The war has been going on for two years now and as we continue to fight we continue to lose our wealth. As southerners we remember a time where everyone knew who was the true king, to the whole world Cotton was King.(Here) Our economy thrives because of cotton, our plantations produced wealth in days. We were kings of this land, then darkness tried to destroy us, the North wanted to take not only our wealth but also our life style. The reality was they were foolish to declare war as senator James Henry Hammond said “No, you dare not make war on cotton. No power on earth dares to make war upon it. Cotton is king.” Once the Civil War broke out everyone was scared but the confederacy was strong. The confederacy placed an informal embargo on cotton.
Who’s fault was it, the colonists, or the lobster backs? Both of them are at fault for several reasons. I believe that it is the British fault when they shoot up the colonists. In Document 4, the picture will show a biased opinion of the soldiers shooting up the colonists. This can be used as a biased opinion because the artist is only showing what bad the British soldier.
President Abraham Lincoln used a certain finesse and zest in issuing this proclamation, and I admire the opportunistic measures he took. He issued it as a war measure during the American Civil War, to all states that were not under control of the Union after the victory at the Battle of Antietam. The main factors were it would free all slaves in the Confederate states and prevent foreign powers from meddling in the issue. It provided a great asset to the Union by allowing blacks to enlist in their army. Lincoln had presented the measure as a military necessity and exempted slaves in the loyal border states, and areas occupied by the Union army.
Introduction:The Civil War started from 1861 to 1865 and it was fought for the long-standing controversy about slavery in the United States. The war concluded with Abraham Lincoln’s victory and the abolish of slaves. It is said that the Confederate states started the war by attacking the union soldiers at Fort Sumter in South Carolina.
In the time period between 1860 through 1877, the national debt percentage soared, the Constitution was put into question, and political power switched in the government. During much of this time period, the US was in a Civil War from 1861 to 1865. The Union was fighting against the Confederates while President Abraham Lincoln did his' best to keep the Union together. The Civil War caused the national debt to sky rocket. The government had to change in order to find a way to gather troops and still have people working in the fields and warehouses to keep the country afloat.
Historians whom debate the origins of the Civil War focus on why the seven Southern states declared their secession from the Union, who then united to form the Confederacy. The Civil War broke out in April of 1861, and it is believed by historians that the war had its origin in the discordant slavery. Once Abraham Lincoln was declared president, he executively ordered the Emancipation Proclamation on January 1st, 1863. This proclamation was designed to change the legal status of more than 3 million enslaved people in areas of the South from slave to free. Lincoln used his first inaugural address to attempt to plea with the Southern states to return to the Union, and he reaffirmed the constitutional issue the he had no constitutional or lawful
After the 1860 election of Abraham LIncoln generated much anger. Several states seceded from the Union. The result, the Southern Confederacy in Charleston, South Carolina, on April 12-14 1861 started the Civil War. Robert E. Lee’s former commander, Winfield Scott, requested his command of the Union Army of men being gathered to stop the rebellion. That very same day Virginia voted to secede from the Union.
The Civil war had profound effects on the U.S and the Confederacy in economic, political, and social. The war had a lot of different effects depending on the region which was divided by the North and the South. Each had similarities and differences in the way they were influenced by the war. In the North anyone can claim up to 160 acres of land. Then after 5 years of living on the land they can buy it for a small fee, The Morrill Land grant 1862 set a public land aside for education, and then the highest tariffs protected the Union's growing industry.
After declaring their independence from the Spanish Empire and (later) the Mexican Empire, the United Provinces of Central America experienced problems in their government. For years, the Assembly had been dissolved three different times and four Presidents were exiled. Despite the chaos, many Central Americans wanted to remain united; however, it wasn't enough to keep people at bay. The civil war began during the Mexican-American War in 1846. [SUBJECTED TO CHANGES] The United States of America saw Central America as an opportunity to invade from the south, causing the Mexican army to move back... The more cotton that was produced, the greater the slave labor. This production had dramatically increased from 1800-1860. While cotton was used long before the Industrial Era, it played a contributing and important role that would lead to the sectionalism of both the North and the South and eventually lead into the Civil War. The hard part however, was during 1791, slaves had to de-seed and clean cotton by hand. This was a difficult process and made cotton almost pointless in being farmed and manufactured in the United States instead of being imported from other countries.
With the decrease in land prices, the value of cotton also dropped by an alarming rate. Before the war even began, the cost of one pound of cotton was $1.25, but at the end of the war, the price for each pound was only $0.20, about one-sixth of what it used to be. Since cotton is king in the south, and without it there is nothing, the decrease in prices of cotton caused much of the economy to collapse. Their reliance on cotton as the major cash crop, and little focus on anything else, made it really hard to create a profit with the small amount of goods that had not been affected in price.
In the mid-1800s, North and South of the United States started a war with each other known as the Civil War. It all began with the attack on Fort Sumter on April 12th 1861. It was the bloodiest and saddest war in American history. The tension between the North and the South started to grow rapidly because their unity was replaced by sectionalism. The South slowly started to secede from the Union because of numerous reasons such as slavery and Abraham Lincoln.
Before the Civil War era, the Federal Government was conjoined to be known as the Union. The Union consisted of twenty Free states and five Border States but all history comes to an end at one point. A year later the Union broke apart bringing in the Civil War due to important causes as well. These causes would be weak presidential leadership, the Dredd Scott decision, the Kansas- Nebraska Act and slavery. While all played an important, three successfully cause the union to break apart.
There is much debate about what the real cause of the Civil War really was. Some historians, like Allan Nevins, argue that sectional differences between the North and South caused a split in beliefs regarding state’s rights economically and politically. Although there were issues and debates over states rights before and during the Civil war, the main cause of the Civil War was the issue of slavery. Other historians, such as Henry Wilson and James Ford Rhodes, argue that the enslavement of African-Americans was the most accurate cause of the Civil War.
“War at its best, is terrible, and this war of ours, in its magnitude and in its duration, is one of the most terrible.” These words from a speech that President Lincoln delivered sum up the effects of the Civil War for the entire nation. This war was unlike any other that the young nation had yet seen because previous wars were fought against rival countries but this war was caused by a country tearing itself apart. The two major factors that sparked the beginning of the Civil War are slavery and states’ rights but President Lincoln’s election also helped to complicate the already troublesome pre-war events. While slavery may not have contributed to the war as much as states’ rights, it did determine which side of the war each state was on
The Civil War was a disaster in so many different ways. The War was the bloodiest war in the history of America. Also, the idea of fighting your family members or friends is a gruesome thought to think about at the time. The goal of the South in the war was to defend their base and keep the North out. The job of the North was the total opposite because the soldiers had to intrude there area because they were the ones that were trying to keep the South from Seceding.
