In the eyes of others, there are not many accomplishments I am recognized for. It is true that I have allowed many opportunities to pass y without serious consideration.Though I have allowed my unstable living conditions, responsibilities, and emotions hinder my development as a positive contributor in society, I have realized that the only way I can improve my life and meet to the needs of my loved ones is by being independent and successful. I want to focus on my education and on gaining practical career-based experience. My grades have not been extraordinary throughout my high school career because I let myself get distracted. I didn't allocate as much effort towards my education as I did towards my household responsibilities. However,
I have always liked to try to branch out and explore new things. I have always worked my hardest to make friends with people even if they come from a completely different background from me. Throughout my high school years, I have had numerous opportunities to discover new views and cultures. I was able to take advantage of some of these opportunities and develop as a person through them. The plethora of social groups that I have been acquainted with in my lifetime has given me a perspective on life unique from many of my peers.
What differentiates me from other applicants for these programs, is my love of lifelong learning. Ever since I was a kid I have enjoyed reading nonfiction books, seeking to learn as much as possible about my various interests. Over the course of my life I have been fascinated by everything from airplanes, to space travel, to American history, to the history and principles of accounting and taxation. I received a classical education in high school, and chose to apply for and enroll in the Honors College at Appalachian State so I could continue to learn in small, discussion-oriented classes and develop my knowledge of subjects beyond rote memorization.
My interest in studying politics and social policy is grounded in my cross-cultural upbringing and a fascination with how power and conflict shape government decisions. At present, I seek a university course with a rigorous, multidisciplinary approach to these subjects that will prepare me for an eventual career in public service. For this reason, I would like to complete my undergraduate studies in the United Kingdom. As a Spanish national educated in the United States and now attending university in Italy, I have observed how power and politics interact in different cultures.
Between all the jobs in the world, there is nothing I find more rewarding than teaching. Due to volunteer and work experience, not only am I confident that I suit the position, but I know I truly have a passion for it. Travelling long distance to teach allowed me to recognize my devotion towards wanting to help others. When I volunteered in Thailand, I began to understand the concept on how time and money become irrelevant if you are doing something you love.
I’d be willing to attend TexPrep once again to learn. I’d like to use computers in the near future as my job. I’m going to study graphic designing or learn how to code programs. I would also like to learn subjects such as geometry, algebra, and english. All of these subjects can primarily help me throughout high school years.
I come from three main worlds: my physical community, school, and family. I live in Brooklyn, NY and am part of a diverse neighborhood. The part of Brooklyn I live in is particularly poor compared to the area around it. In addition, I come from a low-income, immigrant family. My mother came from Indonesia and my father came from Malaysia.
I would love for the Admissions Committee to reconsider their decision because I feel that if I get accepted to Purdue University, I will be able to give back to the community/campus. My biggest goals for that would be able to join a fraternity and have connections of people in Purdue and commit myself to the fraternity. I would also love to be able to join groups or a club on or about helping one another. I am a person who loves to donate their time for people who need it most. Throughout my high school an some of my college year(s), I have gone to food pantries, food donations, and community work to help the homeless and hungry in downtown Indianapolis.
Since I began my freshman year of high school I knew neonatal nursing was my passion. Knowing this I recognized this was a competitive field and that I needed to do well in high school and also volunteer my time at a local hospital. My freshman and sophomore year I was enrolled in all honors classes maintaining A and B average grades however I began to struggle in my english and social studies classes and eventually realized if I wasn’t taking the higher level classes in that area that I could really focus on what mattered for my future which are my math and science classes, so I made some changes in my schedule and my junior year I excelled in all my classes and had a close to perfect GPA. As well as having a strong focus on my education
My technical skills combined with my experience with educating kids of all ages sets me apart from other candidates. Since I am self-taught and well-versed in many programming languages, I believe I have a deeper understanding of programming. Teaching yourself the languages requires you to understand the fundamentals really well; hence, I have the ability to breakdown the concepts when teaching in the camps. In addition, most candidates that apply I believe have an interest in computer science mainly; however, I have an interest and experience educating students. I have a passion for educating others and sharing the knowledge I have to help open up opportunities in the lives of the students.
After I graduate I am taking the summer off to have some quality time with my family before they help me haul myself up to upper peninsula Michigan. I am going to start college next spring at Lake Superior State University. The plan currently is to get a degree in computer engineering with an emphasis in robotics. While I do that I want to participate in local choirs and dance groups. Once graduated I want to embark on a career that will utilize all of my passions.
My interests in art, design, and technology have led me to a degree in Computer Science with a Digital Arts Concentration and a minor in Studio Art. I went through a few degree changes during my time at the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), but after taking different courses and discussing my options with professors, I had steadily begun steering towards my goal of working in art, design, and technology. My involvement on campus with organizations, TealTV and SIGGRAPH (Special Interest Group on Computer Graphics and Interactive Techniques), courses, and previous internships has not only given me valuable training but has further helped me identify a career where I can work in a blend of all three. Beginning my freshman year
I always wanted to teach; a lot of my family members are professors I really enjoy sharing my experience with others. My background is in fine arts, graphic design, and digital media. I really wanted to be able to share my experience and knowledge with others. Whether it is their first design class or design is their major, It is great to be able to work with those types of students and to see them grow as artists and a lot of them end up choosing design as their profession. It has always been very rewarding to be able to work with students and to help them find out what it is that they are interested in and what they want to do in their life and help them to become professional artists and designers.
I am absolutely fascinated by the subject of neuroscience and psychology. I am extremely excited that Illinois Institute of Technology offers a dual psychology and biology program as I want to be involved in a program that allows equal emphasis on both fields. I am also excited that this program offers computer science which I have had no previous experience in, but am excited to become involved in. I wish to pursue these subjects because I am interested in people and I want to understand how they function mentally so I can help them. I find plasticity, or how the brain is able to adapt, fascinating.
Thank you for the amazing opportunities this past summer! I have improved so many skills that I could not this past year in my normal class. I feel completely comfortable with my stoichiometric calculations and I developed more confidence in my actions in the lab. I made multiple mistakes along the way, but I can say that I learned from each one of them, and it will make me better in future labs. I loved working in the box, and I hope my ligands will be useful in the future.
In year nine I was only 12 years old one of the youngest year 9s in my year level, I attended St Dominics College. At this age I didn’t care about school and mucked around a lot. I thought of myself and what others thought of me, I was shy a lot less confident than what I am at this day in age. In my eyes I cared about others opinions were of me so I didn’t speak up much academically, and that made me not accomplish much.
