Another reason screen time needs to be limited is because it can cause lack of sleep. Too much screen time can cause children to stay up way past their bedtime, to cause lack of sleep. Per the Kids Matter website, “engaging the brain with exciting or provocative information before bed may trigger emotional and hormonal responses.” Those responses will cause teens and tweens to have trouble falling asleep. Also, National Sleep Foundation’s 2014 Sleep in America Poll states that 58% of teens are sleeping less than 7 hours a night! Well, believe it or not, screen time causes eye problems. If people look at a screen for too long, their eyes can get eye strains, which can lead to “eye irritation, dryness,fatigue or blurred vision.” Also, many people who have an eye problems already, have a higher chance of getting eye strains, due to screens. According to CBS News,“34 million Americans have myopia, projected to reach 40 million by 2030.” Screen time is causing myopia, an eye problem, to increase! It is important that people should limit screen time for tweens and teens because these issues can cause drawbacks, such as doing bad in school. To prevent this difficulty, screen time should be limited for teens and tweens. Even so some opponents believe that eye complications aren’t caused by screen time, they absolutely can and it’s not good. Therefore, I believe these people with differing opinions are wrong. In conclusion, it is very evident that screen time needs to be limited for the fact that it can cause obesity, lack of sleep, and eye problems. Can you imagine how bad our future generation will be if screen time does not get limited?
