me the best way to complete a vivid character is to fulfill the information of a character; make him or her a “real person”, which means create hobbies and habits for them. And through making efforts , my character impressed many audience. This experience told me that the passionate attitude and efforts are the inevitable keys to
It seems in the society we live in today, having a college degree is a necessity. Years ago it was the norm for people to just go right into a full time job after high school, if they even finished high school; they did this to support their families. In today’s society a person has a difficult time getting a decent job without a college degree. During an adults working life, bachelor degree graduates will earn about $2.1 million and a high school graduate can expect to earn an average of $1.2 million (Day and Newburger, 2002). This is quite a difference and it puts a college education in
My personal growth is a significant aspect of who I am, moreover, this continues to be a trait I strive to develop. To understand how far I’ve come as a person, you need to see where I came from and what motivated me to change.
“She’s pregnant!? Are you oblivious? Your life is over… Do you not realize what is going to happen? You MUST drop out and work to feed your family from now on! I thought you were smarter than this.” This type of verbal abuse continued in my brother-in-law’s family, but as buoyant as both my sister, and her boyfriend were at age 17, this only fed fuel to their fire for triumph. In this day of age, many unplanned pregnancies throughout young adults have discouraged their higher hopes and dreams. Many use the excuse “reality knocked me off my feet” or “things happen for a reason”. Who gave you this excuse…? Are you not the artist of your own reality? You can perhaps lash back at me with a higher power as the answer. Well, I am here to prove to
If someone asked me where I am going to be in ten years, this would be my answer. I will have a great, high-paying job, and beautiful wife and family, and a nice sports car parked in front of my lovely house. When I look into the future, I see myself being successful and happy. Even though I always pictured myself this way, I never worried too much about how I would get there. I feel the Suffolk University can lay the groundwork for making these dreams into reality.
“Just one more mile”. These words resonated throughout the confines of my mind, antagonistic to a conscience that only screamed for me to stop. Despite the cold winter air that promised only a world of agony in continuing my endeavor, my conviction to improve my physical endurance for the upcoming wrestling season far outweighed my fear of physical pain. With this conviction, I ran the dreaded sixth mile of my daily workout regimen. Although the strength training derived only from lifting weights at a gym would be ideal in conditioning my body for the wrestling season, gym membership was not so readily available for an individual like me, who came from a modest family of humble socioeconomic background that could not afford such a luxury. In spite
Who I am as a person has a lot to do with my family values. Finding out my top five strengths through StrengthFinder was an eye opener. I’ve never taken a test like that before and it pinpointed my strengths that I do every single day. For me Self-discipline is the good foundation of my success that I have. I will be talking about how discipline helped me out in my academics, how it helped me in my career and how it shaped me as a person.
As a private pilot, I view the world from an ever changing perspective. From cruising at five thousand feet looking down at the twinkling lights of Jones AT&T Stadium, to clipping the grass in the canyons east of Slaton while chasing after the glisten of sunshine on the stream, I appreciate every moment I have in the clouds. In 8th grade my parents purchased a discovery flight for me out of Georgetown Municipal Airport, northeast of Austin, Texas. As soon as the aircraft lifted off the ground my instructor nonchalantly handed me the controls. The pilot and I executed countless loops, rolls, and zero gravity maneuvers. Looking back, I realize just how irresponsible and unsafe this particular pilot was, considering that the instructor was piloting the non-aerobatic Cessna 172. However, without this experience I
My name means “industrious” or “hardworking.” I am determined and meticulous, and although also a procrastinator, I always get things done on time and to the best of my ability. I believe in leading by example, that sometimes the best leaders are the ones who listen more than they speak, that sometimes voicing your own opinion is not that important. I am an ISFJ personality. We are known as “the defenders.” I believe in protecting what you love, and so my family always comes first (most importantly my little sister).
I feel like I get the responsibility theme from working. “Your Responsibility theme forces you to take psychological ownership for anything you commit to, and whether large or
No one ever seems to think of the complication the term “gifted” puts on someone. Being gifted is more than about being a genius or a prodigy; it’s about thinking differently and striving to become better. Some think it’s learning quickly, or being great at any subject, but until you've achieved such label, it isn't like that much at all. Being gifted, I think much differently. I taught myself how to succeed in subjects to better myself. I have always loved math and science. I go around the teacher’s directions, managing to find a different way to multiply, divide, or find the derivative of a function. Normally, it was the hard way, but sometimes I discovered the fastest way to finish a problem. Whether I make it harder or easier on myself, in all subjects I learn differently than others. I have gone through the school system only thinking the most I could accomplish was solving a math problem no one else could or acing a science test. I have truly learned there’s no limits to what I can accomplish. My difference in thinking allowed me to succeed in so many ways and I hope to continue in college and my career to better not only my self, but the life of others.
A time in my life when I attempted to fulfill my dreams or reach a goal was when I tried to achieve getting straight A’s. It all started when I started to want to go play college baseball. I set this goal because I know that I need to get superb grades to get a scholarship for college. Getting excellent grades will help me get into a good college. Achieving this goal was essential, and I was able to accomplish this goal by listening. Listening to the teacher makes getting perfect grades very simple. When I eventually got my 4.0 GPA, it made me feel extremely thrilled. Striving for this goal taught me that I will not ever give up on my goals. Having good grades is important if I want to get into a good college. If I can maintain
