In the time period between 1860 through 1877, the national debt percentage soared, the Constitution was put into question, and political power switched in the government. During much of this time period, the US was in a Civil War from 1861 to 1865. The Union was fighting against the Confederates while President Abraham Lincoln did his' best to keep the Union together. The Civil War caused the national debt to sky rocket. The government had to change in order to find a way to gather troops and still have people working in the fields and warehouses to keep the country afloat. The federal government did continue enforcing laws and having people pay large amounts of taxes in the Union. From 1866 through 1870 many the Confederate states rejoined
Essay The Revolution had resulted in earnings of a fine land that is known as United States of America, and would continue to progress from the original 13 colonies in to the 50 states that is known today. Over the progress of almost 200 year, in the textbook, the many examples provided show the evolution of America from where it had expanded from the East to the the West territories. Many excellent examples of America's expansions could include the Lewis and Clark expedition or the settlement in California due to the Gold Rush. However, as America continued to expand into the country that it is today, there were several road bumps. Case in point would be the fight between the North and South which would lead into the Civil War.
join hands in building the union. Although there was some opposition to slavery in the country, the government was willing to concede everything the South wanted regarding slavery to keep it in the Union. Given all these facts, the idea that the South seceded to protect slavery is as absurd as the idea that Lincoln fought the war to end slavery. Lincoln himself said in a famous letter after the war began that his sole purpose was to save the Union, and not to either save or end slavery; that if he could save the Union without freeing a single slave, he would. Nothing could be clearer.
In 1861 through 1865 the Civil War was fought to determine what kind of nation the United States of America was going to be. It was started due to the difference between the free northern states and the slave southern states. When Abraham Lincoln, a Republican, became president he pledged to end slavery in all states. This caused seven of the southern slave states to succeed from the United States and form a new nation called the Confederate States of America. This action triggered a war between the northern states and the southern states known as the American Civil War.
The Civil War was seen to come in several events and disputes, but the Kansas-Nebraska Act really set the mark. The Act allowed people to vote whether or not they wanted slavery in the new territory, thus creating even more conflict and arguments about the subject. The Act resulted in the North and South becoming infuriated with each other, as if they weren't really before, for the majority of the North was against slavery since the beginning. After all the disagreements, the southern states seceded from the Union. Nevertheless, the Civil War became inevitable in order to resolve these issues.
The Civil War was a conflict in the United States during the 19th century that was fought between the Union and the Confederate Army. The conflict was related to the topic of slavery; the Union tried to end it while the Confederacy tried to preserve it. Ultimately, the Union was successful in winning the war, and the abrogation of slavery was the most significant outcome. However, there were certain events and abolitionists who contributed to the cause. One example would be John Brown.
During the mid-1800’s, the United States at that point could no longer find room to compromise on their views, and the secession of the South from the North showed the beginning of the Civil War. Both sides believed they were fighting for what was right: the Union for the equality and the Confederacy for the liberty of states’ rights. As there was virtually no room for compromise whatsoever, both sides perceived the other as trying to do what would work out to have the higher benefit for them. The sides both generally felt that the war was needed, but the Union felt that the war was a barrier in the growth of the country as a whole and the division was not how the country should stand.

In the election of 1860, Abraham Lincoln was elected president and the fate of the American government and lives of African Americans were in his hands.

The American Civil War (1861-1865) is known as one of the most climactic historical periods of the United States and is the turning point in which the U.S. abandons the traditional eastern values of oppression from whites completely and becomes the revolutionary free and inclusive nation it is known to be today. The U.S. ended its centuries old economic based system of slavery as a wave of Republicans from the North fought to liberate the Africans it oppressed. This change however, did not come easily, and the Civil War claimed 620,000 American soldier deaths between both sides: the Union and Confederacy. The causes of these enormous casualties and the Civil War were due to the stubbornness of the Confederate South, the election of President
A success of a nation is often determined by the decisions made by the political leaders in charge of each respective country. The Civil War may not have been successful without the leadership of President Lincoln. James McPherson, an expert on Abraham Lincoln and the Civil War concluded that “Lincoln’s superb leadership, strategy, and sense of timing as President determined the pace of the revolution and ensured its success” (42). Lincoln believed that the abolition of slavery was necessary to save the union (41). He stated that slavery could not be accepted on a moral ground and concluded, “if slavery is not wrong, nothing is wrong” (Lincoln).
The civil war During the civil war, northern states and southern states were fighting to gain control over one another. The Northern states were fighting to abolish slavery, and the Southern states on the other hand, were fighting to keep slavery. Abraham Lincoln was the president during this moment in time, and he played a huge part in the outcome in the war.
Many major groups of the civil war had different opinions about the slavery issue. Slaveholders, slaves, Northerners, and abolitionists all had different opinions about the subject. For example, the slaveholders felt as if they were doing nothing wrong. The slaves thought there was nothing else out there for them because they had been born and raised there. During Harriet Tubman’s interview, she stated, “I could've saved more if I convinced them they were slaves.” Emotionally, all the slave holders had different opinions on their slaves. Harriet Tubman’s interview stated that some slave holders had been scared that the slaves would rebel. The slaves did not get paid for their work, they had a one time fee, and they did not receive that money.
The main cause of the civil war was the morality of slavery. The morality of slavery divided the country and caused states to succeed in the union. The south argued that it was moral and they had good lives while freed slaves. The North argued it was wrong and cruel. Slavery isn’t moral and it caused the civil war.
