I have loved sports my whole life, even at a very young age. I would watch it with my dad, and he would take me to sports games. I loved to play basketball in the backyard when I was little. I have always loved cheering for my favorite sports team. I love watching the Minnesota Vikings and the Los Angeles Dodgers. Two years ago my dad surprised me with Vikings tickets. I was so happy to get to go to a game. Sports has always been a big part of my life. Two years ago, I got a new view of sports when I started umpiring.

I now know that it is not easy to be an umpire and get all the calls correct. I get a lot of complaints from coaches and have learned to not get angry at them or argue back. Now I know MLB umpires have a tough job and usually get a lot of heat because of the calls they make. Now I know to not argue with professional umpires because their job is hard and they are there for a reason. I have learned to control myself under tough conditions. One time when I was playing I didn’t slide at home and the umpire ejected me. At the time, I thought the umpire was wrong to throw me out, but now I know that rule is there for a reason so nobody gets hurt. I myself probably would have ejected me too. Last year, I was umpiring a game and a kid mouthed off at me and the coach did too so I ejected both of them. Later that week, the coach and the kid apologized, I learned that people say things in the heat of the moment that they don’t really mean. This summer I was umpiring a team from Ventura and they complained about every call that was not good for them. The next day I was umpiring them again and they started cursing at me. This again proves that we sometimes say things in the heat of a moment that we don’t
