Character Analysis Of Atticus In Harper Lee's 'To Kill A Mockingbird'

One central character in Atticus is Atticus Cody. Atticus is a sixty-seven year old white male with blue eyes. He always talked pleasantly with everybody and cares dearly for his family. He hopes for the best of Scott, one of the two sons he has and wishes that he stays happy. All Atticus wanted was for Scott to be happy and know he was loved by him.

Everybody in this world, has at one point been nice to somebody. Some people show this trait in daily life and there is one character in particular shows this trait and many other. That character is Atticus in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Atticus demonstrates all the pillars but in particular 3 main pillars. Those pillars are kindness, respect, and honesty and all three of those pillars will be explained in detail and how atticus shows all those pillars.

Throughout Harper Lee’s novel To Kill a Mockingbird, it seems as if Atticus Finch is a failure as both a parent and a lawyer. However, somebody with a good understanding of the novel will realise that Atticus is in fact a terrific lawyer and a superb father. However, like all people, Atticus has his flaws.

In the book To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus refuses to racism as the usual Maycomb disease. Atticus made his opinion clear when he told Uncle Jack about the Maycomb disease. In page 100 of the book Atticus addresses his concern,“why reasonable people go stark raving mad when anything involving a Negro comes up, is something I don't pretend to understand ” (Lee ). The usual Maycomb disease is racism and discrimination, Atticus is becoming concerned about Scout because she keeps saying the n-word instead of negro. Atticus also states that he has no idea why everyone goes mad in the head when a negro is involved.

In the novel To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee many characters are delineated and each expresses in their own ways emotion into the story. The one character that was the most compelling to me was Atticus. He was the character that had the most courage and strength in all the events that he had been involved with. His children, Jem and Scout, watched him as he attempted to defend an African American man who was accused of rape. Atticus therefore had shown great strength, power, courage and great care for those around which then made him the character that stood out the most to me.

They help you decide whether your decision is ethical or not. Atticus has a series of codes and values. Not only does he live by them, but he tries to teach them to Jem and Scout at the same time.

Atticus is a good man with a strong set of morals. We must do away with the idea that Atticus is racist based on the writing in Go Set a Watchman because, despite being the sequel to this book, Harper Lee wrote it before hand and based it on her father earlier in her life. However, that book was never intended to be published and the way Atticus is portrayed in To Kill a Mockingbird is the only form that was meant for the public eye, meaning that the morals and actions that Harper Lee wanted to be show were those from To Kill a Mockingbird, the other story’s Atticus is basically an entirely different character sharing only a name. This idea is reinforced in To Kill a Mockingbird by his constant reminder to his children to avoid using hateful racial slang and the fact he fights for Tom

In To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, Atticus is a role model for his children and a paragon of justice and virtue in Maycomb society. Atticus has the character traits of being respectful, brave, and persistent which motivate Atticus and his desire to see justice done but also drives his goal to be a respectable father to Scout and Jem. In the same way, a warrior is respectful, respecting both their enemies and their leaders. They are also brave as they put themselves in danger for what they believe is right and are persistent as they continue to fight even though the odds are stacked against them.

His emotions never get the better of him, and he is always calm and collected. He is kind and pleasant to everyone, no matter how they treat him. He loves his children a lot, and raises them to the best of his ability, even though people criticize him for raising them the way he is. Because of all the reading Atticus does, he is very knowledgeable, and although he is definitely one of the smartest people in the town, he never brags and always stays humble. Atticus has numerous admirable qualities; he is loving, amiable, and humble.

An example of taking a stand would be if a lot of people are treating a person wrong and someone decides not to and sticks up for that person. Atticus Finch is a character in the book To Kill a Mockingbird. Even though Atticus knows he does not have a shot of winning Tom Robinson’s case, he still does it anyway because it is the right thing to do, and he is trying to make a good example for his children. It makes sense for Atticus to take the case.

The Lord God is the supreme being in the story where he has absolute power and expects obedience from his creatures or subjects. The Lord God created the universe, the earth, the land, the seas, plants, and all living creatures. The Lord God also created Adam and Eve and placed them in Eden, which was a beautiful land with beautiful creatures, fresh water and many edible fruit trees. The Lord God had only one rule, he instructed them not eat the fruit from the tree of knowledge. Sadly, Adam and Eve couldn 't obey the only rule in Eden and were punished. However, Adams and Eves disobedience came with a harsh punishment for each.

In Harper Lee’s To Kill A Mockingbird, Atticus Finch is represented as the stereotypical, all well-knowing fatherly figure to Jem and Scout, and more than oftenly teaches them moral lessons and how to behave as they are transitioning into young adulthood.  Three values that Atticus Finch heavily instills within his children is to live humbly, swear by equality, and have respect for everyone no matter what color your skin is or what you believe in.  These values shape and mold each Jem and Scout into independently minded children who learn wrong from right as the book’s plotline continues.
